"I'd never buy a game day 1 from them anymore though"
I think that's the key, really, especially for games like Ass Creed. Unless you're certain you want a game and can land a sweet pre-order deal that's going to be significantly cheaper than leading prices, there's just no point in rushing it.
To be fair, "Uplay" is a horrible word. I apologise for using it, but it was sort of necessary.
I can almost completely ignore Origin now, which is exactly what I want from a client (if there has to be one), apart from the free game pop-ups. And even then, they give me free stuff. And good free stuff at that. Kudos to EA for really turning that around.
Uplay has been in its current state longer than Origin has been a digital distribution platform. How the hell is it still this bad?
The report was written after the 900MB patch had been installed. Have updated the original article to clarify this.
It's important to note that it's by no means universal and many are clearly having a great time with the game, but our experience has been woefully inconsistent.
Bizarrely, the slowdown that's been affecting me the most has been during free-running animations and climbing. The crowd stuff has actually been okay for the most part, but combat and climbing have suffered greatly.
Which platform are you buying it on?
So many hours spent playing BTB on Exile in Halo 4 :D
Yeah, if you don't have the perfect setup it just falls apart. I can probably count the rounds I've really enjoyed with it on one hand, which just isn't good enough, especially not at £45-50.
I'd love some cutscenes framing that last battle. Would be tricky to work meaningful gameplay into things at this point, but I agree...fleshing out the Battle for Earth would be seriously welcome. You're right, I want to see those Volus bombing squads dammit!
I'm just replying to your name... because I'd love to see ODST 2 as well.
Man, that game is so great. It's just a setpiece-stuffed Firefly love-in, with a moody jazzy epic soundtrack, and a cracking story... and that's awesome.
It's that Guardians beta, though. And Sunset Overdrive. And Forza. And Dead Rising 3. And Titanfall on console (have it on PC, but I'd play it so much more on console).
I really want an Xbox One for this.
I love that halfway through assembling this article, Uplay crashed.
Uplay is a joke. But a very bad one. Told by someone who keeps punching you.
That caveat is in the article... the Wii U's games lineup is ridiculously awesome now.
Yeah, I have no doubt that the PS4's time will come and Sony's stable of devs will come roaring out of the gates with some barnstorming exclusives in the next year or two, but MS are doing well to capitalise on Sony's inactivity right now.
Yeah, it's odd that it's UK only. Maybe UK retailers have some arrangements in place with Ubi that kept Steam out? Thing is, people will just find loopholes and hit up key sellers.
And yeah, Uplay is utter arse.
It's only going to keep coming as we head closer towards Black Friday and the holiday season!
"The biggest issue in gaming are our media sources that constantly pit us against each other for ad revenue."
That's really not something that's happening, certainly not here anyway. And even if it was, which it isn't, that means the power is in the hands of you. You can choose not to flip out over someone mentioning something as innocuous as another platform having had issues. The article doesn't make a big deal out of it, why are you?
Amusing oversensitivity here in the comments. Placing something in context is not flame bait nor is it trolling. There's no disparaging of the PS4 at all, rather the writer uses it to make a point that other platforms are having issues this week.
Microtransactions and F2P can work if integrated into the very fibre of a game from day one of development. But thank god they're not in Just Cause 3!
Nothing worse than microtransactions gone wrong, and it's all too easy to lazily shoehorn them into a game and disrupt the balance of everything.
