This one is a love it or hate it title, folks, even for FPS fans.
If you're into what they're trying to do, this game's a dream come true but for most non-serious FPS players (i.e. reviewers), it's gonna be a "meh"-fest and confusing as all get out.
So for some people this game is going to be a 10 and wipe the floor with everything. But for everyone else it's going to be like a 6 with BFBC2, MOH, et al, and other higher profile and more easily accessible fa...
I'd say 8 is a solid score for MAG. I'm sure it'll probably metacritic even lower than that and some people will lambaste it. It's an on-line only game, it's an FPS with MMO elements, it requires teamwork with internet n00bs. Not everyone is going to really "get" it or even want it, it's shooting for a much narrower demographic than an Unreal Tournament, COD4, or even KZ2, type shooter.
So, it's aimed at a pretty hardcore audience, you kind of have to participate in the...
@Chubear 1.22: Brilliant post, man.
All you 'tards saying "I played the beta! Meh!" and are dismissing it as boring, unimpressive, etc, need to read Chubears post. If you only played the beta for a couple of hours total you DIDN'T really play the game. It would be like playing halfway through another games tutorial and saying "meh. I've played that game it sucks".
This is the big problem Zipper has with this game. Getting people who are like "...
I've pre-ordered it based on playing the beta, and IMHO, it's far too excellent and deep to be a really _amazing_ seller.
To be a true mega-hit, with a few rare exceptions, it seems like you gotta be dumbed down a bit in your gameplay mechanics (look at the top selling console/games) most people do not want to sign in for a 60 minute minimum session game. Most people do not want to play a game for two to three weeks before they really even fully grok it's entire scope/mechanics. ...
It's funny how the hardcore blog commenter community has such a massive hard-on for BFBC2. I was not really blown away by the beta. The engine IS super impressive... but the games I played were sort of all over the place, fun-wise. It's clearly a much deeper game than MW2 so I'm sure it'll be a very solid FPS but everyone is painting it like it's going to be revolutionary rather than evolutionary.
IMHO, MAG was easily more fun as a serious long term tactical team based FPS and MW...
Less whining is what I want the most with respect to the next COD.
Sometimes it's hard for business analysts to understand a business strategy that doesn't extend further than one quarter out because publicly traded businesses have almost all of their metrics setup as quarterly and communicate everything in those terms...
BUT a really viable megacorp that is going to survive and continue to dominate on a global scale (like Sony or Microsoft is capable of) has to have a more complex long term strategy a lot of times that requires taking a beating...
I (heart) New York.
Yup. The hype for BFBC2 started pretty much immediately after IW announced the PC version of MW2 would not have dedicated servers. I think EA did a great job of seizing the negative backlash from MW2's overhyping and highlighting their game and engine's features (ie. 'dey hijacked the hype! HtH!).
I found the BFBC2 hype festival kind of ironic, too, given the original's middle level hit status with the buying public on the first go-round.
Whether or not the end produ...
I call BS. Everyone knows that by 2020 earth will be a post apocalyptic wasteland where mankind battles for its very survival, it'll no longer be just a game, then. It'll all be real.
I'm stoked to have my first 3D glasses induced seizure!
LBP is insanely cool under ALL circumstances. I (heart) that game big time.
IMHO, BC2 and MW2 are significantly different types of games. While they are both classifiable as FPSs, one is a "twitch" shooter (MW2), a super fast paced, not realistic, highly polished, in your face adrenaline rush. If this were a movie it'd be "Crank". The other is a "tactical" shooter, slower paced and more cerebral, more team oriented, more gritty and realistic, less in-your-face-respawn-blam-boom -do-it-all-over-again... if this were a movie it'd be "...
Raven was the most popular faction initially, I like their look the best and the concept of high tech weaponry but in practice the SVER guns have the most stopping power and Raven's the least with Valor in the middle. Raven guns are accurate but in a close fire fight that is not as big an advantage as power, especially if you learn to control the recoil from the SVER guns when firing. Once this got figured out, people started to leave Raven.
Many guys who haven't played the beta ...
But does it sound like FUN? A juice drinking minigame? Uhhh no thanks... :)
Anyway, that's the million dollar question I guess... I'll probably rent this one first. It'll either rock my world or be "meh", I'll bet... probably no middle ground on this one.. Too early to tell which way it'll go. Much "day one respect" to the devs for trying to break new ground, though!
I have DI and GOW3 both pre-ordered up. The DI demo had bad ass GFX and the gameplay was GoW rip-off in a really good way.... and the art style is massively dark and Gothic which I dug big time. If GoW3 can shame it, it must be off the hook completely, which is also a good thing. :) There's definitely room on my shelf for both of these titles. I'm going to rock both of these games hard. And DI will "warm me up for GoW3" :)
At least if the PS Eye becomes a standard PS3 peripheral we can get all the 360 owners to stop complaining about the one thing the 360 ships with that the Ps3 doesn't as if its some kind of holy grail (as if everyone on the planet who can afford a PS3 doesn't have at least 2 bluetooth mics just laying around).
Finally! The PS3 (and 360 with Natal) can now get all those wii ports we've all desperately wanted for so long!!1!? Oh wait.... Nevermind.
Seriously, motion control is amazingly awesome for like 1 in 20 games and for the rest it makes them MUCH worse. The hype on this front is just sad. It makes MS and Sony both sound desperate. Just like the 3D talk in the HDTV consumer space.
Thankfully, the 360 and PS3 didn't have the motion control stuff out of the box so devs w...
I'm ultra skeptical of this claim. A lot of science basically says using your eyes does not harm them. It's probable the fatigue/lack of sleep was the culprit or the story is flat out fabricated BS (The Chinese media has a questionable history in terms of impartiality ;) ).
From article "myths about vision" on agingeye.net:
Using you eyes for any length of time does not make them weaker. You may get tired and may even get a headache with long reading hours, but th...
Actually, Zipper brought this on themselves. The game has an incredibly steep learning curve for an FPS and requires teamwork with random strangers on the internet, and yet, it comes with no training mode or documentation that even explains incredibly basic things like what the icons on the HUD mean, or what the objectives and layouts of the game modes, bleed out, healing, respawning, what the icons near other players mean, what the symbols on the maps represent, etc. The tutorial is quite li...
