My ISP caps my bandwidth, as do many cable providers. I get 100GB UL/DL per month, and that's a premium service. These HD movies are 20GB on the small end. I could use my internet connection for regular stuff, or download 5 movies a month, and not use it for anything.
I'll stick with Blu-ray for my HD content, thanks - unless my ISP wants to remove my cap at no extra cost, and give me a download speed that wouldn't take two days per movie.
Listen - the issue at hand has nothing to do with which system has better graphics or processing power, it's about development time. The PS3 is a more complicated system to develop for - it has a more elaborate system. Therefore, it takes longer. It's easier, like the quote says, to dev for the PS3, then port to the 360 for that very reason.
Why is this good? It's good because more devs will take more time to learn the PS3 method of developing games and using the multiprocessing...
This is the best part...
"Virtually every third-party publisher is now developing for the PS3 first. 'They all are now, since it's just easier,' he told GameSpot."
...oh, snap.
Bigger audience on PSN (it's free, and there are more PS3's being sold than 360's)... mean the potential for higher royalties, and ones you get to keep. With Sony announcing the free PhyreEngine, there's no reason not to go this way now.
It's not quite what everyone has been saying. I've read rumours that it's "VERY VERY VERY close" and that it would be shown at GDC, but this also tells me the public beta will begin during GDC (at least that's how I read it) and we'll get to see how in-game XMB works.
I agree. Trophies, Medals, Badges, Kudos - anything is better than Accomplishments, which sounds a little too close to Achievements anyways.
Home is where the hard drive is.
I IS EXCITED!
PC and Mac, not sure about the Wii.
I personally won't be buying any more DVD's - only Blu-ray. So for me, yes, it was 100% worth it.
...the question is not whether it's better or not, but whether it offers a SIGNIFICANT and necessary difference from the existing technology.
Downloads are good, but physical media will always win. Blu-ray is going to get a toehold on the market starting right about now. Within a year, they'll be entrenched - much like DVD is now. It will take a massive change in requirements (like the desire to go from SD to HD) to get the public to switch again. It will happen, but I'm guessin...
Well, I have read that Sony Magazine confirmed a PSP-style phone from Sony-Ericsson, so I don't think the concept is a rumor, just the Stuff magazine mockup. Considering that Sony already has a PSP, and has their hands in the mobile phone world with their successful Sony-Ericsson line, it wouldn't be a stretch to unite the two brands.
Ummm... I know this comes from an Australian source, but Microsoft is based in Redmond, WA - where it's still the weekend, and decisions like this typically don't get made on weekends, let alone announced. This is wild speculation. Though it admittedly would make good sense for the 360 to have a BD drive, I can't see Sony giving up their Blu-ray edge just yet.
Upscaling from 720p to 1080p is not that bad. Even upscaling 480 is not that bad, as long as it's a digital signal. I'd hate to have bought a TV that doesn't do 1080p since the victory of Blu-ray means I can start buying discs for my PS3 now.
To hell with the iPhone, I'll stick with my RAZR thanks. Still, if the PSPhone is real, and this mockup does look pretty hot, I would consider it.
It would have to have flash memory in place of the UMD, not "look" like a gaming machine, and be available without having to sign up for a plan (use it wifi) and with availability through Virgin Mobile for me to care about it. :)
Normally - a company says they're gonna do a console MMO, I shrug. NCSoft does some pretty sweet stuff though, and if anyone can make it happen - it's NCSoft and Sony. CoH/V was good. Guild Wars, though not my cup of tea, was well executed. Tabula Rasa is awesome, and Aion looks awesome.
...this could be great for the PS3.
"We were positively surprised by how efficient the SPUs (the Cell processing units) were to do such things as run our vegetation simulation, our animations or our physics systems."
That statement denotes that, yes, while they had to do quite a bit of R&D to get to know the system, they were happy about it's capabilities and feel they can now easily make the port. The issue here is that developers need to spend some time learning it - and they don't want to, becaus...
Fantastic! Another exclusive heading to the PS3!
We'll have to wait until GDC to get a clearer picture of the game's direction, of course - but sci-fi shooter, rpg, and tactical all make me think this could be something intriguing - not just another mindless FPS.
@Honeal2g
I like the PS3 controller much better than the 360 controller for one major reason - the symmetry. I find the offset analog sticks more difficult to use (in FPS games).
Downloading a .AVI compressed at 700kbps and sized down to 800MB is not what we're talking about here. If you want true 1080P HD content, you'll be downloading 20GB files.
A) Takes too long.
B) Takes too much bandwidth for most people.
C) No physical media - and folks like physical media.
P2P is not the answer for HD content.
