Hahaha :D I'm not sure I agree with you there. We did want 3 Bs, yes, but look at Surgeon Simulator. That's bloody, but not really what I'd call brutal :)

Not really been particularly enamoured of any SP mode since MW2.

The series has been in a nosedive since COD4.

This is the most ridiculous response ever.

It would be like rubbishing Timothy Zahn's Thrawn Trilogy just because George Lucas invented Star Wars.

Much of the comics industry is predicated on iterating on characters and story arcs developed by others. Does that mean we can't praise storytelling in comics? Of course not.

Also...different mediums require different rules.

The Walking Dead had an original plot set in an appropriated world.

See my comment above. Adaptations in this business are usually inadvisable and Telltale has a scattershot history. The reason TWD succeeded was because the original writing was good and they understood the benefits of making choices count.

Read the article, identify with the matter at hand and take a look at the reasons stated rather than fabricating a false, straw man argument. When/if you d...

The issue isn't with IP. Telltale have some duds in their history too. Heavy Rain was excellent because it has a better story than Beyond, the genre of the narrative went hand-in-hand with the genre of the game, choices visibly mattered and had serious consequences.

Should Quantic Dream be applauded for delivering a brand new IP? Yes. Does it automatically make the game better? Hell no.

It doesn't matter where the background pieces come from. A comic ...

Given that the Watch Dogs delay will affect Sony more than MS -- Sony had after all prepared official bundles for the PS4 inc. WD -- and Driveclub is a Sony exclusive, I'd say it was a pretty fair title.

Also, it's really hard to make a pun out of 'delay' and 'Xbox One'.

Is it really flamebait? If people are getting their knickers in a twist over a pun as benign as this, I'd say that speaks more to the maturity levels of those fans...

What impressed me most was the seamless nature of it. The naval stuff in AC3 felt completely separate from the main game. Here, though, there's no separation. Land/sea/underwater... it doesn't matter. It's all part of one big cohesive whole, and that's enormously exciting.

Given that we don't have decimal places, think of it more as a 9.5+ score we rounded up if that helps. There's no such thing as a perfect game. Why would we rob ourselves of the top end of the spectrum?

Reviews are, by their very nature, imperfect too. If tens are the history shattering games that become pillars of posterity, then scores should really only be bestowed months after release for accuracy and to weigh impact, no?

But that would be ludicro...

We should definitely celebrate this as a positive step. But that's all it is currently: a step, not the end goal. More open platforms, more developer choice, these things ultimately benefit us consumers as we, by proxy, are able to reap the benefits of contented creatives and become empowered with a more wide-ranging array of consumer options.

Hopefully.

DEVIL'S ADVOCATE: People on the internet overestimate gamers. There, I said it. Microsoft have made it very clear that they're not interested in nurturing talent like Sony and Nintendo are capable of doing. Their approach to third-party exclusives has been short-term contracts and timed-exclusive release and DLC for the past half a decade. They don't care about the core gamer at all and, though that's hard to hear, it's entirely up to them.

Microsoft's...

I agree with you, and I wrote it! :D

But I feel that's because some of the best developers hit their stride at the end of a console cycle -- just look at The Last of Us and Beyond for this generation, not to mention Shadow of the Colossus in the last.

Also, launch lineups are there to tick boxes and introduce new tech. It's only after the first six months (or 18 months in the Wii U's case, apparently) or so that you really see truly killer games c...

Nintendo showed some fantastic games, they really did. Mario Kart 8 looks amazing. None of their games will be bad, but none of them are particularly exciting. It was all so incredibly safe. Worse yet, there was no game that really screamed "Buy a Wii U".

The console will be desperately treading water until 2014.

"The Wii U needs it's *own* 64, Sunshine or Galaxy, not another hand-me-down."

^This.

Battlefield 3's campaign sucked. It was a boring, derivative, vacuum devoid of personality. It was solid, I suppose, but about as middle of the road as you can get.

The MP has been nothing short of spectacular, though. This is where Battlefield has always stood apart and stood well. It's a shame that DICE and EA chose to focus on the former rather than the latter - THAT'S what the article is getting at.

Too many fanboys here saw the little COD co...

Though I'd been a fan of Doom and Quake, Unreal Tournament was the game that really solidified my love of the PC FPS and Facing Worlds was the level that I kept coming back to time and time again. It's so perfectly designed in both balance, purpose, and execution. And segamon makes a good point - you think 'Facing Worlds' and you can instantly see it in it entirety.

It's always tough when a console fails. I nearly cried when, after a good six years of constant battering, water damage, numerous drops, spills, falls, and tumbles, my Game Boy finally packed in.

I remember cradling my first Xbox 360 in a towel, desperately hoping that the heat sink adhesive would re-melt and slip back into its proper place. Oh Microsoft, you sharks.

Thankfully my PS3 has never YLOD'd on me...yet. Although it did develop a temporary f...

"Epitomised by Nihon Falcom's Dragon Slayer series, which would in turn influence the likes of Ys and The Legend of Zelda"

The article isn't trying to rewrite history, the para in question says Zelda drew some inspiration from Dragon *Slayer*, an early ARPG from Nihon Falcom, which released in 1984.

It's not quite the defining JRPG of this generation (Xenoblade still holds that crown), but it is absolutely brilliant.
