Ever thought about the roots of the Xbox controller?

Microsoft wanted the Xbox controller to be the best controller on the market. So what they did was considered that the most popular console at the time was the PS2 and people were used to the PS2 controller layout, but since copying that that would directly infringe on the copyright of the PS2 controller they just swapped the left stick and the D-pad round.

The 360 controller is in essence a mutated PS controle...

Good luck getting that comparison to stick. The main difference is you're not confined to a plane in Warhawk and it's much more of an all round team game, ground/air/bases/flags/teamwor k. Whereas with Ace Combat you're up in the sky and dogfight all day long. Btw I do like Ace Combat, I do own some of the games in the series.

Warhawk is better than Ace Combat. Warhawk is actually one of the best online team games I've played since I got out of the CS:S grip last year. It's got...

I don't think Incrim was being biased, just saying it how he sees it. He wasn't attacking the PS3 for lacking the features, just saying the 360 already has them.

As a PS3 guy myself I completely understand that those with a 360 can already use their own music in-game and also message ppl in-game. I think Sony have been playing it by ear for the most part, listening out for the consumers to start asking for things like an in-game XMB. I say 'for the most part' because things lik...

This is such a childish claim from the HD-DVD camp.

They hear that Blu-Ray discs are 50GB DL, so they add 1Gb and say it's better lol, that's like a playground competition, pathetic.

No emotion engine there. That's what I have and although people are complaining about BC with the 80GB model, the PAL 60GB is exactly the same as the 80GB in terms of BC, I think we should be moving away from PS2 games on the PS3 and push deeper into this new gen.

The Emotion Engine was there to ease the transition as there weren't really any PS3 games out at launch. The PS3 games are coming now, so we'll see a slow move away from PS2 games with the firmware updates. I know a ...

You're not far off though. A 120GB model for Europe was discussed earlier this year. It'll probably be the same price as the 60GB model is now but with twice the space. That's if it becomes a reality.

Then again if you own a PS3 you don't have to worry about space as you can just fit a new HDD. I will be upgrading at some point next year, 120GB drive is plenty. I have a 250GB external drive in case I run out, I'll just move all my vids onto that to save space and then stream it...

The name of the 360 isn't cool. I'll explain why in 3 stages. The 1st stage is the non-gaming perception, the 2nd stage is the name linking to function and the 3rd stage is the name linking to marketing and general 'catchyness'.

First of all the general non-gaming perception:
Go around talking about the Xbox 360 and you're labelled a geek straight off just because it sounds like such a stereotypical geek name. I've seen so many TV shows where the console is called something ...

...has always been the true football game. It plays much more realistically than Fifa. I moved away from Fifa two years ago and have never regretted it. It's PES for me each year now. I always download the patches for the licensing so that's never a problem and then PES is just perfect.

PES is gameplay. FIFA is visuals.

Didn't know this was definately coming in 2009 tbh but there ya go. As for the actor, good choice.

At the moment however, I don't know if I'm looking forward to MGS or worried about it turning into a disaster.

Movies made from games have to be altered in order for them to work as a movie. I remember people talking about a C&C3 movie shortly after its release and that just wouldn't work. However, MGS has what's required for a great movie, the deep character b...

COD4 has already been informally crowned best console FPS to-date. I'm looking forward to COD4. I'm not really into the WWII field of games so Modern Warfare has my attention.

As for Halo, it never interested me. Sci-Fi is my fav genre, but Halo has the most stereotypical Sci-Fi story whereby the lead character being seen as some super-soldier-type figure destined to save the world from destruction. I passed on it and look forward to a Sci-Fi game that throws away the Sci-Fi H...

At E3 it was announced that Sony and Midway made a deal over UT3 for it to be a timed exclusive and also that Midway would optimise the Unreal Engine for the PS3 to enable future games to be produced quicker by developers using the UE as it would have already been optimised.

That's what went down around E3 and that's still the case today as Rein said himself and has clarified on a few occasions up to now that UT3 will be released on the PS3 and PC first, the 360 version has not...

That was just embarrasing lol. Maybe you should have considered the context of Shysun's Warhawk comment before you replied rather than just seeing 'Warhawk' are reacting.

This title pretty much sums up the review system, if a game sounds good it gets a good score.

No game is reviewed for what it is since it's reviewed by humans, I know that sounds odd but we're all influenced either consciously or subconsciously by the thing around us and hype is a major influence for reviewers. A game is reviewed based on what other games are out at the time and that's not a review it's a comparison.

I no longer read the review mags, nor do I tak...

The reviewers are talking about possible scores before it's even been played. That's a big problem because that means they're reviewing hype rather than the game. If a game doesn't get much hype you can guarantee it'll get lower than an 8. Take Warhawk for example, the best MP game out and the most addictive MP game I've ever played, yet what does it get? 8's and 9's, does the lack of SP influence this? If so, those games that lack MP should be scored down also...

lol, Mart could put a negative spin on anything PS3 even if all it's games were 10/10, it had a perfect online aspect and everyone owned one. I may be a PS3 gamer but I'm no fanboy, from the outside looking in I can tell where the truth has been spun and the negatives have been brushed under the carpet. It's impossible to do that from within looking out.

Warhawk's reviews are too low imo. As an MP-only game I'd expect 9's or 10's. It's the best in it's field to date in the cons...

I don't know if I could honestly say that about Resistance. I like it and have played through it a few times, I love the frantic online play, but I wouldn't say it's the best FPS ever.

I'd put it more like this; 'It's a revolutionary FPS game that's pushed the online player cap more than any other console game and excelled at doing it.'

As for Halo 3... while it's not out just yet I can honestly say I'm disappointed by the player limit. I expected it to push the bou...

Play the full game, then review it. I don't want a review of the first level branded as the review of the whole game, I want a review of the whole game...end of.

Here's a typical example of a bad review technique:

Okay so you want to review Bioshock? Good for you, I suggest you play through the whole game first. What's that? You've published the review already, wow you finished it fast? No? You just played for an hour... ah I see.

Okay, so what w...

...yeah but they're gamers with a time constraint on the game and the requirement to get the review done for a certain date.

It's not really the same as owning the game and being able to put a hell of a lot more time into it and truly understanding how it plays.

I just bought Warhawk from PSN (retail version not out in Europe yet) and I have to say this is the best online game I've ever played. That's very high praise btw, I don't throw those words around lightly. Resistance and Motorstorm are great games, but multiplayer mode in Warhawk has that distinct 'please, just one more game!' aspect that all the great MP games have.

With Warhawk you finish one game, 30 secs later you're thrown into another and you tell yourself that after that...

As far as I know in terms of picture stability progressive beats interlacing. 1080p being the daddy of them all. 720 V 1080, the only difference is pixels and you won't notice the difference between 720p and 1080i much unless you have a screen greater than 46 inches.

720p is fine, 1080p is still imo a bit excessive. Full-HD is something we all want but is still rather expensive.
