I replayed this game 3 times for the trophies. Then 3 more times because I LOVED IT. Such a beautifully crafted game; it's definitely one that will go down as an all time favorite for me.
The Phantom Pain was my most anticipated title when it was announced, and after playing Ground Zeroes, that anticipation has only been strengthened. The gameplay, graphics, sound design, and basically everything about the game except for its relative shortness and reliance on replay value, are absolutely fantastic. It feels like the only possible evolution for the MGS series, and it definitely gives me hope for the future.
I really enjoyed reading this review; it got the points of concern that many people have about the game, while explaining in a quite funny way why those points are overshadowed by the sheer quality of the game.
What a clever and well thought-out review!
@One_Eyed_Wizard,
I personally liked Hayter in 2 and 3. Especially 3's creepy gun-porn moments lol. I always thought his voice acting was a little over the top, but for those games it felt right. Now that Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain are taking a more serious direction, I think it's fitting that they chose a more serious sounding voice actor.
But yeah, nostalgia will always outweigh most people's willingness to accept something new. The onl...
I, personally, enjoy Kiefer's voice for Big Boss. To me, he sounds like a human being now, instead of Hayter's later work (PW really) where everything was just a gargling sound with words thrown in.
And about the leadership thing, I would say that it's a bit too early to judge his full performance because, well, this isn't his full performance. I would say the best voice actor in Ground Zeroes was Kaz, simply because his voice is so prevalent in that game, esp...
Sooooo this basically confirms that Watch_Dogs will, in fact, be using UPlay and not Steam?
Wow this sounds really cool! I'm not really interested in FPS types of VR, with games like Skyrim or anything because I feel like I would just end up using the joystick to look around anyway, rather than my head. VR, when it's used in ways like this, however, makes a lot of sense. When I'm driving a car, I'm just sitting in a stationary position and the only thing I'm moving besides my hands is my head. I'd be all for a racing/flying sim with VR.
Now i...
Really? I've yet you upgrade to a Solid State because they are just so damn expensive. I bought a "Hybrid-Drive" awhile back, but I didn't see too much improvement with load times and whatnot.
I love speed... but I also love storage space. Anything less than 1TB just seems too small, but SSD's of that size are just too expensive for me at the moment :/
Medium, March is a great month!
That's why I said OR he likes to take his time. I don't try to beat every game as soon as possible, I realize that people have different paces. It just surprised me that at only 68% he had already sunken 14-16 hours into the game. Like, to me that just seems like he spent a lot of time taking in the graphical fidelity or something, which is understandable.
14-16 hours with only 68% completed?! Either this guy is really bad at video games, or he likes to take his time... and I mean REALLY take his time. I struggled to push 12 hours on my first playthrough. That being on expert difficulty and 100%ing side objectives. I could see 14-16 hours of play completing everything on Expert (obviously there are various skill levels of play), but no way with only the main story line with sight-seeing included.
By speedrun do you mean it literally? Like, alerts with guards killed and stuff? Or no alert/kill speedruns?
Human Revolution was one of my favorite games in 2012. Very good stealth mechanics coupled with fantastic atmosphere set a really nice pace for the plot. Loved every second of it, though in the Director's Cut, I'm glad they added non-confrontational means of taking down the bosses.
Thank you! It always makes me happy to see people enjoying my reviews.
Lol thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the review!
I am a fan of the series, and I am not saying that this is the best MGS ever made or anything. But from what I've seen thus far regarding gameplay, graphics, and plot, The Phantom Pain is shaping up to be among the best. The only real problem with this game is that it isn't given much room to breathe, but that's to be expected considering it's just the prologue.
Why would the reviewer have expected a super long game? Kojima specifically said that this was a prologue to The Phantom Pain. Also, many sites came out and said that the main campaign mission was only about two hours long.
And as for the game being marketed as a "demo," that wouldn't be accurate to what this game is. It IS a game, whether anyone likes it or not. Demos serve as small slices of full games, not games that contain story and scenario of their own, w...
This was a really underrated game, especially with couch co-op. Plus, the soundtrack is phenomenal.
I'm glad you enjoyed the review!
Yeah, the camaraderie is strengthened by the sense of accomplishment in the Souls series. In Dark Soul II, I summoned a couple guys to help me beat one of the tougher bosses near the end, as I had failed multiple times by myself. After we triumphantly defeated him, without saying anything to each other, we all simultaneously praised the sun! It was a glorious and hilarious moment, and even though none of us spoke, I knew that we were all t...
The reversible box art is so lovely.

I honestly couldn't believe one of the later tapes... I'd say this marks a big step towards a more gritty Metal Gear Solid, and I can't wait to see how this story unfolds.
