Correct in one sense: this was the easy part. The other shoe drops when they announce a delay to 2Q14. That's why they're getting this out of the way now.

Ha ha, called it :)

Some of you need to go back and re-read their statements on the wonderful benefits of always-connected, the infinite power of the cloud, etc. Shame on you for defending & believing it. Double-shame if you still buy the Xbox180, after seeing where they're gonna go at the first opportunity.

Wait for it... here it comes...
Xbox 180

So, Steam forces a daily check or your games stop working?

4654d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

I cant imagine publishers are going to be happy about the potential for 90% lost sales. Seems to me this "family" concept was hurriedly announced before they'd thought it thru, and I expect they'll walk it back soon.

Does iTunes force your iPod to connect daily, or your music won't play?

4654d ago 1 agree1 disagreeView comment

Yeah, nice. I guess it's a lot easier to click a bunch of "disagree" buttons than it is to make a substantiated argument.

People deserve everything they're going to get if they buy into this garbage. Say hi to Milo in the cloud for me.

Do you realize that MS is simply adding up all the VIRTUAL servers that make up their existing Azure platform? Or do you think they're out there building huge data centers with 300,000 physical servers - and all that rack/power/cooling - just for your Xbox game?

4659d ago 2 agree1 disagreeView comment

Yes, MS really IS lying to you to sell more stuff. That IS their reputation. Read some of the technical debunkings out there on this cloud nonsense, and read some of MS's own vague comments about how something "might" work in some limited way. And then ask them to show you something actual.

Or, just believe it, because you're so emotionally invested in Xbox that you'll believe anything as long as they give you a new Halo every couple of years. They&#...

Do any of you even think through what you're saying logically, even if you don't understand the technology?

Folding at Home: Here, work on this packet of data for several hours, then forward the results back to me.

Gaikai: Run each player's game on a SINGLE, dedicated virtual server, and just send him the compressed audio/video and read his controller inputs.

NEITHER of these are cloud services. One is distributed processing, t...

@Foxgod: Ha! I call BS - as someone with 20+ years in systems/networking. If you know ANYTHING about "cloud", you know it simply can't work from a logical - let alone technical - standpoint, for videogames.

Give me one example of a cloud workload today which is latency sensitive, as in a video game. They can say "offload a lighting model or large-world geometry", but what about the player who doesn't have a speedy connection? Instead of the annoy...

Maybe your "fans" aren't the only ones you should be listening to. Just a thought.

Well, at least that statement is consistent with the obvious contempt Microsoft has for its customers. If you think they're stupid enough to suck down whatever you dish out, why wouldn't you also insult them as "afraid" if they dare to question?

How about this: change your pricing, and offer a less expensive console with free online play; change the fundamentally flawed security model in your perpetually patched OSes; change your astroturf marketing tactic...

It's not simply that people "prefer discs"; many of us prefer the highest fidelity audio/video available when watching a movie, without annoying interruptions, lossy compression, another paid service, etc.

@Godmars290: "They've overestimated online stability and availability".

Exactly, just as they know full well they're doing the same again with all the grandiose cloud-and-mirrors claims. The whole Toshiba moneyhat and &qu...

This is obviously going to be wildly successful. At creating the sort of confusion and vague excitement which it was intended to, based on many of the comments here. It's the new Milo and Kate.

Flash your lighter at the natives, and they'll treat you like a god because they don't understand that there's no magic behind it.

There's a big difference, but I can understand the confusion a lot of people are going to have. With a service like OnLive, your game is running on a single remote system, and it's piping compressed audio/video to you, and reading your controller inputs. That's completely different than saying "Hey, you 1000 anonymous servers out there, work on this bunch of calculations and return the results to me - I'll wait, so I can include the data in what I have to prepare for fi...

This is total bunkum. That's not flaming, just fact. I understand that everyone throws around the term "cloud" these days without knowing what it means, including lots of IT folks. There's no way you're going to see games use cloud resources for anything even remotely time sensitive - lighting, graphics, AI, etc. The amount of programming overhead it'll take to parse, pass, and receive discrete work units simply won't make sense. A dedicated server based gam...

Serious question to Xbox fans: do you really believe that they're going to let you just cover up Kinect if you don't want it staring at your junk 24/7? This is WHY it's mandatory.
Their content and advertising partners have a big woody for this stuff, and only you/we can kill it right now by voting with dollars. Seriously, go and actually read "1984" if you haven't.
