The review score does match up with the score I gave; I believed it to be a below average game, and I kept that in mind while writing it.
I gave the gameplay a five out if ten because, as it is stated in the review, the technical issues and lack of environment to explore hold it back. I even mention that stealthing through an area is fun given that the AI is pretty good and the mechanics are solid. But for me to say that the low framerate, combined with the basically linear l...
Phenomenal game, P4G.
I'm glad you enjoyed the review, and by all means, play it for yourself. I have no doubt that there are people who will find value in this game. Unfortunately, I was not one of those people... but different strokes for different folks.
Wow, N4G just keeps getting better and better! :D
Now imagine what the modding community could do with GTAV, Rockstar just needs to give them the green light. And by "green light," I of course mean bringing GTAV to PC.
The city looks HUGE! And so far, I'm enjoying the new Batman look, along with the other character design.
@Baccra17,
That's really surprising that you feel that way. I personally enjoyed the changes they made to the combat system from Asylum to City. The addition to multi-counters and different types of enemies really added an extra layer of strategy to the fights. And I felt that the punches in City landed equally as hard, if not harder, as they did in Asylum.
Also, I've never played Captain America, so I can't really comment on that myself.
I could have waited an extra year to play a game developed by Rocksteady, ya know, the team who made the Arkham series great in the first place, rather than playing a half-baked, buggy excuse for a Batman game.
I feel like they'd be necessary if there's a giant, Bat-mobile hulking around the streets. I don't want my car to come to a halt every time I run into a light post or whatever.
The Fox Engine really is a beautiful looking engine. Can't wait for this game, only 14 more days!
Considering that Rocksteady's last Batman was 2011, they've probably been working on this one since then. Maybe even writing the story parallel with Arkham City.
This might sound weird, but now I am curious about the width of the streets and destructible environments/objects.
Hopefully we'll see some gameplay at or before E3 that will answer these questions.
I don't think it's possible to forget some of my best gaming years... so no worries here!
@Baccra17,
Really?! You didn't like Arkham City? Might I ask you to be more specific as to what combat changes they made that you didn't like, and any other reasons you found it to be not as good as, or even worse than, Asylum?
Probably because it's the true next Batman game from Rocksteady, which means that, in all likelihood, it will be phenomenal!
I have complete faith in Rocksteady to deliver the Batman game of my dreams. I mean, they've already done it twice!
I need a new pair of pants...
I'm frothing at how hyped I am for this game... been waiting for Rocksteady's next Batman since 2011!
Color me extremely intrigued! LOVE the art style, and the concept of cube planets tickles me. Can't wait to see more on this!
Great review!
I am playing through it right now, and the only problem I have with the game is that it's just too easy. I'm playing on Hardcore because I had read other places that on Normal one could go through without much effort, but I'm still finding the combat to be far easier than any turn-based RPG I've played.
Other than that though, it's probably the best South Park game ever made.
