That's the thing I really don't understand: I can see how they claim to have the strongest console based on the specs (lets put aside the failed promises on the PS3), I can see how they claim that their console is cheaper (ignoring Nintendo as a competitor, which is probably something they brought on themselves).
But as far as exclusive launch line ups go... they don't even have the best offering this coming gen. Speaking strictly facts The Xbox One has a bigger exclusive ...
Really? And I was worried we will never see any Triple-A exclusive except for the announced ones because that's how console game development usually is. What a relief!
- Original Xbox games looked much better Than PS2. If you couldn't tell the difference then it's your own eyes you need to examine.
- The sad truth (people were reluctant to hear for so long) is that the PS3 wasn't even 1x as powerful as the Xbox 360. That is why again we saw multiplatform games on the 360 eclipsing the PS3 counterparts. Nothing to do with lazy dev, simply with a more limited and restrictive hardware: less ram, less solid architecture and weaker G...
SCE didn't really work *WITH* Capcom: The engine is 100% Capcom (and developed on PC, just like their last gen MT framework), the IP belongs to Capcom and the publisher is Capcom (unlike for example DR3).
SCE simply *AIDED* Capcom, which is pretty much a given when talking devloper-platform owner relationships. You want the games to work well on your platform? You should probably assist them and support their efforts. It's part of the reason they pay you for devkits. ...
Maybe that's why they claim now "far above 30fps". They just average the 30fps single and 60fps multi :)
Anyway, having an fps bump over 30 is useless unless they can hit that sweet 60fps spots. Everything in the middle (be it 35, 45 or 55) will simply *decrease* the quality because you will have either screen tears or dropped frames and choppy gameplay. There's pretty much nothing else you can do when the screen refresh rate is 60HZ.
"Well, a lot of the details of the world are only made possible thanks to the PS4. A lot of cool things like rain-slicked pavement with reflective lights… "
Oh. So just like GTA V on current gen consoles...
One week baby!
@Mystogan
Because then people will have to face the realization that the console version of Deep Down looks way below the original PC demonstration from a couple of months ago...
@Evilsnuggle
I'm still not sure if you're talking graphics or gameplay... games are still all a work in progress.
I'm asking because Ryse graphics look better than any next-gen launch game. Expected considering how it's the tech gods of Crytek and their most sophisticated engine. Graphically it looks even better than Forza 5 which in turns looks better (and has a far better developer track record) than Driveclub which is supposed to be the equ...
I wouldn't bother asking for sources. The "article" author didn't even make the obvious distinction between development budget and marketing budget, while comparing the dev+marketing budget of GTA to development budget alone for other games. Modern Warfare 2 for example already ecplised 250M$ total budget according to similar sources, split 50:200 between dev and marketing respectively.
Yeah, I'm really hoping for a proper HD direct feed demo. The earlier tech demo looked like one of the most impressive things next-gen but this stream looks horrible: washed out colors, choppy artifacts etc. but even considering that I'm afraid some aspects look like they dialed things back (fire effects)
I hope the actual demo restores the faith, otherwise this will be one of the biggest disappointments from a tech perspective.
This is what I find weird here: While the article headlines mentions "battle for best console title", nothing in the body has any mention of the actual games. I wonder who approved this thing.
We won't know who's gonna win until the games are actually out - half of them are not even announced. But it's indeed crystal clear that the One has a more solid line up: In the battle for "real exclusives" Dead Rising 3, Ryse, Forza 5 and Killer Instinct...
"If you have two divisions each costing a billion a year, and one brings in 8% and one 40%, how long do you continue to invest in the 8% division before shareholders demand to know why their money is being spent in this manner?"
What kind of flawed logic is that!? If you have a division that brings in 100 MILLION DOLLARS a year the last thing you want to do is to close it. You want to nurture it and make it bigger - especially if you have other divisions practically...
@savaroth
I actually agree with you - but please note that I was making a distinction between RPGs and JRPGs (who for most part aren't really RPGs in the same sense western games are).
Regarding JRPGs, I clearly stated that "about two years ago when MS abandoned them and sony picked up the spoils of war" - which is exactly whay you are saying. MS dropped the ball here.
But if someone is picking up the Xbox 360, he still has abou...
Actually last gen started quite the opposite: Sony came strong from the PS2 era in JRPGs and action-adventure games (especially platforms), plus they had the ultimate racing franchise, while Microsoft was much stronger in FPS games and Western RPGs.
So both focused on their weaknesses: MS started with some action-adventure and platforming efforts with games like Kameo and Banjo, and at the same time focused heavily on JRPG - in fact the Xbox 360 was the best place for JRPGs u...
I wouldn't call it interesting, merely based on the fact that the writer seems to be pretty clueless, both about the Xbox part in the Entertainment and Devices division, as well as about the actual amount of money it made in the past year.
He's actually basing his entire argument on a single quarter P&L, without being able to distinguish the fact that we're at the beginning of a new product life cycle. It makes about as much sense as telling Google circa 2012 to cut do...
Microsoft already dropped the update fee around last May.
Not that it matters here. It's just a community project without even a contract from Crytek allowing them to actually publish on PC, let alone going through the hoops of console publishing.
As much as the headline excited me, it really turned out a disappointment and I highly doubt it'll see the light of day anytime soon.
Article start:
"With Diablo III finally set to release on ***consoles*** soon, I thought this was a good time to take a look back at all of the best the action RPG genre has to offer this generation."
Article end:
Two PC games not available on consoles this gen.
Well... while more never hurts, I'm much happier to see that Sony pushed for 8 GB RAM over 8 controllers support.
Well, since that statement wasn't event talking about exclusive games - but rather simply games available to play on the show - I'm not sure it's going to win any "exlcusives" argument. There are already far more than 10 games on the PS4 including non-exclusives.
