Not desperation because sales or the console aren't bad. People forget that Sony doing better isn't Microsoft doing badly. I would argue "strategic price-reduction" as its purpose is to close the gap between the two and stimulate a sales surge. Sony can (possible still will) outsell them in the meantime, but if the gap closes (or doesn't increase at the same pace) then Microsoft did it's job.
Maybe I'm just old but I remember when a console came with a game from Day 1 and included TWO controllers...
Honestly, the desperate/aggressive things is definitely there (and it's a good thing). PS3 did the same thing early on (not this early though) with MotorStorm and I think Uncharted had a bundle..? Bundles are great (and even Sony has them at the moment, so I'm not sure why some think this is super desperate on Microsoft's side of things)
Indies come out much more often and have a much greater need for exposure (early) so get use to this people.
When retail games get included, they will likely coincide with a sequel or a new game by the same studio.
To be fair, the 5% of the reveal that was bad accounted for 90% of the ensuing internet coverage. There was a lot of good stuff in there, just some big deal-breaker (for many) issues as well (DRM being the huge one, TV focus being annoying if anything and Kinect just being a bitching point for people)
They just need to enable transparent tiles like Windows Phone (make all system apps and allow 3rd party apps to make box clear w/just the icon in the middle)
I honestly don't remember, but didn't MS open up a bunch of satellite studios recently? I think one of them was called LEAP Studios or some-such.
I'm hoping they're doing what you're saying and expanding teams they have. Would be nice for 343i to work on non-Halo stuff, if the team desires, to keep burn-out low. Allow Rare to actively work on 3 things at once, etc.
It would be AMAZING to see every major MS studio releasing a big game per year, as opposed t...
I'm on the fence about the cancellation decision. Obviously, unless it's confirmed we can only assume it was canned because of funding. There's always the possibility I that it was cancelled because the Gameplay wasn't coming together. Art style is only one element.
Back to the fence. On one hand, I think MS needs to take more chances like this and experiment with non-franchise type releases. On the other, Sony has mentioned before that they often lose money on their e...
I think the biggest thing that the author gets wrong is that both companies can offload the TV to other devices as well. MS has anything running a browser (if Xbox Video can be played over the internet like Xbox Music does) and Sony is planning to stream games direct to TV so why not TV shows? I imagine there will be "value packs" when you go all-in (PS+, TV, Music Unlimited) but both don't have to rely on console owners entirely.
Why does a game need to save the console less than 6months in? Lets step back and be reasonable. Both consoles will do fine. PS4 will lead in sales for the next good while. Xbox may never catch up entirely but will do just fine. There's more opportunity for MS to surprise than Sony (Sony has an amazing stable of developers but we generally know what they're going to deliver)
I bought XB1 first myself (use Skype a lot, like the initial announcements much better (Tomb Raider wil...
Best part of these threads: when 1080p/60fps isn't 1080p/60fps enough. Maybe a testament to the fact that it doesn't actually mean anything at all.
Honestly, if Puzzle and Dragons on iPad is providing you more fun than "insert next gen game name here" then it shouldn't matter.
No company is mismanaged enough to intently go out of their way to ruin gaming.
If everyone for one second liked at what was being done then I think the DRM thing would be a whole lot less of a big deal.
Fact - If you buy a disc based game said game is unplayable by anyone else unless they have the disc.
That said, when a company wants to go full digital BUT is aware that people can't download 30gb games through their provider willy-nilly the BEST solution is to ha...
Sony will always have more but doesn't always have best. I have a PS3 and almost exclusively bought exclusives. That said, when I did get around to getting a 360 I realized the fun times I missed out on. Uncharted 1-3 are still my favs of last gen (haven't played Last of Us) but right behind those three are Halo 4, Gears of War 1-3 and Forza despite good times with GT5, Flower and Infamous.
^^^voice of reason
People tend to forget that PSN is where it is today because of first, playing catch-up followed by superseding XBL in the first place. Last gen XBL had the slight edge (why PS+ exists) and now it's tables-turned and Sony's ball for MS to try and steal.
Could this be that they are redeeming it almost 2 months after Day One? I'm just taking the article for face value but if these digital day one things were only available for purchase during the first two weeks of system availability then one has to assume these people (allegedly) sat on the DLC for over a month and are just now trying to unlock content that, for all intent and purposes, they should have redeemed the second they downloaded the game itself.
If this is tied to a ph...
I have an active steam account...solely for Humble Bundle games... that I never play because I barely pay for them anyway. Most people I know with Steam who aren't already hardcore PC people have it for playing random stuff they would never pay full price for. 3 million full price paying people versus 65 million who wait until 80% off sales (some percentage of anyway) is better for the industry IMO.
Am I the only one who thinks using Steam user numbers is grossly overestimating how many people actively use Steam at all? I'm all for PC gaming for those who can afford it and benefit from it, however I'm surely not the only person with a Steam account who exclusively buys one in every five Humble Bundles and then proceeds to play 30min combined of each bundle (usually bought for one or two games). All I'm saying is that there's a demographic within that number that merely bu...
Just to stir shit up; How many "on the Sony side" would believe every word out of Phil's mouth had he still been at Sony? For a while he was their guy. He didn't leave in a negative fashion, but I largely see people discounting what he says based on who he works for. Same guy people. I believe him if he says there's some interesting stuff coming up for Xbox. I'm pretty sure he said the same kinds of things leading up to LBP, and that turned out well.
You don't know a lot about technology if you believe that...
It has yet to be implemented in gaming, sure, but it's been out there for a while. Hell, Folding@Home was a form of cloud computer and that was doing some serious number crunching.
Not totally true. Gaikai relies on a program running somewhere and the stream being sent to your screen at home. That's why there has been lag on Gaikai services since inception. You're playing, essentially, someone else's hardware remotely. Azure, and the way the Xbox is built with the eSRAM, will process information THEN compressed on the eSRAM and deployed from there. The hardware is built to function with the cloud. That's why MS is insisting that slow connections won'...
They did. I got Halo: Spartan Assault, Max: The Curse of Brotherhood, Guacamole! Super Turbo Championship Edition, Crimson Dragon, Strike Suit Zero, Super Time Force and Chariot all for free with my Live subscription. People who purchase for a discounted price today don't get to download those for free. And these bundles are Kinect-less so I got extra hardware (that I use frequently)
