While the great enemy AI certainly sounds promising, the article didn't go into detail to explain just how the AI would be better. Just because "higher level" brutes will shout meaningless orders like "covering fire" during combat doesn't actually mean the AI will be better (as countless other games have already shown...Killzone 1 being one of them).
Given that Halo 2 had dumber enemies than Halo 1, and even the AI in Halo 1 did stupid things which could hav...
Yes I played Odin Sphere, I'm the one who wrote the review I linked, and many people have told me that they agree with it; Odin Sphere is not as universally loved as it seems. Furthermore, if you look at reviews from mainstream publications like IGN and 1up...hell even non-game magazines like Otaku USA, they score the game below an 8.0. Yeah, the graphics and story were alright, but the gameplay was just crappy button mashing and stat-farming. There are much better RPG's out there.

Am I the only one who's tired of hearing journalists compare the game to the 2005 trailer? I never thought the 2005 E3 trailer was that impressive to begin with, and furthermore, I don't freaking care how good the cutscenes look, show me some freaking gameplay!
Secondly, this game is getting way too much attention simply by virtue of the system its on. Ultimately, I don't care whether the game is on 360 or PS3, as long as its a good game. As far as the gameplay goes, it doesn't...
Well, these arguments are completely stupid, but environments in the game look the environments in my paintings:

So, as far as I'm concerned the game looks awesome either way.
Not the most well written article, but a decent retrospective on the 2D-3D transition. I particularly liked seeing the screenshot from the early N64 beta of FFVII, with Locke, Shadow, and Terra in 3D, which I hadn't seen since the last time I looked at a GamePro, circa 1996.
However, to be honest, 2D is becoming highly over-rated in today's gaming culture. Like CV: Symphony of the Night, or Final Fantasy VI, 2D is one of those "Sacred Cow" phenomena that you aren't al...
At the same time that EGM scored Lair low, they scored Blue Dragon low too, which was a 360 game. They also scored Heroes of Mana extremely low in the same issue, for DS. There was no bias there, you dumbass fanboy.
Also, Nasim, if you're going to bash 1up for scoring Bioshock a 10, you're going to have to bash Game Informer and IGN, who gave the game a 10 and a 9.7 respectively. In fact, the lowest score the game has gotten from anyone is a 9.4, so eat it.
There is way too much emphasis on graphics in the gaming media these days...to the point that it's all most journalists bother to talk about unless they're doing a review, and then they still spend half of the review or more talking about how the game looks. Games looking good these days is a given, developers, journalists, and gamers alike need to get over it and focus on more pressing matters.
The amount of fanboy trolling (on all sides) on this site is sad and ridiculous.
"I continue to be disappointed that folks on the internet treat any positive thing we say about one platform as some sort of critique of another platform. We're a multi-platform company folks please come to grips with that."
LOL, that's all anyone does on N4G.
He spent the entire video talking about graphics and art direction, which are practically the same thing, and then made a comment at the end to equate good art direction with good gameplay. Sorry, fail.
Actually, I did implement it as a mod for Halo 2:

To bad we're stuck with the same old for Halo 3.
On the contrary, that was the whole point of the article, that AI in games is not much better than in Doom 3, in which it was poor. Halo, HL2, and FEAR have slightly better AI, but only marginally so; they should be a lot better. Things like taking cover, climbing over obstacles, or basic flanking are very simple things which should not be considered state of the art, and yet they are.
Having personally edited Halo's AI via modding, I can tell you that Halo's AI is full of stup...
I find this funny since when the EGM Blue Dragon score was announced no one on N4G wanted to believe it was real.
http://n4g.com/NewsCom-5532...
Despite claims that it was a hoax, the EGM came out, and the scores were exactly as rumored. I read it. Hah.
Now IGN reviews the game and no one's still around crying "omg its fake" and "BD is a triple AAA game for sure"...
Halo 1 and 2 more balanced than any other game? Not really, in terms of balance, the Halo series has nothing on anything from the Quake or Unreal franchise...particularly given the issues it's struggled with in each iteration.
The BR does the job, but it's nothing to rejoice about; it could be better.
And the new AR only seems so great because the old AR was the least balanced, least effective, and overall crappiest weapon Bungie ever made. The new AR is essentia...
There's a special part of the article dedicate to that argument:
"4) The Carbine is already single-shot."
Scroll down and read it. In short, it needs a slower fire rate and higher damage per hit, otherwise it's just glorified bullet spam, just like the BR.
It's like George Carlin complaining about white guys that shave their heads; "you wanna be bald? do what I did, wait a while!"
This article isn't getting as much attention as it deserves, maybe I should drum some up by talking trash about MS, Sony, and Nintendo?
...my favorite gimmick in those catalogs are the electric nose-hair trimmers.
Actually, I have another article on the future of FPS discussing better AI. I'll probably post that tommorow or something.
What we really need is not an FFVII remake, but a new FF done right. The series has been a bit hit-or-miss since VII, but ever since X, SE has been totally screwing around with us.
FFX-2 = crappy Charlie's Angels spoof
FFXI = an multiplayer MMO that has nothing to do with main line FF titles
FFXII = a glorified battle system demo with lame characters/story and flawed (but innovative) combat/scenarios
Aside from the lame homogeneous main characters e...
