It was a phenomenal year indeed. Best of all? It's a completely personal experience.
It cant be perfection. It's not a Nintendo game. Only them are able to do plataforming right.
Nintendo fans are ridiculous sometimes.
And one time more the business model of Game as a Service proved itself as the most profitable.
That's way every company will move from tradicional games and distribution models to these kind of business.
I like how some people try to sneak pass these articles of praising Nintendo as something else.
I think the concept of backwards compatible is already dead and obsolete. Nobody says that a new iPhone or Android is BC. It's assumed that if the hardware is capable, everythig is going to work.
Game consoles are, for a lot of reasons, machines with outdated concepts. I'm not saying that I don't like those concepts, but for companies they are obsolete. And BC is one of those outdated concepts.
Next "gen", or just the next cycle of h...
I think they will keep making them, but as any open capital companies they will pressured to come onboard the new trend. Like Nintendo had put their IPs on mobile and Sony investing in streaming.
SP games will become more sparse over time while resources are moved to more profitable models.
It's naive. The crash of US game market of the 80's was something very specific.
I'm not saying you do this, but a lot of gamers think that captalism works by customer satisfaction. The game companies already changed the landscape of the business for something better for them. Most of the money is already made in game services.
What we are seeing is the big three traditional companies (Nintendo, Sony and specially Microsoft) moving themselves...
I didn't open the article yet but I want to make a bet. If the choice was made by "games journalists", they are probably around 28~34 years old today. So, the number one console must be the most popular console when those people were 8~12 years old.
So it must be SNES.
I don't understand how Octopath Traveler didnt win.
It's retro style
It's pixel art
It's nostalgic
It's portable
And most important it's Nintendo Switch exclusive.
The list and site have no credibility.
I don't know why, but when a game is lauched for a Nintendo platform it gets automatically better.
I have no interest in DQ XI on Ps4 but totally buying on Switch to play on the big screen.
Wii U is Nintendo 6th home console. But saying that Switch is a "true" competitor, is like saying PlayStation was a competitor to SNES and Xbox 360 was a competitor to PS2.
They were products aimed to start a new cicle. The same way Switch is.
Most Nintendo fans forget too. For them Switch is the console that Nintendo made to compete with PS4 ando Xone.
Well executed, well polished and high vale game, but lacks something to make it a Classic.
It seems like the best version of a game that you are playing the last seven years.
To americans, USA market is the same as world market. It's stupid but they think that way.
Wii U's comercial failure has some kind of amnesia effect on some people.
Switch came as a sucessor of two systems: 3DS and Wii U. If you look at the raw numbers, Nintendo is selling less hardware now than in the 8th generation and a lot less than 7th gen.
We need to contextualize the number to don't be fooled.
Nintendo hardware, oposite from Nintendo software, has short legs. The company tends to start with strong support than cut it in the middle of the product life cycle.
I like how people easily forget Wii U. Nintendo atempt to beat PS4 and XOne was a console released in 2012, one year in advance of the competitors.
Switch, the sucessor of 3DS and Wii U is an early atempt to start a new generation.
"Reveal".
