of course it will be around for 10 years - its already halfway there.

but will it be RELEVANT for 10 years? no, not at all. will it be able to compete with a next gen xbox? not a hope in hell.

the PS2 was relevant for maybe 6 years (going from when it released in japan) out of the 11 its been on the market, so the PS3 will easily eclipse that. but having said that, the 360 already has.

personally, being an early adopter of pretty much every c...

Crysis 2, on the 360 at least, looks better IN MY OPINION than Killzone 3 does. on a technical level it is streets ahead of KZ3 too. ill explain my reasons for both my opinion and the technical side:

- Lighting: Crysis 2 uses Global Illumination, HDR, and goes for realism. it has god rays where god rays should be, the GI created dynamic shadows on everything all the time, and the HDR adds a lot to the realism. Killzone 3 has no Global Illumination, uses lots of pre-baked ligh...

some people seem to be getting messed up with their interpretation of the article. how i dont know, since its spelled out pretty easily.

theyre saying that the 360 demo is using OLD code, the PS3 demo is essentially using finished code - basically the same code youll get on the retail copy.

so there will be improvement in the already superior 360 version, but little to no improvement in the inferior PS3 version.

case closed, not hard to under...

its amazing because it gives 3D without the need for glasses, a 3D tv, or reduced graphics due to having to render 2 different images. all this does is move the in-game camera based on your position in real life - its doing all the 3D in the game, not through the TV or your 3D glasses.

THAT is why its amazing. yes, this was done using the wii, and could be done using the Move - but not the same way. Move and the Wii would base the movement of the in-game camera on the positio...

someone made a website literally hours after the video first got shown here in australia (where the fight happened):

http://www.caseyheynes.com/

on one of our news shows that night they had the mum of the little bully, and well, you can see why she named her kid 'Ritchard' - shes about as bogan as they come lol (bogan is like redneck for you USA folk). had teeth that could chew an apple through a ...

the graphics in this video look incredible, but dont for one secone think that this video is in any way indicative of the type of destruction that youll get in real-time in multiplayer or even single player when just running around firing rockets at random buildings.

its all pre-scripted - the sniper always shoots those same places, the building will always explode in the same way (although itll most likely use phyics calculations for the falling debris).

sounds interesting, but from a technical standpoint it cant really work better than Rock Band 3 with the Pro Guitar or the real guitar that was recently released. its just not technically possible, since RB3 directly reads the input from the real guitar via sensors in the fretboard. this game doesnt, because no guitars have those sensors.

ive got:

5. Guitar Hero 3 – The Inhuman Achievement

but thats it from that list. Seriously 2.0 also counts kills in the campaign and horde now though, so thats cheapened it a bit.

one thing you can be sure of is that if Microsoft added cloud storage to the 360 for game saves, it would do it properly - all saves automatically upload to the cloud when youre connected to Live, and to the local HDD when not connected, then upload as soon as a connection is re-established.

do i think the 360 needs it? no, not really. would i be against it getting it? no.

the funny thing is, the fact that it DOESNT run perfectly on the PS3 works in Cryteks favour when theyre saying theyre pushing the PS3 to its limits.

now dont get me wrong, im NOT saying that they are completely using 100% of the theoretical power of the PS3 - but if a game was using every single last drop of the PS3s power to run, it would have some performance problems because there would never be a single KB of RAM spare, or never have a spare cpu cycle. so when suddenly 1...

it is funny how people still think that Steam, like it is on the PC, is coming to the PS3.

like you said, Steamworks != Steam. the PS3 is getting SteamWORKS people, not Steam. from Valves own Steamworks site:

"Whether you’re looking for matchmaking, achievements, anti-cheat technology, in-game economy systems with microtransactions, or the next big feature in gaming, Steamworks has what you need."

so Steamworks does matchmaking.......

a few incorrect things from the article:

"HUD bobbles a lot"
well duh, its supposed to. theres even a setting for how much it bobbles in the options lol. dont want it to bobble? turn the HUD shake setting completely down to zero.

"The PS3 version runs at the resolution of 1024×720 which is sub-HD and looks poor"
well its not sub-HD. technically it does have the 720 vertical lines required of 720p, so its 720p. is it th...

eh, ill install all ~7gb of it on my 360 so i dont care.

PS3 installs are a pain for me though, as my PS3s main use is PlayTV - ive got a 320gb HDD in there, and with most HD movies i record being 10-11gb, and footy games being even more, im regularly having to find stuff to delete. GT5s install is looking increasingly likely to go.

but if an install makes a game play better then im all for it. i install EVERY game i regularly play on the 360.

to be honest, i dont care.

ive finished games in 1 hour that have been the best games of my life - sonic the hedgehog 2 for mega drive, for example.

Limbo was only a few hours but was absolutely brilliant the entire time. i had more fun playing that than i had in many games ive played for 5 times as long.

how many hours a game is does not equal how much fun youll have. while i completed Uncharted 2 in 7 hours and never touched the single play...

wow....

the PS3 version is clearly a lower resolution than the 360 version, and uses Quincunx AA instead of their new temporal AA + edge detection.

looks like the 360 gets the better looking version of Crysis 2, and the 360 version takes the crown for best graphics on any console. ill download the PS3 demo when i get home to see the differences first hand, but its not looking good for the PS3.

also just like to point out that the second pictu...

wow, had to do a lot of bubbling down in this topic - everyone that said things along the lines of 'how many PS3 games has Carmack made?' or basically questioned his intelligence/knowledge got a disagree and bubble-down.

the man is a genius. literally. he is probably the greatest programmer the videogame world has ever seen. he doesnt just design games then 'fob' them off to his other developers, he gets right in there and programs himself.

i dont understand why they took screen captures before the textures had fully loaded on the 360? i mean, wait an extra half a second and theyd be loaded with the EXACT same textures as the PS3 version, since they both use the exact same texture files.

the PS3 has a mandatory install, it should load them a bit quicker. do the full install on the 360 and it will load them even faster. if they did this comparison without the install on the PS3 that speeds up loading, youd have a...

there is NOTHING wrong with our ratings board. they go along with the rules given to them and rate games with the given ratings.

the problem is that the government wont allow an R18+ rating. if there was an R18+ rating available for the ratings people to assign to games, they would use it and we wouldnt have this problem. but they cant give a game a rating that doesnt exist under our government.

oh well, all this means is that instead of paying $80 for Mortal...

im ready for the next generation, no doubt about it.

im still thoroughly enjoying this generation and it still has plenty left to give, but of course i want a new console with 2gb+ RAM, more CPU/GPU power, etc. id be an idiot not to.

i dont care about the fact that ive spent thousands on this generation, ill happily plonk down a few hundred more for a new console. those thousands i spent havent been wasted because ive had hundreds of hours of fun, and will co...
