Not sure if co-op ranks too highly on my list of wants for GTA V but I agree with much of what's written here. More imaginative quests and better checkpoints are a must (although GTA IV did improve the latter somewhat). The GTA series has inched fairly close to a Western RPG model in some respects since it went 3D, would be interesting to see what new additions Rockstar make to their formula.
But yes...more army, more tanks and a Hunter would be nice.
I just wish they'd market their non-COD games better. Singularity was riotous fun last year and yet no-one heard of it. Blur was a fantastic game, but not enough of a fuss was made. Part of that is on us, part of that is on press, but Acti could have shoved a bit more money their way.
Other than that, though there's really not much to complain about. Even the closures, as is mentioned in the article, can be seen to be necessary. And people need to stop whining about E...
Frankly, this was my game of show.
Excellent stuff. The Hearts of Men was brilliant, can't wait for the update!
I've tried it.
That rear touchpad is a pile of crap. It doesn't surprise me that Sony are heavily pressurising devs to utilise the gimmicks on the Vita, but to be honest, the USP of having two tactile analogue sticks AND a touchscreen would have been enough!
It'll certainly be interesting to see how it'll differ. MM has stolen the limelight somewhat,
Empowerment fantasy sells, and that usually equates to violence in some form or another. The industry is slowly exploring other forms of interaction and other motives for engaging with these, but they don't tend to sell as well.
That said, LA Noire is a fantastic character piece - forcing you into the game rather rigidly through Phelps' eyes. Jade in BGAE is, as Ancel notes, another character who isn't naturally violent. Bethesda manage to give the player the free...
Wouldn't that be lovely?!
...only I think LucasArts are allergic to good games/ideas right now.
I'd love to see a KOTOR 3, though it missed out on the list as it looks like SWTOR is looking to continue the legacy of those two games.
Would have loved to have seen a Free Radical/Pandemic Battlefront III, but alas...
But the biggest one is X-Wing/TIE Fighter...why the hell haven't we seen a re-release?! Genuinely think that LucasArts completely lost the plot.
I agree with your later points. Competition will spur on a generation jump with the big three constantly looking over their shoulders. That said, Nintendo have made no third party friends this generation whatsoever. They've survived on first party guarantees more than ever with the Wii because they had no real strategy when it came to separating the third party wheat from the chaff. That, and excellent marketing.
E3 will be interesting indeed.
I think price points will come into play a lot. New tech means new expenses. I won't want to shell out another £300+ just when this generation is fully hitting it's stride. I kind of agree witrh a number of points bangoskank has made. My backlog is huuuuge!
That said, I can understand the desire for next gen, particularly from PC gamers. But a shinier COD won't make it any better necessarily...just...well...sh inier.
Backwards compatibility w...
The argument is really put forward by those suggesting that console life is slowing down PC development, which it arguably is. That said, as soon as I buy a PC it basically becomes obsolete, which isn't exactly the the best thing when it comes to pouring millions of bucks into game development.
As for the Wii 2, I think if the rumours are true, it'll be interesting to see the reaction to a hardcore, high-res Ninty console (especially when it comes to price point). The...
It is utterly marvellous
MK is embargoed until the 19th
Without meaning to offend in any way shape or form, simply because you may in fact be the first person I've ever found who actually had time for Superman 64 let alone liked it.....HOW?!
It was, and this is being polite, a foggy turd of a game!
Shame the Playstation remake never saw the light of day, mind...it supposedly fixed everything!
Shenmue was outstanding, as were most of Schafer's classics...those two are certainly tragic entri...
The nature of the game being set in one place isn't the problem, in theory...The Witcher is essentially set in one city, and it's fantastic. But Kirkwall is tiny, discourages exploration, and barely changes over time. Your companions never really feel much like companions, because you can only really talk to them in designated areas, although the way they chat in the background occasionally is a nice touch.
The story picks up in the second act - I'll give it that ...
It's a rather reductive comparison to be honest. Mobile games tend to be things do whilst other things are happening. I don't find myself jumping on my phone - or even my DS or PSP - very much unless there's something else going on like lazily watching sport, or stuck on a train journey, or waiting around for an interview or an appointment.
I think the point about time wasting is a good one. Mobile games fill gaps. The home consoles are far more of an investment ...
I think it comes down to the control system when choosing between them and there will be plenty who prefer that of FNR4. FNC is arguably the more accessible and makes for a more aggressive experience, but some of the tactical play is lost until you leap online.
I loved Champion Mode, but it's not enough.
For some reason I crave an Inflatakart.
