The problem is [for Microsoft] gamers aren't stupid. Gamers (Xbox and non) were up in arms about the Red Ring fiasco and the move to Kinect. Did Microsoft ever listen to those gamers? No, they stuck their fingers in their ears and pretended the problem didn't exist or they threw money at it until it went away.
I hate to sound biased, but this is one of the BIG things that separate Sony from Microsoft is that Sony actually pays dedicated staff to read and respond to th...
PS+ requirement for online does essentially replace Online Passes. The only difference is instead of making people who buy used games pay for those online passes, they've distributed the cost to EVERYONE who wants to play online or take advantage of the other PLUS benefits.
Personally, I'm a little against the principle of moving online gameplay into a paid service, but even before that happened I was already strongly considering PS+. Also I don't play online very...
PlayStation Move never really failed nor succeeded. Sony's approach to the Move has always been a "it's there" approach; this seems to be continuing with the PS4.
There aren't too many Move-only (Move-required) games. There are TONS of Move-compatible games, but in every one of them Move is optional; some work better with Move than others, but if you don't have a Move controller there is nothing preventing you from playing with just a normal controll...
Like you said there is always internet streaming. If it is like past E3's Sony will stream over the PSN as well and in HD in addition to having the conference be downloadable after the fact for those in Europe or Asia that don't want to be up in the wee hours of the morning to watch it live.
No frets.
Foxgod,
DOS (Denial of Service) attacks can still cause regional outages. No matter how decentralized the servers get. Hell, just ask a few countries in the middle east who have had their ENTIRE COUNTRY knocked off the internet due to a DOS attack from another nation.
I will say this again and again: Nothing made by man is infallible. Every system has its flaws.
All it'll take is one long DOS attack and everyone's xbox becomes a big black brick. The XBL network has already seen downtimes that have been long enough to exceed the so called 24 hour requirement.
Leave it to Microsoft to cater to the minority of people that have 100% reliable internet (hint: internet isn't 100% reliable ANYWHERE - nothing made by man is infallible).
The 360 was made because the Original Xbox's losses were written off at the price of getting into the gaming market.
The 360 getting a much larger market share than the Original could, despite the Red Ring fiasco and the losses it incurred, justified them continuing with the Xbox One.
However, "if" the Xbox One does go south I can guarantee the investors are going to put pressure on Microsoft to reconsider future ventures in the gaming market. ...
@firelogic
Except that Robert Downey naturally acts just like Tony Stark. Stan Lee admitted to Downey that Stark was really a role meant just for him. Stark and Downey are both cocky and snarky. All Downey had to do to play Stark was act like himself.
Remember you need double the space to download AND install PS3 games, software and updates.
So, 26GB download really means you need at least 52GB of space free.
This is why I paid extra to get a 256GB SSD for my PS3 instead of sticking with the lower cost 128GB. If the HDD is user replaceable on the PS4, I may splurge and get the just recently introduced 960GB M500 SSD for it (hopefully the price drops when the PS4 hits).
Seriously, the only thing that KILLED GTA4 for me was the endless want and need for your friends to be taken out to various places. It was an unwanted distraction when you were in the middle of heading over to start a mission, side mission or looking for hidden collectables and if you ignored all of them for too long you'd have one after another after another bugging you.
Having friends is cool and OK, but having to cater to their every need is just too much. If I want so...
I really liked MGS3, but combined with the story of MGS:PW (Peace Walker) and the back story mentioned in MGS4 you have a whole new understanding of Big Boss as REALLY begin to like the guy. I really think MGS3 should always be taken together with Peace Walker as they are Big Boss's "saga" or "story arc". Combine with that the soon to be released (hopefully) Ground Zeroes & MGSV.
With MGS1 Big Boss was always portrayed as this big antagonist, but a...
I think it depends on the depth of story writing in the game. If a game was written in such a way that there is already this big background story to a character/faction than a prequel is possible.
The best examples of this are Metal Gear and God of War and they've been done...successfully. In both cases the canon took on a life of it own and you had entire timelines built (MGS) in which to work from.
Now with some games the story is too shallow (games tha...
"Streaming is that new medium." << Right there.
Microsoft again is backing the wrong horse. TV is loosing ground to streaming services like Hulu, HBOGo, and NetFlix.
Seriously, cable providers are doing all they can to keep people, but many are dropping their TV service because they get what they need from the streaming offerings.
I know Microsoft has given access to many of these streaming services, but if all you rely on is ...
PS3/PS4 - Gaming Console that can also do entertainment
Xbox One - Entertainment Hub that can also do games
It's all perspective, but to who it's going to matter to only one of those perspectives is correct, the other only leads to alienation.
Remember more money is to be made from games+dlc and accessories and their respective licensing than from the actual hardware itself. The games and licensing fees (made from 3rd party developers...
The primary example they gave for the DS4 light bar (in coordination with the new PSEye) was for auto-placement of players in splitscreen multiplayer based on where they're sitting.
Other than that the only confirmed use of the light bar on the DS4 is to assign each player their own color, much like the PSMove controller does, just without worrying about anything related to the camera, as Sony has already stated the camera (while bundled with every system) is not required...
@SecondSon
Actually that light IS controlled by software. It's just wired by default in the drivers to come on, but it can be bypassed. The Cyberlink Dell Webcamera software, for example, that comes just about every Dell laptop has a surveillance mode that turns the camera on and records without the camera light ever coming on. There is also a time lapse capture mode that has an option to disable the camera light.
Any remotely talented software engineer (...
"won’t use Xbox One’s admittedly creepy always-listening feature for any nefarious purposes"

What?! So you're still snooping by admitting you're still using it! Just saying you're not using it for bad stuff doesn't get you out of the "privacy doghouse". Classic political response by answering the qu...
The PS3 was never region locked, however it was "display locked".
What is display locked...well there were still two types of PS3's in the world: NTSC & PAL
Of course, this only matters on standard definition TVs (NTSC: 480 line interlaced; PAL: 576 line interlaced) and who the hell doesn't have a TV capable of at least 720P at this point.
So, the PS3 was only limited in what standard definition TVs you could connect it ...

I'm not going to ignore the fact that publishers lose significant amounts of money to used game sales. GameStop and the likes' commercialization of used games resales has been a major blow to not just EA's revenue, but all publishers.
BUT, this is the big thing, EA's losses are not just because of used games. Yeah, there's a loss, but it is not that big in comparison. EA's losses are mostly due to the RIDICULOUS amount that the...
Spielberg's and Lucas' generations have past. They have past their prime. They used to be great, but now their styles are just unappealing.
Great example for BOTH of them:
Indiana Jones: Last Crusade
vs
Indiana Jones: Crystal Skull
The first was brilliant and entertaining and never got "SCI-FI WTF?!" until the last 20 minutes. Crystal Skull they "nuked the damn fridge" in the FIRST 20 minutes.
