No comments from the ppl who believe that the Wii doesn't sell software because of its "casual" audience? Like clockwork...

Anyway, glad to see all attach rates in a healthy range, especially the PSP's. I admit that I assumed the PSP's attach rate to be fairly low considering that pirating PSP games is fairly common, so this is good news.

For someone who refuses to acknowledge the importance of Wii sales in the gaming industry or any positive aspect of the Wii for that matter, it comes as no surprise that you would condescendingly label someone who spends more time playing the Wii than the PS3 a "really part time casual gamer" simply because of your inability to fathom such a possibility. You admit that the Wii is a very different console, yet your only explanation for why someone would play it more than their other...

I can live with that =)

True. That being said, who would be more of a sucker: The person who risks discovering a game he or she likes by not trying it just because someone else or a review says it's a bad game, or the person who buys a game completely oblivious to what others say and yet truly enjoys playing it?

I wouldn't necessarily call them "low" standards, but rather "different" standards. I don't doubt that some PS2-owning parents who normally bought games that we here at N4G would deem to be "casual" saw Okami and bought it for their kids because the boxart looked like a cartoon. These parents likely would not have known about Okami's greatness in this situation, but helped sales nonetheless.

Ppl who don't game much are likely to see a shelf full of...

Alternatively, Okami on PS2 asks, "Why do good PS2 games sell so bad?"

I thought $90 was fairly steep, and then I realized that the balance board is far more technologically advanced and has more potential usability in future games than the Les Paul + GH3 that I bought for the same amount of dough.

Agreed. Most ppl on N4G conveniently forget that the PS1 and PS2 had loads of shovelware and act like it's a Wii-only phenomena.

DS continues to make a killing despite the predominant "PSP > DS" sentiment on this site.

"an object, often a small representation of something familiar, as an animal or person, for children or others to play with; plaything."

It's just as easy to argue that consoles in general are toys because they are used to "play" games. This is why gaming has been stereotyped as being a children's hobby for so long.

I always felt that avid gamers turned their backs on Nintendo during the N64-PS1-Saturn era when the PS1 put Sony on the map. I gamed a lot back then, and I know I myself turned my back on Nintendo. So like Brainiac, the last Nintendo console I owned before purchasing the Wii was a SNES, and I play the Wii almost on a daily basis.

Perhaps no one told you that wrist-flicks are sufficient most of the time because they enjoy watching you wave the Wii remote around in that fashion?

I agree that the comparison obviously seems one-sided, but I don't think we can be sure exactly knowing that the 3.2Ghz CPU in other consoles has other more difficult tasks to handle concurrently such as rendering in 1080 vs 480p (we don't know exactly how much work is off-loaded from these CPUs by their respective GPUs in rendering these high resolutions). Obviously, it's difficult to make a comparison if a game running on a 700Mhz CPU uses 90% of its cycles to handle physics whereas an ent...

Remind me again as to what claim I made that apparently makes "zero logical sense"?

I would like to think that devs know the full capabilities of the Wii, but the fact that a lot of Wii games aren't up to par graphically w/ some GC titles despite the Wii's superior hardware to that of the GC, the fact that Factor 5 (who managed to create some of the best graphics ever on the GC) is completely disappointed in other dev studios' inability to create great graphics and have...

You ignored R&D costs and all costs associated w/ everything that differentiates the Wii from its predecessor. It is easy to feel ripped-off by a console that has amassed profit for each unit sold from day one (which is how it always was before Sony/MS came into the industry AFAIK) when its competitors are a bit over-developed and consequently over-priced to the point of being sold at a loss at the beginning.

Judging from most of the comments posted on this site, I feel like a little bump in hardware specs would do little to stop the "hardcore" from deriding the Wii for its "inferior" hardware. A lot of "hardcore" gamers obsess over hardware specs to the point of writing off a console just because it doesn't have top-of-the-line hardware, so perhaps Nintendo has realized this and has chosen not to "waste" resources trying endlessly to cater to this demograp...

So if the Wii had similar specs to the PS3 and 360, you'd still view its motion controls as a negative characteristic without any consideration as to what the possibilities of such a control scheme / hardware combination could offer as an advancement to the gaming genre, or even to what possibilities the control scheme alone could offer?

I normally don't give ppl the time of day who resort to calling consoles played-out names like "gamecube 1.5", but you may be the 1st ...

The Wii definitely has a higher percentage of "short spurts of entertainment" games than the PS3 or 360, which I think is where the full GC game compatibility and VC comes into play for some. Okami's release on the platform helps, as have some of the recent RPG releases, but I think most of the future WiiWare titles will provide more "short spurts of entertainment". Granted, for me personally this is a good thing since I don't really game for hours on end. I can definit...

Just because a particular platform has faster hardware does not mean the hardware's been fully exploited. The POTENTIAL for better physics is there, and that's it.

Considering that Wii hardware shares a lot of similarities w/ GC hardware, I don't see why devs w/ years of GC-development experience wouldn't be able to write excellent physics algorithms for the Wii.

Anyway, this statement was made most likely for hype-building purposes.
