Good question. I don't think it has an official release date. Sometime in 2019 is planned, right? But, there is no actual date. If it was planned for early next year (pre Spring) I would say yes it probably be allowed to be on other systems and may even be part of the company's sale agreement to Microsoft. Otherwise, the longer the release date (9 months or a year more from) is from this point the less likely Microsoft would want it (other than streaming in the future) or allow it t...
Laughable that you think Steam in any way open. No, it is not they are both walled gardens. PS is a walled garden, Xbox is a walled garden, Steam is definitely a walled garden, Windows Store is a walled garden. GOG is probably the only place that really is open of these the gaming-related stores/environments. You can't play Steam without their gadget protection and their OK verification. How is that more open than a...
@CellDechance
Gaming division is a separate entity within MS now (since 2017) they don't hide numbers as part of all of the Windows division. You actually think the Windows store game sales bring in the of billions in additional gaming revenue? What else is there under gaming for Xbox/gaming division? And Sony SIE is more than PS4. So that revenue from PSVR is also mixed in with that 17 billion revenue from 2018. Which in turn means it is much more impressive how MS is doing in o...
Secondly, your second word "multiplatform" tells you their purpose of this company is to support multi-platforms. They support PC and console. The phone is a fast-growing extension and part of the multiplatform world experience. This is not succumbing to greed but doing exactly what the company should be doing as you clearly admit it is a multiplatform company. Or is it only multiplatform for the platforms you agree w...
Don't worry when Sony releases PS Classic 2019 (PSC2) next year it will have another 20 different games you can spend another $100 and it will include games that the original PS Classic 2018 (referred to as the PSC1) may have missed like Twisted Metal 2. Of course, it will have 16 of those 20 be obscure choices that people are upset about and the PS Classic 2020 (PSC3) model, for another $100, will fix with 20 different games. But, just wait for for the 2023 5th anniversary PS Classic mod...
@kneon I think the point was PS1 and PS2 emulation on the PS4. Most people understand why PS3 is probably impossible for the PS4 base systems. However, PS1 and PS2 should not be impossible at all on the current PS4. And if they can use this emulator in a retro box (an emulator which runs on x86 as well) there is no reason they couldn't do it for the current PS4.
I doubt PS3 emulation will be of high concern for Sony for the PS5 but, do expect some form of PS4 BC on the PS5...
@kneon You don't think the majority of these will be sold to people that have a PS4 already? If so, you definitely don't know the target audience. At $100 the target audience is the PS fan not mom's and pop's looking to buy a toy for their kid or joe schmoes who don't own a PS4 buying this device to relive their youth. If this were priced at how it should be (under $50) then your target audience would be broad cross-section that includes those groups but not at it's c...
Reading the comments it is obvious no one here actually read the article. I guess that is not unusual here as most seem filled with the need to comment first and then to actually read the article they are commenting on. To the lazy masses, the name is not changing from Crackdown but, possibly adding an additional part to the name, which is not unusual for games in the first place. It may end up being called Crackdown 3 - New Providence.
First, Game Pass by the end of Q3 2018 (Oct, Nov, Dec 2017 when this data was collected) was only 5 months old compared to the PSNow which by that time over three years old. And let's be real most of those first few months of GP are people using their free trials.
Secondly, PSNow was charging twice the amount monthly than GP so people are falsely translating that revenue numbers into a 1 to 1 correlation to total users subscribing or somehow seeing the same number of us...
@Srhalo. And yet with such a large list everyone still names the 5 or 6 games (eg. like RE7 - the go to game) that really are any good and last more than 20 minutes. Most of that list of supposed 423 VR games for PSVR are short toss away games and yes tech demos. They are by large part the fart apps or flappy bird games of VR.
And you can argue all you want 3.5% attachment rate is a niche group. Even Sony says PSVR has not lived up to expectations. If Microsoft had release...
No it didn't. Activision stock was down quite a bit from it's high this past month at more than a week before the Diablo mobile incident. It has been down because of expectations that Activision would not meet goals. It is down $14 and almost $11 of that is pre Blizzcon drop. So unless investors knew about the Diablo mobile and thought it was going to go badly a week or two before the event then highly doubt the current drop (even the $3 drop after the event) has anything to really ...
"Activision Blizzard Inc. shares were hammered as video gamers took to social media to criticize a new mobile game"
Oh come talk about a hyper fake story. The drop had very little to do with reaction from Blizzcon. Activision stock had declined more than $10 over a week before Blizzcon and this Diablo mess as investors were preparing earnings not to be up to expectation. This mobile issue and criticizing did not help (dropping the stock another $3) since that ann...
^^^^ I forgot the laserdisc created in the late 70's (and actually the one and same as MCA Discovision which is a brand name ). It was a transformative device that actually led to the formation of DVDs. Pioneer learned from their laserdisc development in the 80's to create a more compact version called the DVD in the 90's, which led to the creation of the Blu-Ray disc. So yes the laserdisc was the future.
And what technology would that be that has to be pushed long before the cloud? It is a serious question. And no faster processor, better GPU and more memory is not an answer. That is a given part of any new generation. What exactly do you see as being technology that would benefit all gamers (or at least a large percentage of gamers and not a just support a very small percentage of users needs)? That can end of being something that can possibly transform the gaming experience.
Here is the problem with your "laserdisc, HDDVD, Betamax" argument. For each one of those there was a competing (similar) technology that won out.. What each of your examples represented was the future. It was not that the idea didn't represent a fundamental shift in technology acceptance, it did and did happen. HDDVD lost out to Blu-Ray, But, the HD video itself was the future. Betamax lost out to VHS. But home video players/recorders was the future. Each of your examples w...
That would be a very smart move. Let others be the test cases. Thank God I was not an idiot with my name and I don't have to worry about any of this. But, I definitely recommend to anybody don't be first in line for changing your name. A few more months of having a stupid/imature name is much easier to live with then any possible issues that may cause you anguish and not be recoverable by doing this early.
The total game time is limited to a total 10 hours of play over that 11 days. Not 11 days of total unlimited play.
However, that is one of the advantages of paying for their subscription service, early access to games. Its a perk. Just like Prime gives you additional perks for paying for the Amazon 2day shipping subscription (music, video, special deals, Prime day) or MS Gold or PS Plus give you perks for subscribing to their online services (e.g. free monthly games).
@LiamKreptic. Call Sony out on this. Don't blame EA they offered to give the same service to PS members but Sony turned them down. For what making peoples only choice be their own PSNow subscription service Besides, I hear that PS owners all have a capable PC gaming rigs to play all those Play Anywhere games (or at least that is what they say). So, if that is the case and you don't have an Xbox why don't you get Access for the PC. Battlefield will be available early for the PC ve...
