I bought an 80GB from Best Buy a month ago. The Blu-ray drive quit on it, so I took it back a few days ago and they were totally out of the 80GB. I took a 40GB refurb instead, with the express understanding (in writing) that if an 80GB comes in I can bring the 40GB back (even if it's past the 30 days) for another exchange.
...at this point, I think the next 80 gig Best Buy gets will likely be the Metal Gear bundle, so I may be in luck, though I'll have to wait until June and be s...
Why can't you stand him now? He's done great work for the PS3, and now he can do great work for Atari. In fact, given his unparalleled insight into the mechanics of the PS3, Atari may turn around and become a PS3-first gaming company. Another developer doing AAA work for the PS3 and thinking beyond, to the future of "network gaming" is not a bad thing.
Well, "best games" is a matter of opinion. I disagree that the 360 has better games, but that's my personal view, and it will differ from person to person. That's fine, that's why two consoles can exist in this world.
...the PS3 does, however, have the best hardware - and will soon rock the 360 world with vastly superior optional media capabilities. That much is fact, and can be banked.
Atari and Infogrames are big brand names - and if anyone can help revive them, Phil can. Titles like Neverwinter Nights, Driver, Enter the Matrix, Unreal Tournament 2004... they've had a few hits and good ideas in the past, but they obviously need a fresh and innovative leadership team.
They need to get the developers pumped up and excited again. Atari can't rest on Dragon Ball Z for the remainder of eternity.
I think the PS3 is on the right track to compete with the 360. MS's decision to not include a standard HDD and standard Blu-ray or HD-DVD optical drive will continue to hurt them as games get larger and more complex... not to mention the hardware failure rate.
...anything the PS3 does now to add value (in-game XMB, Home, improved PS Store, PlayTV, and of course - more games) will only sweeten the pot for prospective buyers. Now add a possible price cut to the list.

Recoil looks a bit steampunk'ish... and sounds like it may be built similarly to Gears Of War (using Unreal technology in 3rd person action style). The Damnation game looks a bit more like an industrial set, sci-fi western... and appears to also be more of an action game like Uncharted or Gears.
They're both ideas which show some promise, though it's very hard to tell with such limited information. I hope they're exclusive to the PS3, but I guess we'll need to wait and see.
Seriously. You can't tell me it costs more than $1 to manufacture these things. I'd even be willing to pay $4 or $5 for them, but $10?
LIES!
Not necessarily. Most MMO beta testers know that one of the final stages of beta testing is the server stress test... getting everyone online to see how a load will affect the system. Perhaps this means we're closer rather than further away.
Always good to have like minds working together... so I gave you a bubble.
Not as bad as the Euro update, but still - not spectacular. I'm hoping they're holding off on providing stellar content because they're busy working on improving the interface, and the content will come naturally after that.
...I hope.
You can actually get a great gaming system for the cost of a console, so the high price argument only applies for hardcore gamers who need THE BEST everything. I'm a PC gamer first and foremost - but lately I've found myself drawn in to my PS3 more and more because it's just more comfortable to play from the couch. The console is a part of the media/entertainment system, which is where I'm usually located when I want to access media/be entertained. The PC is becoming the productivity tool.
The SIXAXIS is a great feature of the controller... I love using it in Warhawk for flying (turn it off for ground though) and I loved it in Heavenly Sword for directing arrows. It's also got some pretty cool uses in Uncharted. I think that as more developers become accustomed to the development process of the PS3, we'll start seeing more developers using the SIXAXIS in interesting ways.
...in my opinion, it's one of the great features that separate the PS3 from the 360.
They had a walk-away clause in their contract.
Well, I'm impressed that they're sticking to their guns and waiting for Toshiba to give the go ahead. That's some loyalty right there... good for Dreamworks, although considering it's inevitability - Toshiba really should reciprocate and let them go peacefully.
This is awesome news, and the last bit of information I wanted to hear before nailing down my decision to purchase a PlayTV box.
What I like to do is record a show and then, for some shows, save the whole season before I watch it. I would rather not buy a special hard drive for my PS3 to do it, but move those to my PC (over the network) and let them accumulate there for later viewing.
Perfect.
Yeah - I'm not trying to be standoffish or to imply that Home is going to be for everyone, just that it will nurture a wider sense of community than is available currently, and give people a place to meet other players (virtually face-to-face) and share stuff. That's desperately needed on the PS3, but the best part is that it's optional.
Does the Xbox 360 need something similar? No. It would likely go over well, and would satisfy a similar need, but a Virtual World like this w...
Home is based on the idea of the MMO - which are vastly popular game types these days (look at WoW or SWG in its prime). Many people love the idea of logging in and keeping a persistent character that they can improve upon over time. It might not be for everybody, but the catch here is that you won't need to use it if you don't want to. It's entirely free, and entirely optional.
I think the MMO fans who own a PS3 will check it out (I know I will) and it does look pretty slick....
It's not a shortage - they've discontinued the current 80GB SKU. There are no plans that I'm aware of to release another 80GB until that Metal Gear bundle comes out in June.
