Sony never said that. In actual fact they never attacked the 360 openly until they got fed up of Microsoft attacking the PS3. In fact, Microsoft also attacked the Wii at launch, look how wrong they were about that.
Sony have thought ahead with the components of the PS3. Alternatively, since launch MS have tried to right many wrongs with add-on releases:
1) External HD-DVD player. Because of Sony's built-in Blu-Ray drive, MS needed something to allow them to compete. It turned out to be a seriously bad decision backing HD-DVD. After saying the 360 didn't need a HD format drive, MS had done a 180 with the 360.

Apart from Ninty, who I've got a lot of respect for and always have done tbh, even though I dislike the Wii. The Wii is possibly the most innovative concept to be brought into the console world, then the PS3. The 360 has no real innovation. The Wii is full motion and although Sony's Sixaxis/DS3 is more precise than the Wiimote Nintendo have hit on a winning forumala here; sticking motion controlled games with casual party themes.

Go to GameTrailers (On your PS3) and to any vid (In HD obviously :P) even if it says your flash player is not up-to-date just go to the download button, then file and save target. Although you can't watch it online, you can download and watch it. It's what I do, then I don't need to wait on a site for it to buffer and load and all that.
Although they said firmware update 2.40 is 100% confirmed for June 18th.
So they got it wrong, but we got an update so I'm not complaining. I've expected a July 15th (Tue) release date since I found out about the E3 dates about a week ago. Since Sony haven't delayed 2.40, it was never set for the 18th in the first place. I hate it when rumours are taken as fact and someone is blamed for it when they've done nothing wrong, exactly what's happened here with Sony and 2.40.
Sony never confirmed the existence of 2.40 until a few days ago, and they still haven't set a release date. They said 2.36 was coming soon, it came today, exactly the same flow of events as the last update.
Sony wait until everything works properly before releasing something, that includes firmware updates, I predict an E3 release for 2.40 to allow Sony to showoff the new features at the expo. I could be wrong, I sure hope it comes out before that, but that's my best guess.

The PS3 is currently outselling the 360 in two major territories, Europe (2:1 in favour of the PS3) and Japan (Minimal 360 sales).
European sales are approx 40,000 (360) and 80,000 (PS3) that's an average since release for each month. So even with a year headstart the 360 lost Europe and Japan very quickly. PAL DVD's won't work on it either. Then again Blu-Ray discs are region free, so if you really wanted an 80GB and didn't mind the NTSC PS2 problem you could always just stick to BD movies.
The 60GB/80GB is better not just because of the BC (Will be updated in the 40GB) but the memory stick slots and the added USB ports. I use 2 constantly: Have a mini-keyboard and keep a charge cable at the ready. So the other 2 are used for an external HDD etc etc. 40GB only has 2.
Seriously, I'm not fussed about RE5. Shock-horror I know. There are 5 pages on this article of comments all pleading for this to either be untrue because they want it for PS3 or true because they're fanboys and want other gamers to lose out (In-built fanboy tendancy at it's prime).
