I could imaging being told to "focus on ports" to get games out asap, but doesn't mean "only make ports the 1st year."
Not to mention that ports could entail new/recent titles as well. Not just new IPs or entries or exclusives.

Sony hasn't really mentioned the Vita at all in 2-3 years with the exception of Japanese press conferences, and even then, it's been 3rd parties.

To be honest, those issues could be caused by just about anything. Data corruption during download, power surge during install, people lying, or Nintendo's update is at fault. Just because it's out on shelves early doesn't always mean it can be sold. I've had the store system at various retailers refuse to sell a game since the release dates were hard coded. On the other hand, I've been able to buy some stuff early too.
Considering that SanDisk is one of the founding members of the format, I'm pretty sure they are reliable.

This story mimics exactly what I saw last month when I was there. Switches can be found, just not new and priced higher than new. I was at a shop in Shinjuku right when they got a shipment of Splatoon 2 systems, and that line (confirmed purchasers) was 30-40 people long.
actually picked this up last week in Tokyo (prefer physical over digital, didn't want to wait til the end of the month) for roughly $38 US.Too bad my Switch was still in the US and I just haven't had time to play it since I've been back.
I wouldn't say the Vita is dead.... just that SCEA doesn't really care.... Not sure about SCEJ, but sony hasn't had any 1 party titles in forever. 3rd parties seem to care at least.
bad idea period.... if you tend to keep your games and try to revisit years later, then it becomes a pain
