The original vision sat pretty well with gamers and Steam is a living proof: Buy anywhere, own a digital copy locked to your account. And just like the original vision Steam also requires periodical logins.

The result? Around 60 Million happy Steam costumers not able to sell the physical copy of their game - but enjoying countless other benefits of the digital world. The people who objected the vision where either misinformed (Microsofts epic fail marketing) or trolling.

Still not good enough:
The magic behind the original vision was that you could buy your game physically in any shop and still enjoy the benefits of digital sharing. So even if Amazon is throwing a 10$ daily deal for an Xbox game, or if you get a 2 for 25 deal from Walmart or something - it will still be added to your digital library and you could share it.

But now it's only if you buy the game directly from the Xbox marketplace, where ridiculous 75% discounts are ...

Titanfall is not EA's IP - It's Respawn's who are independent. EA is only publishing it under EA Partners program (mainly to stick one up to Activision) but the IP is not theirs.

Will they release the game to every platform? That's up to the developers and the deal they struck with Microsoft. Maybe, maybe not.
Case in point: Left 4 Dead. Externally published by EA, IP owned by valve, nothing to do with Microsoft - and still no PS3 announced for neither...

@DarkBlood
LOL, I guess people let the Terminator reference just fly over their head. And yours wasn't even as subtle as mine... I wonder how many people agreeing/disagreeing with my comment knew that Pescadero State Hospital is the fictional institute where Sarah Connor was administrated.

@edonus
I have to completely disagree with you:
RYSE did have a rocky E3 for the sole reason of overly relying heavily on QTEs in a short demonstration. It obviously looked like the best looking launch title all around, but the QTE still made it look like an overly scripted linear game.

For some reason developers think that this kind of showcase is cool. Tomb Raider did the same in E3 2011 and got some serious flack because of that - and it's not an exclus...

@DigitalRaptor

The main problem with all the games you mentioned is that they're not really falling into the category of "This company is supporting the developers of tomorrow and giving them a stage, a catalyst if you will, to prove themselves".

When Microsoft picked up games like Bastion or Braid or Limbo or Deadlight or Fez and many others they took a risk with an unknown developer who had no prior games to show for. It was kind of a gamble. ...

If by "abandoning" you mean 7+ years of first party games, I'd love to be abandoned like that every generation.

I'd say that Microsoft only started abandoning the 360 after Horizon, Halo 4 and the latest Gears around march this year (although there's still a flux of indie XBLA games).
Sony still offers quality games and will probably continue into at least early 2014, but they started offering the console and their games one year later as well. ...

Ignore him. He just escaped from the Pescadero State Hospital and is clearly delusional.

Nothing to do with success in Taiwan, just with the sums of money changing hands - just like any other ad deal.

What kind of question is that? One has to be restarted to even consider a generation leap can even compete on the level of physics..
If anything, GT6 still needs to beat current gen Forza from two years ago. After all GT5 still trails behind Forza 4 when it came to physical simulation. Once we see some proper tire mechanics, better deformation and proper parts customization Like we'll talk.

From retail perspective it's indeed inferior. Wished Infamous wasn't postponed to 2014, since it seems like a must have game and a great open world offering to counter Dead Rising 3.

Don't know about digital though, since Sony advertizes "launch window" games with no specific dates for these games, while Microsoft specifically mentioned games available on the first day - but then they didn't even mention what day that would be. Dust still needs time ...

Funny as hell, but it seems Sony still lacks investments in the marketing department.
Twitter message? When Microsoft trolled Sony last gen for late release in Europe they did it ON A BOAT:

Now that's taking pro trolling to the next level.

Only problem with your argument is, people like Tretton are not gamers. They're suits.
Tretton is coming from Activision after all, same origins as Bobby Kotick. And before that Duracell. He was never a gamer and never a game developer.

But the thing is: suits work. Be it Kotick or Tretton, or Gabe Newell - games are a business and you need to know how to run a business.

Don Mattick on the other head started his career in game design - and look wh...

Saying something like this about Destiny is very ambiguous: since it's an external developer-publisher agreement, it can make money for the publisher and not break-even for the developer, or vice-versa. It all depends on the contract details. But even then Bungie is a conservative studio and they know how to scale and manage a game budget without going overboard. Maybe if 10 million copies was the number of overall franchise sales that estimate would make sense, but not just for the first...

Actually steam doesn't only force you to login first to go to offline mode, but also requires re-authentication every 10 days or so.

The actual differences between the XBone and steam is that trading in and selling physical copies of games was still allowed (under some restrictions), and sharing your library with family was also possible. But Steam is indeed one great example of the transition to digital is greatly benefiting the entire PC ecosystem.

That's why I always loved and defended the points system. It god rid of stupid currency conversion overhead, and you could even get it at a serious discount because it wasn't considered "real" money: I actually got 10%-20% discount on average when buying points on sales.

But no, people complained and wanted to see "real" money because it's too confusing and disorienting to convert in your head 10$ to 800 points.
Well, just like the no-d...

I think that the only thing that matters outside where your online friends are is the performance on each system. So far the Xbox 360 proved to be superior for games running on the Rockstar engine, with better resolution and IQ.
but we'll have to wait and see.

You are correct about the 60fps assumption. They even mentioned that the reason they chose the Source engine in the first place was because of how it was capable to run at 60fps not only on the X360 but even on the PS3 (before they entered into exclusivity deal)
