The difference is that Blu-ray is actually true high definition. If I wanted a compressed HD experience, I'd download it using bittorrent and stream it via my PS3.

The weight difference in the left and right rumble controller seems strange to me. I know the weight difference simply holding the device don't be affected much, but when it rumbles - won't the left side out-rumble the right? I hope not. Not sure I get the technical reasoning behind this.

I love the OTS cam - somehow I find TPS games just a little easier than FPS games on a console, though I know many of your SOCOM purists will prefer the first person view. The graphics look very nice as well, so I think this will be a pre-order for sure.

I'd love it if this were true, but this story is ridiculous. A true high definition experience is not a compressed file that ends up being 2 or 4GB. A true 1080P high definition movie is upwards of 20GB, and when I see a 20GB movie being downloaded in 15 minutes... you can sign me up. Especially if there's no cap on that.

Sadly, that's just not the case here. We're talking about heavily compressed files here. Don't tell me you can't see the difference. If you can't - you likely s...

Splinter Cell is the poor mans MGS... and it pales.

Yeah, looks that way. The 360 has Gears2 and Too Human, the rest don't really appeal to me - and I know Gears2 will eventually make its way to my PC. Still can't find a reason to buy a 360 - at least not yet.

I'd likely replace LO with Mass Effect or Heavenly Sword. Say what you will about HS, but I thought it was great gaming. Bioshock was visually appealing (love the steampunk) with an intriguing story, but the gameplay itself was a bit generic.

What I've read and what I'm told is... yes. The 100GB quad-layer disc exists and is readable from a standard BD drive like that in the PS3, so we could see it before too long. I also understand that current examples of 200GB and 250GB BD discs (which also exist) require special optics, so the PS3 wouldn't be able to use those without a hardware upgrade.

"MS will never allow a multiplatform game be released on multiple discs for the 360 and on a single disc for the PS3"

...which is why we may see more serious developers doing more PS3 exclusives a year from now, when the PS3 is slightly more entrenched.

Compression.

...and actually, they have a 100GB quad-layer disc ready to go that will use standard BD-ROM drives. Think it may just require a firmware update.

I find it amazing. I know it's a less costly console by comparison, and that they are still supporting it, so I would expect the PS2 to sell *some* units. To outsell? Crazy.

I don't think they're boasting so much about the size of their game, but rather about their privilege to be able to develop a game that could utilize that kind of space. Microsoft doesn't want multi-disc games for the 360, so this is a PS3 selling point. It's also going to continue to attract developers who see it as liberating.

You can certainly argue that quality is not directly related to quantity. Look at Tetris, or for a more modern example, look at fl0w. In fact, look at most flash games on the web. These are simple games, and are typically tons of fun.

That's a pretty extreme example, however. Take Ratchet & Clank. It's a pretty simple game, mostly. I mean, it's not hard core in the way that Gears Of War or Halo or Resistance or MGS are hard core. Still, Insomniac was able to take advantage of...

Don't forget, Insomniac also used 22GB of the 25GB Blu-ray for Ratchet & Clank Future. They're taking advantage of this extra space. We may need that quad-layer 100GB Blu-ray disc before we know it, or better yet, TDK's experimental 200GB Blu-ray disc. :)

EDIT: Hrmm... being phantom-disagreed with. Meh, whatever.

You hit the nail on the head. These are exactly the reasons I feel that digital downloads won't take off at the present time, at least not with the majority of the high-def watching public. Most of my family members who own an HDTV are not going to download movies, they don't even know the proper definition of "download". They buy stuff, and rent stuff to watch.

As for the MP3 argument - that's kind of different. An MP3 takes a few seconds to download. A true high de...

Most of them are virtually the same, but the Xbox 360 again looks like someone cranked the contrast too high (for my liking) and the skin tones look washed out. I'm normally on the fence about these comparisons, but for this one my two cents is - the PS3 looks better.

...not that I plan to buy it anyways.

The far... far future. But if you want to download 20GB movies, be my guest. You'll be in the minority.

I'm forced to browse (under certain circumstances) with IE6, and it's funny - because comments don't show up until I scroll past them and then scroll back up. Very odd. Stupid IE6.

But @home it's always Firefox. Can't wait for Mozilla to release the final FF3 build.
