I don't think they should scrap them, just give them better structure, like PS Trophies.
I think we've had this rumor before but I can't find it, I roughly remember commenting that $499 would be too much for the casual crowd and the $299 monthly installment plan was even worse in the long run. I think MS will aim lower.

I think it'll be just called 'Xbox' in an attempt to create a simplified Apple-esque image. I'm going to keep calling it Xbox 3 until the official word though.

I think everyone will have this in the back of their minds when deciding whether or not to purchase a new console on launch day. All we can go on is track record, we just have to be brave (or stupid :P)
It's smart to market your games console as a GAMES console in the early years because the early adopters are nearly always the tech savvy core gamers.
PS4 will have just as much streaming, entertainment and media funtions as Xbox 3 just look at all the apps available on PS3 right now. Also isn't PS3 the number one device for Netflix use? Sony also owns (or has a big share of) content creating music and movie studios, if they wanted, they could have a LOT of exclus...

TBH it's probably best not to renew right now, at least until we see what direction the Xbox brand is taking after may 21st. Hopefully MS will dismiss the harmful rumors surrounding Xbox 3 at the event, I don't know why they haven't come out and dismissed them sooner, makes me wonder if they're true.
It's the fact that MS haven't simply dismissed some of the awful rumors that has me concerned that there might be some truth to them.

I don't think MS could call it an all in one entertainment device with a straight face without including Bluray.
I wonder if Sony has any say in licensing issues with Bluray, they could have intentionally delayed MS's request in order to stall the launch of Xbox 3. lol crazy conspiracies.
It says something about the Playstation brand when developers are making games for it because they are fans. The support from Sony is said to be pretty good too, which has gotten them exclusive games and content in the past.
They look to be keeping up this tradition for PS4 by making the development and publishing process as smooth and easy as possible. It's already attracted big names like Johnathan Blow and who knows what other quirky and interesting titles we'...

There really is something unnervingly shady about third party exclusive deals. I always imagine a backroom with loads of goons playing poker where money changes hands and 'things get done'.
