...but effects like smoke and explosions have got very close to real-life. The smoke in Killzone 2 looks real, it blows in the wind and moves properly. CG people are a whole different kettle of fish, the day we can't distinguish a CG person from a real one is the day we have true virtual reality not just photo-realism.
Some of the vids of GT5P made me think I was watching real cars, I knew I wasn't, but the fact that some doubt was there indicates it's very realistic.
Excellent post, bubbles! A well reasoned argument.
"218 GFLOP for ps3
115.2 GFLOP for 360"
I wouldn't mention that again on here though, you'll get your bubbles stolen by 360 fanboys and you'll give the PS3 fanboys more ammunition lol. Based on your post though I doubt you're the sort of person that'd get involved fuelling this console 'war'.
I wouldn't compare the PS3 to the Saturn at all, the present console climate is completely different.
Sony are not looking at this in the same way the fanboys are, the fanboys (on both sides) sit here mouthing off about 'their' console at the present, looking at the next few months and comparing those games. Sony are looking at probably 3 or maybe even 4 years into the future and planning what they're going to do with the PS3 in terms of 'evolving it' as Jack Tretton has said.

The 'next-level' of gaming to Hideo Kojima is probably fully mind-controlled games that are photo-realistic, putting you directly into the game.
That's the sort of thing he means and of course that isn't possible on any system at the moment.
The PS3 is a monster machine in that it's powerful but hard to control, it takes time to harness that power and put it to use.
Many 360 fanboys on this site and many others have stated that the phrase 'Only possible on PS3' is a lie.
MAG - 256 online players at once.
Resistance 2 - 60 online players at once.
MGS4 - Cannot be done on a 360 as is, would have to have tons of discs (Likely to be 2 discs+ per chapter), the inclusion of brandnames and mentioning of the PS3 bring the likelihood of it arriving on 360 to a miniscule %.
I don't see a 360 game with 256 players, 60 pla...
FFXIII will be finished for PS3 before even starting development on 360. Square have already stated that and it's been ignored by many and brought up here as if the 360 is now the most important system for FFXIII.
The plan of action for FF13 (as stated by Square Enix) is as follows:
1) - Game is finished for PS3 (for Japan only).
2) - Localisation begins for PS3 version (for US and Europe).
- 360 development begins.
3) - PS3 g...
I'm almost certain that Sony will never bring out a PSP with a second analog stick added, it would result in angry customers and games being made that support (possibly even need) the 2nd analog stick.
A new PSP would allow Sony to add a second stick, a mic or even a motion sensor to turn the PSP into a fully functional Sixaxis console.
They wouldn't be able to do so with the current PSP, but maybe a PSPv2 would come with those things...
It's not like trophy support is difficult to include anyway, and why wouldn't you want to have trophies in your game? It's an additional selling point.
It'd be a mistake for Sony to be too loose over Trophy support anyway, so enforcing it next year is definitely the way to go.
EDIT: Btw, what game is that in the trophy pic? I've seen the same image floating about.
I thought the point of Prologue was to be a sample of the game to come later in the year. 2010 is too far off. Mid 09 at the latest if Polyphony delay it. I thought it was coming out November of this year?
The latest trailer shows some action, a bit of gun stealing, running up a wall and taking someone out. It does look good but I don't know if it's got enough going for it to make it worth buying though and that's the only problem I have with it, honestly.
It's a cool new take on the first person genre but does it have enough of a pull to get people to buy it?
The BBC have been all over KZ2 for ages. They even used KZ2 clips when talking about Halo lol. We'll probably see a KZ2 tribute programme showing the whole process and the development next.
Btw have you all seen the gameplay footage over at GameTrailers? KZ2 looks top class, it's not as dull as I expected (Lighting-wise I mean lol), the effects of the Sun on the screen and the smoke of the rockets being blown in the wind. Seriously, KZ2 is the best looking game produced for a c...
For the trophy system Sony has a limit for the devs, I think it's either the number of each type of trophy or the amount of points (XP) they can award.
It appears as though the trophies for Bioshock have been extremely carefully put together, like using Bronzes to get players used to different tools in the game.
The Gold's should be amazingly difficult (The SS:HD Bomber trophy is Silver and harder than the Gold's), from this it appears as though the Gold's will h...
Do you think PS3 and 360 are close to equalling on total sales in Europe?
It's hard to find reliable numbers (VGCharts being at the bottom of the scale of reliability) but surely it's real close now, by the end of the year maybe?
How we get yet another VGCharts article. Oh wait... no it isn't.
This basically looks like the XMB. Slide it across to view the contents of 'My Xbox 360' and up or down to change to a different 'channel'.
How comes whenever Microsoft copies either Sony or Nintendo it's all fine and 'somehow different because it doesn't look EXACTLY the same', but whenever anyone produces something that looks anything like a product of Live people are all over them with 'OMG they copied Live!!'
They've taken the XMB and the Wii avatars and mixe...
You should consider maybe getting multiplatform games for the PS3 instead, Battlefield and Burnout have suffered hiccups on the 360 since release, Burnout especially, the Cagney update has been out for almost 2 weeks now on PS3 but is still set for 'End of July 2008' on 360. Battlefield has had issues with the servers for 360, I believe it's fine now (I hope so, wouldn't want anyone to miss out on some BF:BC action!) but the P2P standard for the 360 tends to be less reliable than dedicated se...
Surely if you were selling a console to someone you'd want to first and foremost tell them what it can do on it's own before telling them the games available, that's ultimately what someone's paying for. The PS3 has more functionality as standard without paying extra. For example, you can't actually play games online with others on the 360 unless you get an XBL Gold membership. Mention that to a mum looking for a console for her son and the extra cost to play online with his friends won't mak...
The whole article was basically saying that while Gears 2 will be a great game it's just not quite got the same impact the first one had, basically because this is the second game lol. It has the same features (and much more of course), but what he said was at first it looks and plays like new but after a while you realise it's the same old thing.
"Horde feels very much like Gears of War 1.5. Almost like a directors cut. Almost like the Gears of War multiplayer experience ...
Nothing in the gaming world can match reality yet. I would say the Motion Capture technology (e.g in Heavenly Sword, Uncharted and best of all Killzone 2) helps to further trick the brain because the characters move realistically. Getting game characters to look real is almost impossible due to the imperfections of skin, the difficulty of texturing veins and curves and removing the jaggies and I could go on about the difficulty of realistic facial features but I won't because it'll bore a lot...
