We are going to start hearing this more and more. And it is not going to be some Sony fanboy ranting about how he thinks that the PS3 version of one multiplatform game or another was reduced in size due to the lack of space on DVD... We are going to be hearing it more and more from the developers themselves who are beginning to realize the benefits of blu-ray, not so much for HD content, but for the amount of space on the media. This is also why HD-DVD was ultimately doomed to failure -- alt...
It's great to see a newspaper that sometimes tends to be too elitist give as stellar a review as the videogame specialty publications. For the NY Times to give GTA4 the same praise as those internet-only sources or videogame magazines that are sometimes seen as for "kids only" is amazing to me. Yes, it was typical NY Times style in that it was verbose and tried too hard to sound intellectual, but the same could be said for any reviews that may pop up on other publications that cat...
You forgot R&C:ToD.... I really liked the way the Sixaxis was implemented in that game, too!
"This entire article is just complete nonsense. The RRoD problem has been practically non existent for around a year."
@Penis - I don't know about that... what about the RRoDs that cropped up at the demo 360s at CES and the other gaming show (I forget which one after CES).
@Sonarus... This will be their THIRD great game... R:FoM, R&C:ToD, and R2.
They are camping out because they know that the media is going to cover this story and they will make the national news! There is no other reason to camp out for a game that you can pre-order from any store that sells video games. Not to mention that there will be plenty on launch day! We are just living in a generation of media whores!
Got my DS3 last night... (along with the Metal Gear Online beta disc)... have to say that it is nice to have rumble back! Plus, the DS3 just seems much more solid than the Sixaxis. It is definitely heavier, as well... and it seems slightly larger... Personally, although I like the Sixaxis, I always felt like it was going to crack in half if I held it too hard.
"Consumers enjoy playing on Live because it is a proven and enjoyable service" and "Apparently consumers around the world have no "issues" paying for this service when some have an alternative that is free but clearly likes the standards that you get with that you cannot get on PSN.
Come on... For the past 7 years, Xbox and Xbox 360 was the only game in town, so people paid...Today, the 360 is competing with the PS3, which was slow out of the gate, but...
What I actually see is for digital downloads to replace video RENTALS. The fact of the mater is that those purchasing videos (hisortically VHS, Laserdisc and most recently DVD) is a smaller part of the market than those renting. The people that buy the DVDs or Blu-ray or HD-DVD do so b/c they want to own it and keep it in their collection. For many, it is bragging rights to have a huge collection of movies. However, as it says in the article, the cost of keeping these huge collections on h...
While I'm sure that the 360 version will outsell the PS3 version (by a 2 to 1 margin? not so sure) due to a larger install base. But, the really important question is: WHICH SYSTEM WILL SELL MORE IN THE WAKE OF GTA4? I think that this is a much tougher question to answer and it will be close, with the PS3 having an advantage due to a built-in fan base of PS2 owners who have been waiting for this game (and other upcoming titles) to upgrade to the PS3.
Yes... VG Chartz is totally unreliable... but, even so, it is amazing that the Wii continues to sell like hotcakes. I just can't figure out where, since it is never in stock when I look! Amazing for a system in such short supply to continue to dominate!
I don't understand why this is an issue in Europe. In the U.S., all multi-platform games are the same price. And the reasoning that blu-ray is causing the price to be higher is simply ridiculous. I thought that the manufacturers (Sony, MS, Nintendo) dictated the pricing. Why is Sony sitting back and letting one chain gouge its customers?
This was on my "To Buy" list, but after so many delays, I just don't know anymore. When it was first announced, there was no competition, but a year later, I just feel like there are so many games coming that I just don't have the time for another FPS unless the average scores are high. Maybe I'll rent it. I wish that the U.S. Gamestop had that same deal that the Canadian Gamestop is doing where you can get it for a week and then trade it in for full credit.
Does anyone know how to link your PSN account with the forums?
Imagine this: MS adds BR drive to the 360 and it causes either the 360 to skyrocket in cost or MS loses huge $$$ on the new "Elite with Blu-ray".... Then, Sony drops its price on the PS3 using MS's money to finance the price drop... Sony wins on both ends b/c they could gain more market share by selling a cheaper PS3 and yet make a profit on the system due to MS's money! Eh, who knows... it is a silly rumor until officially announced.
I cannot believe that the Atari 2600 is not on the list... sure it is graphically inferior to the other systems on the list, but it started the whole home video game craze (not taking the Pong into account)... And the 360 number 1??? Come on, not being a fanboy or anything, but a 2 and a half year old system has no business being #1... it's like the Baseball Hall of Fame which requires 5 years after retirement to up for consideration... FOR A REASON -- you need to see what a player did over t...
Apparently, it is due to framerate issues... however, if you factor in the fact that the 360 version needs DLC to match all of the features on the PS3 version, then maybe you can argue that they should have been given the same score. Either way, it is a minimal difference and it will only make the decision to get The Show even that much more of a no-brainer. I got The Show last night and it is by far the best baseball game... graphically alone, it blows away 2k8.
You know, if any of you have downloaded some of the PSEye games off of PS Store, you can already see the early stages of this technology in use... the camera tracks hand and body movements to move things on the screen... so, I don't know how far off this more advanced applications are.. the big question is: will they use it in innovative ways, or in gimmicky ways like the current motion sensing abilities of the Sixaxis have been used?
I am getting MLB 08: The Show... Interesting that it was completely ignored by this list!
What is interesting is that last year when the 360 versions were getting a .1 or .2 higher score, it was pointed out on every message board about how the PS3 could not match the 360. Now, when the PS3 actually beats the 360 (even by a small amount), the 360 fans all say "they are the same". Well, how about letting those of us who have supported the PS3 since the beginning gloat for a bit about our victory!
