Not saying the game is bad, far from it (we gave it full marks). But the launch has been. And it does matter heading into the busiest retail week of the year. I really hope MS and 343i turn it around, and communication has been good (a point made in the article), but this has hurt them. You don't want to be heading into Black Friday with your flagship game half broken.
And as for those "other two" games, we gave them an absolute roasting for their awful launches...
The PS TV (on sale for £84 - no DS3, no mem card) exists in the UK, the PS TV Bundle ($99.99 - includes DS3 and mem card) does not.
Same product - different pricing and bundles for different markets.
How are you struggling to wrap your head around this?
Read the article (or perhaps notice the pound sign in the description above), realise that the OP site is a UK site, and maybe remember that PS Vue is in invitation-only, US-only beta (i.e. not actually out, and won't be this year). PS TV Bundle doesn't exist in the UK currently (although it does in the US).
This poorly informed commenter needs to do a little research before writing a comment about a story he knows nothing about.
I was looking forward to all of that too, but considering that Sony are charging £80+ for it, and that doesn't include a controller, only includes 1GB of onboard memory (which isn't even enough to store the three free indie games you get for free), still only uses the super expensive proprietary mem cards, and remote play seems pretty laggy, I'm kinda tearing my hair out!
It could have been great... but it feels like Sony have hamstrung PS TV already.
You can have a lot of fun in Sunset Overdrive in 24 hours. Really like this initiative, hope they do it with first-party games more often going forwards.
Yeah longevity will be key. Sony and MS have had very different strategies. There are big PS4 games coming, but you have to wonder if Microsoft can stay this aggressive with their exclusive releases long-term. I hope so... there's nothing better for gamers and consumers than having both consoles really firing on all cylinders.
This is not good. Doesn't bode well for Halo 5, either. It'd be a real shame if, after all of the momentum that the Xbox One has gathered over the past few months, it ended 2014 with its flagship MP exclusive of the winter lying in a heap.
They've really turned it around. The communication around the Xbox One was a joke ahead of launch last year and it got spanked last Christmas. But Spencer and his team have done outstanding work, gotten rid of mandatory Kinect, slashed the price, and focused on games again. Obvious moves, perhaps, but the MS of old might have been slow to implement the changes required. Credit where credit is due. Exciting times ahead once again for Xbox fans.
"Where have all the games been in the 1st 18 months after any consoles launch?"
Comparatively MS have been better at getting bigger exclusives out of the gate earlier this-gen. But as mentioned in the article, Sony and MS have had different strategies. Sony have focused much more on the machine itself and ease of use for third-parties.
Agreed. I think a lot of people bought PS4s as an investment based upon Sony's exclusives during the PS3 era, and hopefully that'll be a strength next year as we've seen precious little on that front.
I think it's also telling that the highest rated games of new-gen are last-gen remasters so far. Can't wait for that to change. *fingers crossed*
ACU and AC3 are alike in many ways. Both had horrific feature bloat, both had a boring protagonist, both had questionable mechanics.
But ACU is worse. Ubisoft's disruption of balance for the sake of corporate interest (microtransactions, companion apps), the gated content, the lack of incentivised exploratory playgrounds, the nerfed lateral acrobatics, the broken stealth...
...and the bugs. All of them.
Apparently Rogue is pretty good. Bu...
"it's also the first time away from Media Molecule"
Not quite. Sumo Digital handled the excellent LBP Vita as well. I mean only the sixteen people in the world who have a Vita (myself included) played it, but it was still amazing! :D
Had all of Killzone SF's levels been like its amazing, open, expansive first level, it would have been one of the finest shooters around. But it really wasn't. It looked pretty... aaaand that's about it.
Didn't say Infamous was a disappointment (that was reserved for Dreiveclub). I enjoyed Infamous immensely, but I wouldn't say I *loved* it. That gets reserved for undeniable classics like Uncharted 2, Halo 3, Ocarina of Time, Half Life 2, Grim Fandango.......
I think it will, Sumo Digital did a cracking job with the Vita version. My biggest concern is actually that the cross-gen release will negatively affect PS4 uptake, and the fact that the game itself isn't crossbuy seems odd.
I have to say, Sony are really playing a long game with their first and second party software slate. They cornered the market in telling people that third-party games run better, but for a platform holder with bigging hitting first-party studios, Sony are being soundly beaten by MS in terms of exclusives right now.
Hopefully that changes next year. Hopefully.
Loving the sound of a more accessible Create Mode, always found it a bit daunting in the past. Also, hell yes Hugh Laurie! Cannot wait!
Interested to know if anyone made their console purchasing decision for this gen based primarily on network stability of XBL? How much of a deciding factor was it for you, or was it more about exclusives/other factors?
Obviously crucial if you're primarily a multiplayer gamer/enjoy online features etc...
Sony have certainly been papering the cracks with PS Plus, but it's really been very good indeed, and an excellent way of providing a slate of interesting indie titles and giving them some exposure.
But you do still get that premium online experience with XBL. It sort of depends what you're looking for really.
Yes Mongoose stunts involving Scarabs, always you.
More Scarabs/huge enemies in Halo 5 please!
That's why it's so galling and why the reaction has been so strong... because Halo: MCC is outstanding everywhere else. And that's why 343i and MS must sort this within a matter of days now. Momentum is so crucial at this time of year. Look how quick Ubi's share price dropped when ACU's bugs hit the headlines.
After the job Spencer did to turn Xbox around, they deserve a stellar winter, and I really hope that they can fix this properly soon.
