Seems to me like they are still a 1.5 team studio rather than a 2 team studio judging by Naughty Dog's comments themselves. They have a smaller crew that works on rough concepts & designs for the next project so the full team can transition over smoothly. I'm sure they have a fair few people working on whatever their next title is but development wouldn't kick into high gear until UC4 is finished. Pretty great system, it's definitely working out for them!
Most definitely Visceral's third person for me personally. The combination of a developer who created one of my favorite new ip's from last gen (Dead Space) & the writer of my absolute favorite ip from last gen (Uncharted) in the Star Wars universe just eclipses Battlefront completely for me. I'm sure Battlefront will be great but I'm uninterested in traditional mp fare so half (or more) of the resources will be spent on something I'll completely ignore.
Well this guy has taken a critical look at the preview builds, but I do agree that an opinion can't be formed on that alone. I think it's definitely more legitimate to call it innovative than it is to call it generic at this point though because at the very least the devs have explained some innovative graphics techniques, like their shaders & anti-aliasing tech & other pieces built from the ground up for this game. Also, there is the branching qte system which is something th...
Not sure all of these games are showing up on Xbox eventually though. Some of the bigger titles seem to be making their way over, but the sheer volume of indies released on the PS4 means that there are plenty that obviously aren't releasing, any one of which could potentially be an xbox gamers favorite game of all time. I would understand if there were any pros to the system to take into consideration, but I haven't heard a single one. I've heard Phil Spencer say that it's in ...
Totally agree...my absolute favorite aspect of the Uncharted series are the varied environments & locales you get to visit in the span of a single title. To be able to go from London to the Himalayas to the Rub al Khalil desert & back to a tropical jungle island off the coast of Madagascar is so compelling to me. Open world games simply lack the variety & storytelling potential that more linear level based titles present. Open worlds are fun as sandboxes to play around in for sure...
You make some valid points but you've overlooked the most important factor behind all of this. Microsoft should be contacting these quality indie studios themselves & actively searching for these games. The fact that Sony went to the studio & MS didn't only illustrates the idea that MS aren't searching for the best games available for their indie content, they are just letting developers come to them or funneling all of their attention & funds into a select few like Ca...
It seems to me the only issue w/ turning Bloodborne into a franchise will lay w/ who they'd get to develop future installments. Like Demon's Souls, From would probably move onto a multiplat for their next title & would presumably take Miyazaki w/ them, and considering he's the key to this game being so desirable, it'd be tough to hand it over to anyone else. The Order meanwhile seems poised to be a franchise as RAD are in house devs. I'd go w/ The Order as a franchise ...
No I believe Insomniac has had a team working on the R&C reboot for a bit now, you might be thinking of their statement referring to publicity, when people were asking why they hadn't seen anything from the game they said they were focusing on getting the word out about SSOD before moving on to publicizing R&C. The movie is coming this year so they will most likely want the game to coincide as closely as possible to that.
I'm thinking MS are going to try to steal some of Sony's thunder after PSX. I know Spencer said originally that there would be no Xbox games announcements at the Windows event, but Capcom mentioned a big announcement this month & it seems to be their style to utilize conferences like these over just dropping announcements as a one off. Maybe another 3rd party exclusive for Xbox?
I don't think there have been many solid "game of the year" single titles. To me, if a game is mentioned in the majority of lists, then its a game of the year. Every outlet will have their opinions & favorites as tastes always vary. I've never seen a site or outlet actually tally up every sites game of the year to determine a winner, metacritic style, because ultimately its kinda pointless. Will UC4 be game of the year? Definitely. So will Bloodborne, Arkham Knight, MGS5...
I haven't listened to the podcast in question, but the people replying need to understand that the "potential" line was added by the writer of the article...not sure if Lobb himself actually said potential or not but either way that hyperbole is just way too high. Its one thing to call a game this far from release great, much less game of the year potential, & even less game of the generation potential. "Game of All Time" is just ludicrous, and no I haven't tri...
A few of the developers of the game have said on twitter that it'll be a 10-12+ hour campaign. I'm guessing that is a time for a straight run through & it most likely doesn't take into account all of the times that you'll just be staring in slack jawed awe at the stunning scenery. I'm personally really excited for the game, the criticisms hold little weight for my personal preferences so as long as the story is right & they truly live up to that whole Uncharted 2 i...
The main & only reason I could see Arkham Knight disappointing is story related. I assumed that WB Montreal dropped Dini because he was working on Arkham Knight but apparently that's not the case. The stories for Asylum & City were so great because they were written by someone who has a vast knowledge on the character & his universe. Dini has been writing Batman stories for decades, losing him to an inhouse team at Rocksteady is a true blow to the series. Stories matter in gam...
@Foxtrot
Both of those theories could definitely pan out. Might be that she was holding back anything on his brother for her own motives (like possibly he was actually in her employ behind the scenes), or like you mention he's not actually his brother. I'm thinking they are blood relatives though, the resemblance in looks & the similar tone of voice that they share would point in that direction. At the end of the day I don't really feel that its a big enough p...
I'm really interested to see how it unfolds too. We've never met a single character actually in Drake's bloodline & the whole point of a character like Sully was to show that Drake could make his own family when all else fails. Introducing an actual blood kinship & then potentially destroying it would only strengthen his bond w/ characters like Sully, Elena, Chloe & Cutter. It really is the perfect story for the universe & where it naturally should've went. I...
We still don't know what the timelines are, or what Sam's motivations may be. We saw them acting chummy in the PSX demo but that could either be an act or it can be taken from a different point in time.
As far as Stashwick's involvement & his exodus in particular, in that video GI released yesterday Druckman pointed to the reason for the shakeup being more involved w/ the direction being off & the worlds being too open in particular. In that instance I'...
Totally agree w/ both of your points. I'm not sure the Order will review well regardless of how great it is because too many "journalists" have already shot it completely down, & the more close minded users will go into the game w/ their opinions coloured quite a bit. It will definitely be a cult classic though, I'd say even if the previews are true the game still has a market of fans looking for exactly the kind of game RAD are making, the kind of game that is becoming ...
"Surpass" is a pretty subjective term, but even then I highly doubt that x1 is going to have some crazy significant boost that defies the hardware & turns this generation on its head where the boost won't be "anything close" to the same boost that Sony would get. x1 & ps4 will always be fairly similar in terms of performance, no magic sdk will change that and definitely not w/in the next 6 months. Its on the devs to utilize their systems to the best of their ab...
I love all of these people saying "I own all systems so I'm unbiased". Thats like saying people can't be racist against their own race. Everyone has a bit of a bias from time to time, its when people can simply not accept that there are great qualities & games for all systems that their bias is only hurting themselves, and they can't cry when they are called out for it. I think Xbox had a great year but so did the PS4, no one can definitively try to prove why one con...
Considering Google just put Glass out to pasture, I'd say MS are sweating a bit based on the funds they must've pumped into this thing. Ultimately it'll only be used in homes, in which case, why not go the full VR route, or at least have VR in addition to the AR present. Could be cool but it's not grabbing me the way Oculus & Morpheus potentially could.
