If that truly is the case, why not do away w/ it altogether? Regardless of stray cases here & there of MS breaking their policy, most devs would (rightly) automatically assume that it would be a hassle to deal w/ so why even bother? Beyond the fact that it is a true barrier to entry into the Xbox ecosystem, its a bit inflammatory in that it assumes that devs should come to MS hat in hand and beg to give them a chance. The most talented of devs shouldn't have to ask to be on a platform...

I don't know if this one will pan out this way...seems pretty clear that this is pertaining to services or a "new initiative" since that's exactly what they mention in the writeup. No mentions of megatons or game reveals of any sort. Sounds to me like its just an appreciation type deal that will be very fun to the lucky few in attendance, but not meant to be some kind of public expo. The new initiative talk sounds interesting but I'm not even sure if it'll be dealing...

Even beyond her, her whole supporting cast was all subpar. They really didn't nail any good character moments in that whole game, aside from one or two stray bits. It was definitely fun to play but the story kind of felt like an afterthought in my opinion. Stories are important in any creative medium, no matter how much focus is put on it. Look at a game like Journey, there was no dialogue whatsoever & yet they still made the story impactful & still made you feel for characters w/...

Yes, haven't heard many people point this out often enough. Everything else about the game is sounding great to me, but losing Paul Dini was a tremendous blow. I don't think people realize how important his writing was to this series, but Arkham Origins illustrates it. As the first entry sans Dini, it was just largely forgettable in my opinion...it played decently enough, aside from the bugs & glitches, but it just wasn't nearly as memorable as Rocksteady's entries. Losing...

I totally agree...it's not like music critics will bash a song because it features a "generic acoustic guitar" or because it has "another 'c' chord" "they didn't create a new musical note so we are a bit leery at this point". A good song is a good song, just like a good game is a good game, they can remind you of other good games w/o negating your experience w/ that particular one. I'm personally looking forward to the game so I could care les...

You make a good point. It'll be interesting to see what previews say when the new Gears of War doesn't change the formula up that drastically. Since it'll be the first next gen incarnation, will that mean that previewers will call it an "Order clone"?

I personally don't care how the world reacts at this point, as long as it sells enough copies to ensure a future for the franchise if it turns out as good as it looks to me. All of the bashing towards ...

Yeah I think it'll still sell well, but judging not only by MCC but also the quick dropoff of the mp community for Halo 4 it sounds like stagnation & indifference is starting to settle in. That's what happens when games are milked for all they're worth...Say what you will about Sony putting out another Uncharted but going by recent comments from an ex-Santa Monica staffer, it sounds like Sony has been careful not to just push an Uncharted title out for fear of people getting b...

Insomniac doing the reboot would be great but Ted Price has said they are kinda finished w/ that world, and Sony might want to keep the franchise in house...Hell I'd like to see Sony create another new first party dev & hand it off to them. That'd be a great franchise to prove talent off of, it's not so big to where a failure would be massive & it's not so small to where you wouldn't get many eyes on it if ends up great.

@memots

I totally agree, Uncharted 2 was the game that singlehandedly got me back into gaming after kinda ignoring it for about a decade. I really haven't played anything that has bested it in terms of just being nonstop quality from start to finish.

Now that you recommend Shadow of Mordor I think I'm gonna have to grab that one. Seems like we have similar tastes & I've always thought it looked like it played great but the story aspect was the...

I have a feeling it will as well. Games Journalism has already picked it as its whipping boy for being an example of games that "aren't next gen enough" so it will only follow that no matter how great the game may be, it will be considered a relic of the past. By that logic though I assume no one can ever again say that Ocarina of Time is currently a great game or even worthy of playing because it no longer innovates when stacked up to games currently available. A quality game i...

Seems to me that DX12 & the Azure Cloud is being downplayed because it has yet to be proven. Sure there are fanboys who don't want to hear anything positive about their competition, but it's generalizing to say that's all there is. I'm personally skeptical about anything a company says until it has been proven…show us, don't tell us. DX12 will definitely help the Xbox One, but to expect some mind-blowing difference is setting yourself up for disappointment. Also, we se...

A fanboy is someone who ignores facts to support their biased arguments in favor of their preferences. The facts are that no one has played more than around a half hour of The Order, which is being reported as being a 10-12 hour game. No one can actually say w/ any degree of certainty that The Order is "gonna suck" based off of that small time frame. That's around the same amount of time that previewers had w/ Colonial Marines before coming back w/ glowing praise & we know h...

Keep hearing people bolt that "on rails" criticism to The Order, even some of these more respectable sites. Do none of these people actually know the meaning of the term? There's not really any such thing as "slightly on rails", you either allow player movement or you don't, there are no varying degrees to it. Dead Space Extraction was 'On rails', The Order is anything but.

If Ubisoft has any sense then The Division would most likely be delayed into 2016 as well. Even if it was finished tomorrow, they should go into some HEAVY QA testing to make up for what they pulled w/ Unity. There are others that I personally think might see a delay like Quantum Break. Remedy took around 5 years from announcement to release for Alan Wake & considering QB looks even more involved & unique in its gameplay mechanics & live action story interplay, I could see Remedy ...

I have to agree…the only open world games w/ solid storytelling that I can recall were Red Dead Redemption & aspects of Infamous. Everything else was fun & a quick way to waste a few hours completing tasks & collecting objects, but narratives always suffer in open worlds. Some people bemoan having stories at all and say that its all about the gameplay but I feel like gaming was always driving towards a future where a great story could be told while still having tight, fun & ex...

Not sure we can judge MS giving Windows 10 away as a selfless act at this juncture. We aren't privy to the details, but no company would do that w/o some kind of ulterior motive. Maybe they are aiming for some targeted ad revenue, or some tracking features in Windows 10 that businesses will pay to get access to. There are many potentialities for MS to make money even while giving away this OS, and if you don't think that at least some of those are in play then I don't think you kn...

This was my favorite little nugget of "wisdom" from the article:

"Unfortunately, it’s hardly a story nowadays if drama and conflict are not present."

Apparently the author doesn't know what a "story" even is. Yeah, it's not much of a stretch to assume that The Order's story has a conflict in it, but then again, it's not a stretch to say every story ever written has some form of "conflict". I'm surpri...

Totally agree...as far as gaming purposes, how useful can AR be beyond the initial cool factor? How many levels of Halo or Minecraft can someone really play in the same exact living room? I'll reserve judgment until I've actually gone hands on w/ something like this, but I just see a lot more gaming potential in VR.

Yeah that Rolling Stone analogy doesn't really work, because they never really mention worst case scenarios for projects because they know its a futile cause. Journalists and their wacky "predictions" are pretty rare in media coverage. Typically a previewer would talk about the potential goal of a piece or its potential strengths by looking at the only solid source it has: History. Look at Naughty Dog's history of solid & stable games and you see no cause for concern. Lo...

You are in for a true treat if UC4 will be your first Uncharted...the game really plays unlike anything else out there, something about it just feels so smooth & intuitive, the environments are jaw droppingly gorgeous & the story is second to none in the gaming industry. You probably won't have to play the first 3 to enjoy the new one, but hopefully they push out a collection before UC4 releases because I'd highly recommend any gamer play them. I've beat them all an unheal...
