Outside of doing continuing to have an easy platform for developers to use, I wouldn’t ask for much.
1. BC cause I’ve spent a lot of money on the indie/digital only titles this go around.
2. A 4K player. Not obviously a necessity but it would nice to not have flip from the PlayStation to Xbox to watch a 4K disc.
3. A quieter machine... my Pro continually requires me to turn up and down the volume on the tv depending on fan noise.
4. Though not a ...
This is actually correct. I can’t remember if it was in an interview with the Stardew developer early last year or not but an indie developer said one of the biggest reasons indie games thrive on the Nintendo market place is because they don’t compete against Nintendo games ie virtual console games. It’s a smart business/ relations decision by Nintendo to give those developers a chance to thrive on their own. We all know a virtual console of some sorts is coming, that’s just leaving money ...
His “friends” didn’t technically throw him under the bus. I’m sure without doubt their finacers gave them an ultimatum in this whole ordeal. His “friends” obviously choose not to stand by him but to degree it was probably more business than anything. Was it a crappy move? Of course, but business is also business.
Ahhh I wouldn’t go as far as to say “legend.” Notable, sure. While his infamous joke was harmless, it was a poor business decision. I always enjoyed his takes on all things PlayStation... it’s when he stepped outside those realms he generally had off beat and highly disagreeable opinions. I’m sure he’ll step back into gaming opinions again, probably (and hopefully) after our current US political landscape mellows out.
Yeah me neither. I mean the Xbox one just had one of the worst launches ever, price, specs, and mandatory crap killed it. Then obviously there first couple of years worth of exclusives; while good, just weren’t good enough to really get them going again. I personally believe they should just call it Xbox, and fully embrace the idea of continuous upgrading model a la PC. It makes sense for them business wise. If they ever get around to doing what Spencer what’s them to do and that’s grow a...
I wonder how much of that digital revenue is mobile, and from the APAC markets. But that’s a crazy number.
The Switch is “technically” next gen, but given how mid-gen upgrades have sort of muddled what we traditionally would expect a next gen console to be... it will very interesting to see what Microsoft and Sony do next.
I think it would great if Sony didn’t launch a handheld. No one wants to see them stretched too thin. They are producing stellar 1st party titles to likes to which they have never produced before. I for one am enjoying their games way too much to see anything take a hit quality wise, to just release another handheld.
I think “Nintendo fanactics” would be perfectly fine with the release of another Sony handheld, given the history. Apparently you’re not fine with your own commentary given how you feel the need to log into your other accounts to give yourself upvotes...
@MVGeneral if though this probably been said 80 billion times but when manufacturers accounce shipped, it means sold. They have zero way of actually counting individual units sold per retailer.
I believe this should be re-titled “why Sony shouldn’t copy Microsoft’s gamepass.” Or at least the every new Microsoft developed game released shows up on game pass. Because as it’s been stated Sony has its own game pass... PSNow.
It’s not only that but the amount of digital content there potentially would be. Even for some across the US with ok-decent internet there are still data caps. Honestly if the three I think Sony would be the last to go all digital as they still make money (very little) from Blu-ray Discs.
@MakoD yep its definitely is up to a developer and the design. I’ve never been a big proponent of “more power = better gaming or next gen” stuff. It will be a diminishing rate of returns in terms of this gen to the next especially if the focus is solely based upon graphic fidelity. Fundamentaly I haven’t played a game this gen that couldn’t have been played last gen... I guess this “old fart” is just hoping for something new/innovative.
@makoD well stated, AI behavior/simulation is where I would like to see the next generation leap. Farcry 5 being the most recent culprit of “dumb” enemy AI, or at least behavior limitations that have been around for past two gens. I’m not picking on Farcry as many many games have very easy to memorize behavior. The best or at least the most unpredictable enemny was the Alien in Alien Isolation.
I mean there will be a definite diminishing rate of returns as we progress in terms of graphic fidelity, i for one would like just two things to make that “next gen” leap and that’s the option for stable 60fps on any freaking game and perhaps not facing the same AI we’ve basically been playing against for well over a decade.
Why is that a bad thing? I mean obviously Sony has a base model/philosophy for their games to be 3rd person cinematic driven games and over the past 10 yrs it’s worked extremely well. It’s no different than Nintendo’s Mario platforming model that’s worked so well form them over the past several decades. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
I see them just about every week either at Target or Bestbuy... but never Walmart or GameStop.
It’s par for the course here. Many of whom don’t “want to get it.”
Definitely a fun a game. I would have given it a 8.5-8. The graphics are beautiful, though the character models look a little dated to me. Swimming is horrible, the AI is still pretty bad, for whatever reason dead enemies disappear once you clear an area so you can’t loot them, but cheeseburger... the best pet a dude could have out in the wilderness. Combat is still really fun and the world is pretty damn large... it’s very easy to get lost in.
