I’m not defending the argument she is making, and I think SP game development is just fine. Quality SP games make bank. However, it is true that the $59.99 price point, when adjusted for inflation loss of value, is lower revenue per game than the same price point when the PS3 launched in 2006. $60 twelve years ago was around $74 in 2018. Even if we go back to the PS2 era when games were moved from $40 to $50, that 50 equates to about $71 in today’s money.

My point being tha...

If you specified online multiplayer I’d be more sympathetic. I actually would name the downfall of local split screen multiplayer as something I would change.

As others have pointed out, at this stage it’s realy not an enormous amount of effort to port it over. It’s just a way to make a quick buck. Whether they did or did not develop it does not impact the speed with which they roll out the next Elder Scrolls.

You know it’s not that easy to simply make prior purchases carry over right? Sony has to reach out to the publishers and obtain a license for the game to be playable on a non console device, something they are not likely to grant for free. Maybe Sony published games could transfer but I doubt those too. Unfortunately that’s just business.

Every year Madden gets higher review scores than it deserves. I don’t know why. It’s not that all madden games are terrible, they are just always disappointing. There is a feeling of lost potential.

It would be incredibly embarrassing if they didn’t sell out, and that’s not a good measurement of interest.

I agree Uncharted 2 was the high point in the series in terms of story (and multiplayer), but personally U4 was really close to 2. We saw a lot of different environments in both games that were beautiful to play unlike U1 and a little bit with U3 where the environments were not super varied.

It sounds like you’ve never been a fan of the Uncharted franchise with some of your points. There is an obvious difference between Uncharted 1 and Uncharted 4 in the gameplay. They fleshed it out a lot more and did open up levels for a little bit more exploration within the linear format. What does “pure gameplay” even mean? Someone could argue Gran Turismo is the exact same game every year, but it’s not. It just is iterative and adds to it with each entry. Same with Uncharted. However, I do ...

Sometimes I watch before I purchase or spend money renting a game. It’s sort of like going over to your friends house and watching him play. Everyone had that friend who showed off his new game but took forever to let you play lol.

Also nice if you’re stuck on a level or are going for a certain bonus and you want to see someone else achieve it.

Yeah even those with a 4K monitor may not have the bandwidth to stream it, much less the actual streamer. It’s going to be a few years before 4K streaming is mainstream, especially at 60FPS.

“expect us to buy new... every year.”

I guess maybe if you buy from all three console makers, but the Pro came out 3 years after the original PS4. Hardly “every year”. And since the games are still playable on the old system, no one is forcing you to buy into upgraded performance. If you like the slim/original PS4 you can keep using it and wait for PS5.

2020 is the most likely scenario. Rockstar will wait as long as they can before this generation has died out. I wouldn’t be surprised if they waited even a little into PS5’s release. They will want the highest possible install base to sell into.

Although we are in a new world as far as backward compatibility (since the consoles all use x86), so I suppose it could launch on next gen and also be playable on “old gen”. Putting that aside there’s absolutely no way on earth rockstar would release something as big as GTA6 as a launch title. There simply could not possibly be enough consoles in the hands of enough consumers to justify it. Even if 10 million systems immediately sold, which has never happened before, it wouldn’t justify it. T...

Not to take anything away from the accomplishment, as it is very impressive still, but the reason why FIFA 14 released on PS2 is largely because of under developed countries where they can only afford really old systems like the PS2. Even so it is pretty incredible.

I don’t think they promised 4 player split screen. My understanding was they only promised split screen for up to 2. Regardless, expecting 4k/60 with 4 players local is a pipe dream.

@Condog

You’re right - but they have allowed some licenses to lapse if they just couldn’t find a way to profit from the franchise. Daredevil is a good example. I wouldn’t be surprised if Fox gives up on F4 as the property is already on the clock in a few years and audiences have lost interest. The animated idea is probably the last shot. X-Men however will be a Fox property for a very very long time.

I can understand both sides. Fox wants a big franchise and they paid good money (albeit a very long time ago) to license X-Men. At the same time, it’s not really fair to Disney to be tied into contracts that give film rights to opposing studios in virtual perpetuity (assuming the studio keeps making movies). Disney’s only hope is that Fox simply doesn’t make enough money on the franchise anymore to put up with it, or at the least that they find themselves in a situation where they need Marvel...

This is true... culture changed in Japan and consoles in general simply aren’t the “it” item there anymore. It has done very well all things considered.

That’s the thing is it is sort of a silly argument to make from some xbox fans that the X1X is more powerful than the Pro. Everyone agrees with that. Maybe some disagreement on how much more, but we all agree it is more. The problem is you are comparing it to a system that came out a year ago and will probably be $150 cheaper by the time the 1X releases. That’s a pretty substantial price difference. And the Pro has far more exclusive games coming over the next year in addition to some of the ...

I agree that would be nice, but this game can be purchased for dirt cheap now anyways if you really wanted it.
