What does 8.1 take away? Seems like an improvement

Not that I have any problem with Windows 8: actually it's by far the most most powerful, stable and power-user friendly I've ever worked with - a big improvement over 7.
It's not an OS I'd recommend to my grandma over her good old XP, or to any other conservative person having hard time to adjust to a new OS and simply wants to play solitaire and read emails.

So far the only problem I ...

The VC-1 Patent pool mostly consists of Microsoft patents, so either way you have to pay them directly for patent implementation (which Sony does), or indirectly via the MPEG LA, which in turns pays Microsoft most of that amount since they're holding most of the patents for VC-1.

But doesn't really change the big picture though. It's a global world where each electronic product you create will require making payments to multiple companies and trade bodies thanks t...

Wait, wait!
You forgot how MS also wanted you to work two jobs to be able to afford an Xbox 360, how they told you that rumble is a last gen feature and took it out of the controller only to bring it back again later on with a new more expensive controller, how they didn't bother to encrypt sensitive user data and then got hacked spilling your personal information, and how they promised an open architecture with Linux OS support and then simply took it away from you...

It's misleading because the title there actually says "All PS4 Systems Get The Playroom & Phone Billing for Content on PSN, More Details on the PlayStation Camera" whereas here it sounds as if the Playstation camera is bundled with every system.

@CrimsonSquall

Yeah, I really messed that up :)
If anything, Infamous is just getting better and better by release. It really shows that they get the time they need to push the series forward.

" most good games for Sony and Microsoft's audience are on ps3 and 360 this year like GTA5 and WATCHDOGS,COD GHOSTS,ect"

And that is the WiiU's biggest problem: it's not even getting most of the current gen multiplatforms so why even switch to it? All at the same time, next-gen multiplatforms shared between the PS4 and XB1 don't even consider the WiiU as a platform so there is pretty much nothing to expect from 3rd parties in years to come.

These games are already profitable, but the company itself might not be because they have to both cover prior expenses, and at the same time they are already investing a lot of money in their upcoming games.

I think the PSU article is sarcasm.
After all, after the CELL practically threw Sony from the leader position in the market and resulted in a delayed, much weaker (they had to strap in a video card in the last minute) and more complex to develop platform - it would be madness to consider this architecture again.

@ZBlacktt
Polygon count doesn't really matter unless we know what LOD is involved: After all 250,000 polygons is actually just half of GT5 polycount for photo mode and a quarter of the million polygons for some cars in Forza 4 autovista mode - and these are last gen game.

The review here actually mentions that Drive Club looks very bad for a next gen game. But it's a work in progress so let's give them the benefit of doubt and just see how it turns out o...

Hopefully yes - Ninja Theory managed to remain independent, and still improved from game to game.

Insomniac on the other hand didn't... they started this generation very well, but pushed by Sony to release Ratchet and Infamous titles back-to-back probably took a toll and quality decreased.
Then there was the independent move to the arms of EA with Overstrike, but that seemed to have involved executive meddling that ruined the colorful tone of the game as it was re...

I ROFLed so hard here...

When you talk about games as a unique art form and shoving games in the faces of those in the film industry, it might be better not to include 3/4 games which are trying the hardest to mimic the Hollywood industry, one of them even refereed by its creator as interactive cinematic experience.

Not to mention, two of the games you mentioned actually won "best of shows" in the past: Uncharted and The Last of US. You should eithe...

@Mr_Nuts
Your comment sounds a bit delusional... you are mentioning games which were never chosen as best games overall in E3 Game Critic Awards. Some of them could have (GTA IV), but didn't even appear in E3 so they didn't even qualify. Most other games you mentioned were never even nominated.

If you want to dismiss Titanfall, it's best to have a look at what games actually won "best of show" in the past years:
2012 - Last of Us

No, it's just beating the competition because of brand recognition and features. But the alternatives offered by Desura, Humble Store, GOG and more are counter offering are great nonetheless, and if Steam wasn't around anymore they would simply take it's place.

Wider is not faster. If one funnel allows water to go through in a shorter time then the first drop of water will get out faster. That's latency.

Higher bandwidth means that even if the latency is slower, the overall throughput can be higher because multiple drops of water can pass through simultaneously.

So it all comes down to what you require: higher throughput (particle simulation, graphics rendering) or higher speed (AI, seq...

MS announced 15 games coming only from internal studios, and confirmed to be talking about retail games only. So games such as Titanfall and Below are not even counted towards that.

Sony's 20 games on the other hand have no confirmation if it's just internal studios (so no 2nd party studios or 3rd party publishers), and if that's excluding downloadable titles. We'll have to wait and see I presume.

Yet Xbox One exclusives still garnered more nominations and awards than PS4 exclusives... point still stands I presume.

After all, you don't see a Sony PR messages saying how many awards and nominations they received overall, right? Right?

But the actual praise should go to Titanfall devs who are independent from Microsoft. Respawn really outdid themselves and delivered the game of the show - not a simple task when your are competing against so many other...

@Cmk0121

You got it all wrong: The cross platform games looked better on the X360 simply because it was a more powerful system. This time around it's the PS4 that is more powerful.

4609d ago 0 agree1 disagreeView comment

It's definitely a sacrifice from developers perspective, very similar to how Microsoft gave up on mandatory hard drive with the 360.

Sure, as customers the 360 gave us more options and a lower starting price point. But from a developer perspective it meant developers can't rely on this kind of functionality existing in every machine and so there is less incentive to actually take advantage of that. It's pretty much the same story this time around, only the roles a...

Exactly. If people think this was funny they should watch Clueless Gamer reviews - the funniest thing in the industry ever since Yahtzee reviews started growing a bit stale. Hitman Absolution was my favorite.
