This especially stuck out to me:

"My feelings are that gaming sites, as well as printed publications, will now start to air their dirty laundry in an effort to proactively defend themselves, and REASSURE readers that they are on the up and up."

Sounds like pure political bullcrap to me. That's the direction things are heading it seems. Riddle me this. Should gaming journalism really be at odds with the industry that they're covering? It would be like a ...

but it sounds hard to pull off. So it's a hybrid TPS/FPS, but then the characters are all secret agents...where does the stealth part come in?

In my head I'm imagining hundreds of players belonging to either faction(some double agents) shooting the hell out of each other across a huge city block or in an immense headquarters building.

We'll see how it turns out though, it could be cool, and the PSP and Home integration is always a plus.

I see the trolls are at it already. One of the first comments under the announcement, lol.

Anyway, I'd prefer Darth Maul over Vader. He's much more agile, and because of that seems like he'd be a better fit for SC.

Either way, these are both really cool announcements. I can't remember Yoda ever being playable in a fighter before, so that's definitely a plus.

I don't really like that little quip "knew what they were getting into". That isn't good enough for me if I spent dropped a grand into a player over a year ago. There should be some kind of retroactive warranty or replacement plan. Sure they're not the majority, but alienating...or shafting any part of your userbase is not good for business.

Co-signed.

I have my opinions about those who side with the publishers, but those defending the publications need a reality check.

If you believe everything written in a MAGAZINE, then you are indeed a mindless sheep. This brings to light some shady practices for both parties, so if you don't take from this that you need to start being an individual and making up your own mind, then there's no hope for you.

Continue believing every and any major pu...

but he made a good point here:

"And you also need to remember that this is a one-sided story. This also burns bridges and it sets up future developers/publishers to question EGM's practices in the media."

I agree with this somewhat, but this is what I hate about these folks that like to vilify one side or the other. They completely ignore the other side and the effect that they have. Granted, this is a foolish move by EGM, but the publishers are using a...

because publications receiving review code isn't a right, it's a privilege.

Maybe the motives behind it are contrived, but the act itself is not. No publisher is obligated to give anybody review code, period.

This is like asking is it right or wrong to sell hot dogs to one vendor over another. It doesn't matter either way.

They can still review games, they just don't get freebies. It evens out, and it hurts both parties just as much. Publications g...

but the best I can say is that it's simply a different world. Different market, different audience, and most notably different culture.

There's a lot of quirky games over here, especially when you walk into the arcades. Many of them are fun, and many of them leave me scratching my head also.

All in all, different strokes for different folks.

but I'm much more interested in hearing/seeing how the game itself is coming along.

Their continued support of Motorstorm has been admirable to say the least, but I'm the sort of person who prefers that such precious time and resources be devoted to the next installment of the franchise.

I only wonder how much of a leap the sequel will be. If it's a big one then great. If not, all I'll be left wondering is how much better could it have been if they didn't spend s...

That's just asinine. Beg and cry for a feature that will drive up the price. By the time said feature would be implemented, you could just buy a player for an equivalent price.

What I do think would be a good idea would be a Blu-Ray add-on.

The thing is, even am HD-DVD standard 360 would be a monumentally dumb idea, because the blasted thing can't use it for games anyway. Did the N64 have a CD player? How about the Genesis? Gamecube play DVDs? I rest my case. <...

Fixed it for you, troll. It's fun to play eyes wide shut isn't it?

6608d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

That's precisely why those defending either side look pretty foolish. Both parties are in it for themselves. Publishers want their games to get out there, and of course in a positive light.

Publications want money, exclusive coverage, first coverage, and things of that nature.

Irrespective of what the other does, they've both got motives, and downplaying one doesn't mean that the other is any better.

Not necessarily a good excuse, but I'd bet a dime to a dollar that this is what theirs is.

Reason being is that entertainment and easy communication are a couple of the biggest selling points of Home. If they release this feature set with Home it will forever be synonymous with the service, especially if they advertise it as such. "PS Home, with features including *In-game XMB access, trophies, customization, and more!". I could totally see something like that happeni...

That would be like saying the PS2 HDD add-on was critical to it's success. Nowhere was the console designed around the thing. It's tough to pull that off with add-ons, particularly ones with limited relevant support.

May have been if HD-DVD was usable for games, but even then, if the format buckled for movies, they could have still produced them for the space it provides.

I still think they shot themselves in the foot by not implementing this as standard(and usab...

This just further brings to light the foolishness that's going on within gaming journalism. Relations with publishers now are starting to get shaky, so who do we trust? Same people we should have IN THE FIRST PLACE, nobody.

First of all, this "so-and-so is strong arming reviewers!" is hogwash. It's simply not providing the benefit of shipping them their products, it isn't an embargo or ban on coverage. If I were a CEO, in my head it isn't my responsibility to provide ...

That little quip deserves a "LOL" by itself. Tell me, what exactly is so prestigious about so called "gaming credentials"?

Don't drink too much of that kool-aid now...these professionals can't tell you or me how to like or dislike a game any better than you or I can. This word professional gets tossed around way too often, and people give it far too much leverage. So someone who gets paid to play games is more "qualified" to give OPINIONS on games ...

but I smell a fanboy or a shill.

He could at least be more subtle about it, being a d*ckhead doesn't do anybody any good, particularly with how much exposure his loud mouth gets.

Reminds me of Gabe Newell. His success within a certain industry gives the dumb*ss the idea that he can run his suck about whatever and to whoever he wants to.
