Exactly that. The PS4's Ryse is spot on.
Only a bit more po-faced. There was something glorious silly and OTT about Ryse.
Important to preface the preview with that paragraph about games looking to be more expansive these days, I feel, to relay the context in which the preview was written.
If beautiful, rigidly linear games are someone's thing, then they might well love this.
But I found it to be an experience that tried to fight my engagement with it at every turn. Which is a shame given that the setting is hugely promising.
Looking forward to playing this over Christmas, loved Guardian of Light.
Played Bayonetta 2 at a preview event.
Gathered my jaw up off of the floor.
Immediately walked out of said event and bought a Wii U.
Never looked back.
There's no excuse at this price not to get involved.
Good to see Microsoft still aggressively pushing good value console bundles after Black Friday. After PSX, they have their work cut out. This is a pretty good one, though, especially with that extra controller.
You kind of suspected that with Destiny right from the start. Companies now have roadmaps for DLC placed well in advance of release. It's galling stuff, made easier to push through thanks to season pass and pre-order culture.
All it shows is that Activision's marketing was extremely effective.
Oh man, Shadow of Mordor is awesome!
Nemesis system seems like such a simple idea when you think about it, but really revolutionary. Amazing game, have sunk hours and hours into it. Don't regret a single second.
They're trying to copy EA again. It's the Ubi version of Need For Speed: The Run!
And that's why I uninstalled it ages ago.
There are games that are really worthwhile out there, including significantly better shooters. The hype swept Destiny into homes, but they're not getting any more of my money, that's for sure.
"The tragedy is that Ubisoft and Ivory Tower didn't know when to stop"
Sounds a lot like an Assassin's Creed game that fell, vomiting, out of the gates just a few weeks ago.
The whole "Ubisoft game" template is now beyond a joke, now stacked with microtransactions, even more invasive Uplay bullshit. This is production line game design where good ideas go to die (or get transformed into bloated, inconsistent, unsatisfying experience...
It was a genius move.
"Xbox is gaining momentum, what should we do? I know, let's throw ourselves a massive party to attract a bunch of attention just before Christmas!"
Well played, Sony. Well played.
All done to appease retail partners in the console market. A healthy retail sector is good for the industry, but change is coming. Restrictions and anti-consumer practices won't survive. Look at every other entertainment medium -- the change has followed consumer convenience. Companies have to be smarter -- there are great opportunities in the digital marketplaces, but no-one's taking full advantage of them yet. EA Access is a sign of things to come, mind.
It's pretty common amongst many retailers, sadly.
Vita FFVII for the win!
I think it was the packaging of it, though. PSX was a stage set for big trailers and big reveals.
Blues Cowboy is right... this isn't news. At least it shouldn't have been. A PC port of FFVII isn't news at all, but it was dressed up to be a big announcement... *that's* why it's galling.
I for one would still LOVE to see FFVII HD
Done!
Lol, I still have a pretty hefty backlog from this year to get through this Christmas.
But when The Witcher 3 arrives... I will be ready. So utterly psyched for that game. And Batman.
Couldn't give much of a toss about The Order or Hardline at this point tbh, though.
Not a jab, a fact. PlayStation is now crucially important to Sony... more so than it has ever been. Ever.
That's not a jab, that's a fact. Odd thing to get uppity about :-/
Not seen much of that yet :-P Certainly not as much as the moaning that went on after the Tomb Raider announcement.
No Man's Sky is the one that intrigues me most. Without getting some serious hands-on time with it, there's just no way to know what it's going to be like and where the compelling factors will come from.
I think cautious optimism is certainly going to be the way forwards rather than rampant hype.
