Yet another example of why gaming journalism has little to no credibility these days.

Aside from these being the latest rumors in the same sense that the "latest" Godfather movie was released 22 years ago, the author seems to be under the mistaken impression that resolution is directly tied to visual fidelity. 4K resolution won't automatically translate to ultra-realism; there's a big difference between being able to render 4K, and being able to render it well. Today's technology wouldn't render 4K games that looked much better than what we've got...

I've gotta LOL at some of these glowing reviews for this game. Great game? You bet. Amazing...genre defining...hardly. There are a lot of issues with D3 in regard to story, characters, content, and probably the biggest controversy at the moment, the items and loot that ALL of these reviews are either overlooking or trivializing.

Diablo 3 is a lot of fun without question, but in many, many areas it feels incomplete. Fair enough considering that all of our fond memories of ...

I've said it many times before; achievements and trophies are useless when you think about the rewards that older games used to give players for accomplishing something. A score or digital sticker(trophies) adds no replay value to a game for me. I'm sorry, but if I can't use it either in game, or with another product, it has no value.

What both Microsoft and Sony NEED to start doing, and I've been saying this for years, is give an appropriate unlockable with e...

If there's even a modicum of truth to any of the recent rumors, then I think it's safe to say that the next gen won't be a quantum leap. Heck, this gen was a bit of an experimental stop-gap of sorts in the first place. Coming into this gen, non of the big three knew whether the standard would be 1080p or 720p. Heck, the 360 didn't even offer HDMI until a later revision. Even now they're still trying to play catch-up in terms of resolution and framerate, all the while tryin...

Of course he will be, but in this case why keep stuff like this a secret. It's not as if Nintendo is gonna put him in the next Smash Bros. before All Stars releases XD. Sometimes the whole NDA and secrecy nonsense goes a little too far. Expect all the big name mascots of this generation and those past(except Crash, Spyro, and others that went third party :/)

This game is never releasing. Was announced before the PS3 even launched, and yet here we are a year away from the next gen and still vaporware. How the heck 3 Uncharteds, 2 Killzones, 2 Infamous' and FIVE COD games come out before this single game from square is beyond me. Unsat, plain and simple. The power that be in Square need to be fired, seriously. I know I would be if it took me comparatively this long to be productive.

This is what gaming needs to return to; tangible unlockables that the player can use to actually enhance the experience somehow. I don't get the fascination with gamerscore and trophies lately...they get you nothing in the end.

Every trophy, achievement, milestone, or whatever equivalent should come with some sort of corresponding accessory, character, or asset that you can use in the game. Hell, not even in game, start giving us backgrounds, Avatar skins, behind the sce...

I agree wholeheartedly on paying for what you expect, but in regard to the rumors turning out to be wrong, that may not exactly be the case.

The rumor mill could very well be a truth or a half truth; Sony may either be delivering an earlier rendition to developers or there may be various prototypes in the wild. The final version probably ends up being what is essentially a further evolved version of these rumors, who knows? Considering that as a possible outcome, the speculat...

All I have to say is that I hope Sony leaked these specs intentionally to test the waters of gamer sentiment. The reaction has been bad at worst and a mixed bag at best, which is hopefully telling them not to skimp on better tech.

I'm with the whole idea of an architecture that is more familiar to developers, but hopefully it doesn't come at the cost of overall performance.

It's also entirely possible that the detailed specs are just a baseline fo...

In my case it's not that I'm fine with this generation. Quite the contrary; this generation of consoles sucked hard and I don't want another crop rushed, unfinished hardware that struggles to keep up with current standards.

The primary reason I don't want new consoles for at least another 2 years is that I don't want the same mistakes made again. As a gamer, I would have to pay for it by having shoddy hardware with gimped features playing games with unreal...

I completely disagree. This is akin to saying photographic companies concentrate too much on optical quality, and should focus more on the other aspects of photography. If this were true, we would still be shooting pinhole cameras and Daguerreotypes.

I believe that devs should put forth 100% effort towards ALL aspects of gaming. Those of you who say things like "graphics don't matter" or "it's all about gameplay" are fooling yourselves and you ne...

You can rattle on and on about how old these consoles will be by year x, y, or z, but that doesn't change the fact that this generation was nearly crippled by hardware that struggled to keep up with the software written for it.

1080p and 3D WILL be standard next gen, take that to the bank. I'd bet a dime to a dollar that if consoles were released next year that they would face the same struggles that this generation faces. 720p HD gaming is a shaky standard at best....

Good on Jaffe for retaliating; personally I'm sick and tired of gaming journalisms complete lack of accountability. Journalists are too often on the offensive, accusatory side of the fence, yet they never acknowledge or answer for their own follies.

It's absolutely ridiculous that they expect to point the finger 100% of the time. I'd bet a dime to a dollar that the writer in question won't stand up for his or her own integrity and reply to Jaffe.

In the case of some of us, it isn't about being content with current consoles; it's quite the opposite. Generally speaking, this generation has been a monumental failure with respect to creativity, gameplay, features, hardware specifications, among many, many others.

Even since launch, this generation has been an utter fiasco for all parties involved. 360 had hardware issues abound, no HDMI, a gimped "core" console, stupidly over-priced and under-featured pr...

Interesting post, and refreshing to actually read a well written video game blog for a change.

Regardless, I disagree. I don't believe that any of these games and franchises hold that much sway over anybody's plans for future hardware developments. The market history, global economy, tech trends, budget, and R&D have infinitely more to do with that. IMHO, the only thing that the market performance of these games will affect is their own future and the potential us...

Exactly. Apparently, the author thinks that he has free reign to distort the English language and re-define words as he sees fit. "Influence" apparently means sales and acclaim in his world. Where have I been all this time?

and I quote...

"For the sake of this particular article 'influence' pertains to success, reception, perception from those playing and the respect gained from others who are developing games"

So, either the author is openly admitting that he doesn't understand the meaning of the word influence, or that he's arrogant enough to distort the word "for the sake of this particular article".

Not only does inf...

Love him or hate him, one thing I appreciate about Jaffe is that he isn't a shill for anyone. I don't agree with his list, sure, but it's nice to see that a respected, well established developer doesn't display any leanings in regard to genre, company, platform, developer or fanbase with a list like this. Lord knows the so-called gaming press does it at the drop of a hat.

Reassures me that the biased nonsense that goes on in the gaming community really is just...

A truly unique character that I enjoyed for the first three games, at least. I wish ND never let go of this franchise, I couldn't even imagine how Crash would be realized today.
