Agree to a point. Certainly a PRO controller looks a must (of sorts). No d-pad on the controller/s out of the box seems a problem if numerous Indie and Retro games are incoming, such as SFII Ultra (for example). However, I'd argue my base PS4 feels incomplete these days sans PS VR. At roughly £350 that's a chunk.
1080p, Full HD, 4K...
I'd take 720p as the ceiling across all consoles if 60fps was locked and guaranteed. I mean, how many people own a 4K TV?
I don't see it. Mostly down to the lack of a dedicated d-pad.
Gamecube failed nothing. Arguably the best launch lineup of any console to date. Bought Luigi's Mansion, Monkey Ball and Rouge Squadron II...fun, fun, fun.
I could be wrong, but isn't said WiiU footage and early build compared to the more if not complete Switch footage? I'm waiting on Eurogamer do Digital Foundry...
A huge fan of Nintendo here, but, the Wii had Neo Geo games - before they were pulled.
Hey! Listen! I run my WiiU via a Pioneer Plasma which doesn't even do 1080p, let alone 4K. Guaranteed it looks/runs better than ANY emulation and/or most other setups. Why? Because even locked at 720p as I have it, it's about quality, not just numbers. Blacks blacker than black and no input lag with a premium game mode. Fact.
Nintendo, bankrupt? It would take about 10 or more 'flops' consecutively for this ever to even be a consideration. Guaranteed Microsoft leaves the home console market long before Nintendo ever does...mark my words.
NEED!
Not sad at all. Most PS4/XB1 games are forgotten the moment you complete them, best left in the past. The WiiU games you mention will always be worth revisiting. I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. Every WiiU retail title I've wanted I now own. Care to give me your top 5 WiiU games?
The WiiU has easily as many essential games as both PS4 and/or XB1, easy. Yes, perhaps limited generic filler was released in between said essential titles put the chavs off buying a WiiU, but that's their loss, not making it mine. I could give you 20 titles exclusive to the WiiU which could easily be regarded in the top 100 videogames of all time as it stands today.
Actually, it's usually quite the opposite.
Again with the numbers and/or cons. Anybody here play any of the WiiU's stellar games? Anybody (such as myself) who have can testify to the WiiU being anything other than a failure. Quite the contrary in fact. Guaranteed my PS4 gets traded long before (if ever) my WiiU and games ever do.
Nier - while great (I've played the demo myself) - is more flavour of the moment. SMG 1 & 2 will still be the benchmark until Nintendo impossibly surpasses it.
SMG 1 & 2 say hello.
Looks worse than the pixel excellence of the Master System version.
That's an understatement.
While I agree with you - to a point, that's negging it for what it isn't other than what it is. Besides, all the little additionals you mention would raise its price, making it less impulse buy to a lot of shoppers. Personally, I'm just happy the effort put in, both in emulation and accuracy terms.
Not many consoles go out - on what I trust - will be such a high. Nintendo stands apart.
