So, the strategy backfires as sales in every other country slow to zero, as potential customers decide not to throw away money before an imminent price cut?
Microsoft just issued another statement to deny that the previous denial of desperation is itself even more desperate. More to follow.
Translation: "PLEASE don't believe this, because we don't want our sales to plummet to zero. If everyone decides to wait for the cheaper one, our market share and finances for the division will be even more screwed."
"BTW: Please DO keep believing what you read on the internet about Xbone having great technology, the best games, being the fastest selling console, etc."
Well, this is obviously the last time they'll be able to fall back on this particular spin; it's gonna get a lot harder when they have to explain full months. You can practically write next month's press release already: "Xbone has seen incredible response in all markets, and exceeded all of our forecasts, with over a gajillion bad guys killed, and over a bazillion hours logged online, enabled by a godzillion transistors."
Just in case some of you don't know, there's a long tradition of manufacturers limiting product supply to create a shortage, thereby claiming high demand. Especially during the holidays, when there's a cachet to having the toy that everyone is trying to get. Not saying that's the case here, but longer term sales totals are the only way to see thru the PR spin.
Did this download automatically for anyone? I have my PS4 set to auto-update in standby, but I had to manually initiate this. Wondering if it's a question of server load, and it may have just required more time for them to push it out to a million consoles.
This is good news, but a couple of concerns. It's only been a few days, and Sony has said that the issues can't be pinned down to one specific cause, which I'm inclined to agree with. The things I've seen personally seem to be more software/firmware related.
So, they either haven't pinned down a cause, and want the returned units for more testing, or perhaps they became aware of issues late in the distribution, and have known good units ready for replace...
Dudes, chillax a bit. I make no secret of being a Sony fan, and wouldn't touch an Xbone. But the PS4 does have a few glitches. I've had the eject problem once so far, and display & power down problems. Let Sony gather the data & hopefully issue a fix. This constant speculation of .01% vs. 50% is useless. I suspect that a large number of problems stem from (1) hdmi sync issues (flashing blue light), and (2) ppl yanking the power cord cuz they don't realize it can take...
LMAO at the people who are so emotionally invested in Xbox that they refuse to acknowledge what an obvious bag-o-hurt this console is.
So, the system is perfectly balanced, with 300% more power from the cloud, and is not under powered in any way? And they're increasing clock speed, and decreasing system overhead, all to provide even MORE power?
Sorry, it's getting hard to keep up with all the spin.
Um, yeah, +1 here. Doesn't Sony own the IP, meaning they could have anyone develop it?
Warhawk was beautifully balanced and utterly addictive. Never picked up Starhawk because they lost me with dropping buildings from the sky.
Please Sony, it'd be very simple: create an actual sequel that keeps the great gameplay, and start printing money for yourselves.
In other words, the system consumes 28 times as much power as standby mode, just so you can say "Xbox on", then still reach for the remote to turn on your TV, sound system, etc. 14 Watts is a lot of power to consume 24x7, just for that single feature, and I wouldn't be surprised if they're low-balling this estimate. But we knew this - in order to be running voice recognition software, you've gotta have access to CPU, memory, at least a basic OS, and the mic has to be o...
Xbone has a TV tuner? Article fail.
Another self-serving non-apology, which just perpetuates the problem. "We didn't do anything wrong, other than communicate poorly."
These guys don't get it, and never will.
They need to seriously just stop talking. "That really was an absolutely amazing feature...that we took away." smdh
Like all the other nonsense, they still haven't explained exactly WHY this is necessary. This isn't a "patch", as they're not even manufacturing systems yet, and can include whatever changes in the final system. More likely, this is yet another stealth DRM they don't want to fully explain. I've lived in countries where, believe it or not, people still game even if they don't have internet. Like I said, the box better have a big red warning label so consum...
How did this get approved without "Rumor:" in the title?
Don't give page hits.
That's silly. They're nowhere near manufacturing retail consoles yet.
I sure hope this system comes with a big red warning label: "Internet connection required for activation". Seems that consumers should be made clearly aware of this before purchase.
Stop listening!
