As good as The Last of Us does indeed look, I think it's about the limit of what we will see from the PS3 this gen. The opening shot blew me away...the foliage reminded me a bit of Crysis, but in all honesty, the textures and remaining assets in the room were about on par with what I've seen from Uncharted.
The character models and ESPECIALLY the lighting were a huge step up from anything I've ever seen before on a PS3, though.
Even so, don't...
How on earth...this looks incredible.
and I sincerely believe that it has loads of potential when the current state of the industry is considered(shooter's being so popular.) There is no other console shooter that can equal its grittiness and overall production values, but they desperately need to inject something into this series to gain more mass appeal.
I think the main thing that holds Killzone back is that it isn't fast paced and frantic like the more popular shooters are. I get that the devs aim for...
As with anything else, as much as possible.
Not quite. Personally I'd like to see destructible environments that dont look pre-baked, and for things like shrubbery and clothing to not clip through characters when they interact with them.
This is just scratching the surface, but we've got a long way to go.
I've been parotting a similar sentiment for a long time now, with a few caveats. You can bet that if the next crop of consoles released this year...or worse yet, LAST year, as several imbeciles were clamoring for, then graphics wouldn't see much of a leap in light of certain things that will be standard next gen.
1080p 60fps will practically be mandatory next gen. It can be blamed on missteps and miscalculations this time around, as this is the first full fledged HD...
This is one of the better lists I've seen lately, although I think it should include more games.
One game that immediately comes to mind when I think of ruining other games is Starcraft, and I'm shocked that it wasn't included at all. I have never been able to play another RTS without referring back to the original SC, and even as good as SC2 is, I still find myself longing for many aspects of the original.
Whatever the case, bravo for creating a ...
Innovation in and of itself doesn't make a game good, at all. The total package has to be well refined, and in a lot of cases what you may call innovation others may simply dismiss as a failed idea. There is most certainly a fine line between the two, and I'm sure you've played many a game with "innovative" features that were poorly implemented and flat out didnt work.
Games need to be fun, satisfying, and entertaining before they are anything else. It...
I wouldn't be surprised, even if the console isn't set to release until 2014. Games are only taking more time, larger teams, and bigger budgets to produce, so this is just par for the course.
My only hope is that they learned a few things from this generation and have a smoother launch next time around.
The Alpha series as a whole never got it's just dues IMO. Didn't ruin the experience for me though, I logged countless hours on this game for months. Definitely a welcome return.
Not surprising, as everything about this game has always looked stellar. My favorite game in the series by a wide margin, would love to pick this up again.
That's a good point, DMC 4 was solid I agree. The thing with this new game is that it was stated from the very beginning that it was a reboot, so I think it unfair for diehards to slander the creators for not essentially making a carbon copy of the old franchise.
People need to just step back a bit and let it breathe. It happened with Batman, and we got one of the best movie of the decade in The Dark Knight, and I haven't heard a single complaint.
The...
going on with that fanbase right now. Actually it's worse, reminding me more of the madness that overtook Metal Gear fans when MGS2 dropped. That was just stupefying. The ONLY reason people trashed that game was because Raiden was the protagonist over Snake. EVERY silly pretense I heard post-release was simply made up because the dogmatic and zealous fanbase didn't have their day in the sun. Poor things.
The same is happening right now, and when the dust settles the...
Not much substance to each selection shows how much thought was put into this. Some were so silly that it's obvious that the author inflated the list up to ten.
Try again, and next time flesh out each issue to at least ATTEMPT to make them look as though they apply to more than one genre.
I've concluded from the TGS footage that this game will at least be fun to play. I'd like some more story details now, but the action looks fast, frantic, and varied.
I know the cool thing to do on the interwebs is the dump on this game simply because it isn't the classic franchise, but I don't subscribe to that particular brand of nonsense.
I believe what my eyes see, and right now that's what appears to be a fun and fast-paced beat-e...

Let them remake it and watch as the same "fans" who have been complaining about a remake since um...the PS2 launch will be yammering on how Square screwed it up.
Some people ain't happy unless they're unhappy. Move along folks, nothing to see here.
It desperately needs an overhaul. I hate to say this, but being the best isn't saying much if the competition is either nonexistent or mediocre.
As good as this series has been and continues to be, it has some pretty glaring issues that should have been addressed years ago. Personally I'd like to see a more dynamic, free-flowing game that gives more control to the player. The animations are numerous, detailed, and pretty, but that's also this games double-edged sw...
You don't need to be the cook to taste the food.
This talk about judging a game going hand in hand with technical knowledge is nonsense. Seems people will tell themselves whatever they want to feel comfortable in their own skin.
Understandable in some respects...but not when you're talking video games. This is a hobby, people, not your kids.
I'd rather see a remake on the NEXT console generation rather than this one. Let's face it: FF7 couldn't be realized the way both we the fans and square would want it to be on current machines.
The reason I don't want a sequel is because it was a very complete story in which everything was resolved. I really can't see any sort of sequel having relevance; it would likely be "this new band of misfits saves the world from yet another unseen peril". ...
