I agree. This is a day one purchase for me. I think I'm going to play through the game completely before I start trying to make my own levels though!
I think the game itself will probably be fun... but the graphics do look pretty bad!
Not only that, but the online multiplayer sounds like it's going to be truly awesome.
Man, it would really be great if this and GOWIII came out in back to back months. I really wish we'd been given more info on the release of GOWIII at E3! Assuming it makes it in 2009, the PS3 is poised to have another killer year in 09.
You made the point but missed it... LBP appeals to a broader audience... but the PS3 does not yet appeal to a broader audience. The reason MGS4 moved consoles so well is b/c it appeals to the hardcore audience... and at its current price point, the PS3 is still a hardcore machine.
Don't get me wrong, my PS3 is my favorite console; and I'm hoping to buy my cousin one for Christmas (w/ LBP & Resistance 2)... but the PS3 will not be a casual machine until it costs $300 or less. ...
You're right, they didn't HAVE to do much marketing last gen... but they did it very well. I still remember the PS9 commercials when the PS2 first came out... and the Ratchet & Clank commercials were iconic! Sony and it's devs had much better marketing behind them last gen. I think the problem is that this gen so much of their money went into the hardware... there's not much left for marketing.
I think the game is going to be awesome and is definitely a day one purchase for me... However I don't think it will be a hardware seller. This type of game COULD have been a hardware seller if the PS3 was at a mainstream price point, because it is a game that is going to appeal to casuals and hardcores alike... but unfortunately, the PS3's price is not very mainstream yet so I doubt this game will move extra consoles. I do expect it to sell very well amongst its current base though.
Cool, I'll pick up that and Pixel Junk Eden next week.
Me too... I enjoy having a disc version to include in my collection. I wanted to get the blu tooth... but I think I need to save my gaming dollars, especially if this is coming out around the same time as LBP and Bioshock. The PS3 is earning a lot of my 'extra' money this fall/winter!
Same thing I was wondering... has this game been dated yet?
Actually no.... their projections for their Wii game is only .5M. Casual games are the only ones that sell reasonably well on the Wii.
The 2.66M does not include bundles... so yea, it probably is near 5M, or at least 4M. But it also probably wouldn't have sold quite as much w/o the bundle.
Actually, I thought there estimates for Bionic Commando and Re5 were low! I think that BC will easily sell over 1M on both consoles, and RE5 will probably do 3-3.5M combined on both consoles.
I did think that the projections for SFIV was too high though. I know that the series has a large fan base... but I don't think the mainstream will be drawn to it.
The game looks as great as the first one did. Unfortunately, it doesn't look much better... I guess I was just expecting more since it's coming out 2 yrs after the first one? Gears was the sh#t when it first came out b/c there was nothing like it on current consoles... but after the release of Uncharted & MGS4, this footage doesn't look quite as exciting. Still looks like it'll be fun though.
Well the PS2 life cycle has been about 8 years so far. So it came pretty close to 10 yrs as well. When Sony says a 10 yr life cycle, they do not mean that they will wait 10 years to release a new console. They mean that they will continue support of the PS3 until about it's 10th yr... similar to what they're continuing to do with the PS2 now. They have a low end console and a high end system on the market at the same time... both performing well.
The Wii will NEVER have games that rival the graphics of its competitors. That's not the model for Nintendo this gen. I do think that they will be the first to introduce a next gen console though because the Wii will look dated long before the PS3 and 360 do.
Actually it's not that close at all. I don't think we'll see a new console from any of the hardware makers in less than 3 years. And frankly, with the next wave of games I'm seeing on the PS3, the hardware still has so far it can be pushed! I think I'm more interested in seeing what games look like in the next 2 years than the next gen of consoles.
Still... I am interested to see where the next gen of consoles takes us. And what type of decisions the console makers will make base...
Yea, the only thing I like about this one is the use of the three ninja squad during campaign mode... unfortunately that's not enough. The game looks like it's going to suck in so many other areas. The gfx look freaky as hell... can't really get into the experience just b/c of that.
The new PoP has some of the more creative looking graphics so far this gen... that and Valkyrie Chronicles. The graphics for this game do look kind of weird... not really feeling it. I'm sticking with Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm... they nailed the look of the anime!
Hmmm... still looking forward to the game. But what happened?!!! When they first started showing this game it looked so good... now the graphics don't look much more than that of PS2 games. Not trying to bash... coming from Tri-Ace I think it'll be the first great jrpg of this gen. But the graphics are definitely underwhelming :-(
