If I lose my CD for Doom or Quake I can just get it off of steam instead of searching for some old copy on Amazon or ebay.
...I agree it's too bad Quake's dieing out in favor of newer titles, but I would rather pay $50 for a well-executed Quake 5 than get Quake 3 for free (particularly since I've already played the game for over 8 years and own 2-3 copies of the game).
That's funny because where I hang out on 1up.com I see the most maliciousness coming from PS3 fanboys. Granted, there is maliciousness and stupidity on all sides, but no other section of the gaming community has thrown around a term like "Wii60 fanboy" which basically alleges that owning ANY other console than the PS3 is a sin.
If you don't think Halo 2 is broken, well that's a whole 'nother can of works unto itself, so I'm not going to go into it. Here's some links to get you started:

Also, this entry from my blog pretty much sums up how I feel about the balance of the entire ...
The overall problem with Killzone's multiplayer was the excessive use of all types of explosives. Hand grenades did take a little more skill than the rest of them, but the cannons, rocket and grenade launchers (particularly the ones with 3-6 shots capacity before reloading) took little skill to use and allowed you to just stand out in the open blowing people away left and right.
If you actually tried to use stealth, crouch behind cover and make precision shots with your rifle, ...
Yes, Killzone's bullets still move slightly faster than paintballs.
Which comparisons would you be speaking of? I spent months with both Killzone 1's campaign and multiplayer analyzing the game and making criticisms and suggestions on Guerrilla's forums that the vast majority of n00bish morons playing the game couldn't be bothered to notice, and I know all of the statements about Killzone 1's mechanics to be true, so it would appear that you are misinformed and incorrect.
Also, the joke about Call of Duty 5 clearly went over your head.
Also, IGN had hands-on impressions as well. It's regrettable that those articles were not spotted, but the point was that by simply having some experience with the previous game and paying attention to anything shown in the trailers beyond the cut scenes, important features of the game can be pointed out. Every mainstream gaming site should have been able to do this, and yet you had previews that essentially just said "at least the graphic are real this time, lol".
The point was that despite the fact that every major mainstream gaming website is hyping Killzone 2 as one of the top titles on PS3, and all of them saw the trailer and reported it, the majority couldn't even be bothered to say anything about it besides "it looks good" ie; 1up and Gamespot. The total disregard this shows for the importance of gameplay in making a good game is alarming.
Looks great, but videos were out for FFT last christmas.
Of course 360 vs PS3 is going to come into conversation here (like does with EVERY topic on this site) but don't make it worse by making unprovoked attacks.
Halo was renowned for its balance? The entirety of Halo 1's balance was hinged on a single over-powered weapon, and Halo 2 multiplayer was practically broken. Yes, the Halo series has had much stronger balance than other console shooters (which is sad) but what really contributed to it's multiplayer success was it's pace; it had the features of a PC FPS (like Quake multiplayer) but it was slowed down to a pace feasible for console controls.
They have a month left to finish the game yet the AI is still highly buggy and doesn't seem to know what to do? Sure they'll probably work out the bugs by release, but to impress me the game would need superior enemy AI to what we saw in Halo 2; hopefully an improvement over Halo 1 even. The fact that the AI is still so buggy so late in the development cycle seems to indicate that it was a low priority and Bungie was primarily just focused on story and visuals of campaign rather than the game...
The mod community for UT1 was a huge deal, but it was much smaller for UT2k3 and 2k4, and these days games are just too resource-intensive and most mods never make it off the ground, it's just too hard. Sure, there might be one or two good community map packs for UT3, but it won't be like it was in 1999. So, I don't think mod functionality is that important for the console versions...it's more trouble than it's worth.
I was a big Marathon fan back in the day and spent hours making mods in forge. That said, I think Doom holds up better; having computer terminals tell you to push switches and find keycards is not any more fun than just finding them yourself.
Even though I play Halo, it still feels retarded in a very literal sense compared to UT. Going from UT to console shooters is like going from a Lamborgini Diablo to a kids' tricycle.
I doubt they will slow it down for the PS3 version; there's already been talk of being able to play cross-platform online between the PC and PS3 versions. If you slow it down, you can't do that any more.
Furthermore, slowing the game down would completely change the balance of the game, and essentially break it unless they designed the game to be slowed to console speeds from the ground up...like Unreal Championship 2.
As a result, I think there's a good chance c...
"We had people stop at two points: one group stopped playing Far Cry when the mutants appeared, and the second at the end level. The end was too difficult and the design was pretty much 'throw as much as possible in here'"
Yeah, that was me. I quit pretty soon after the mutants came in.
I haven't seen scans, but I fully believe they don't like Blue Dragon at EGM, as James Mielke (an EGM writer) slammed it on his blog back when the japanese version was released.

Read it.
He is a large imposing asian man, so I wouldn't be surprised if he bullied the rest of the Ziff Davis staff into giving Blue Dragon low scor...
A ton of effort would need to be put into Q3's controls to be playable on console. As it is, the freaking sequel to Quake 4 failed as an online title for that reason...even UT3 could face problems do to inadequate controls.
Also, I could fire up Q3 on PC and play any time I want, so I don't see how this benefits me.
