In all honesty, I do not think ME3 would have been the best Action-RPG if it came out this year as the title would have probably went to Deus Ex: Human Revolution or The Witcher 2.

BF3 PC OR Console is superior to MW3 not because of graphics, but because of the technology that it is powered by and this technology allows for dynamic gameplay. Example: Your enemy can die because debris fell on him. That isn't possible in MW3.
It isn't about graphics, but the gameplay that is possible because of technology.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution was showed off behind closed doors at E3 last year and I was there to witness it. They showed a variety of stuff such as combat, dialog, multiple ways to accomplish task, and even inventory management/RPG systems such as uprading (augmenting) your character and other things.
It isn't possible, it is just that it isn't a priority for Bioware and hasn't been since Mass Effect 2.
It is clearly evident that Bioware wanted to create a Space Sci-Fi version of Gears of War....

Yes it does have to be a competition. Why? Because this "war" is going to determine how other developers go forward with their FPS games.
If BF3 does well against MW3, then developers would follow the BF3 path and create more FPS games that requires more skill, strategy, team work, vehicles, destructable enviornments etc....
If MW3 blows BF3 away, then developers would stick with the COD formula and just create arcade-style FPS games.
