Overt contemporary political themes in games is a quick way to lose customers.
Kudos to Sony for letting Media Molecule make this title and gave them the time to do so in their own manner. Sony clearly loves to foster and support creative development studios. I suspect this game will play great on PS4 and continue on long into the PS5 years.
You realize Azure is just a platform. Pre-cloud days companies bought servers of which many ran MS software and services. Azure is not the only cloud platform either. Sony doesn't need to be a cloud provider to still be very successful in the gaming space. I wouldn't conflate Azure business with the xbox business at MS. Two very distinct Lines of Business at MS.
If the expectation is that PS4 / X1 games are compatible with the next gen, then there is no need for a next gen port. I can’t imagine Ubisoft wants to invest resources in areas which are unnecessary.
This is a great example of the risks to a streaming future. Being at the mercy of losing access to games. It’ll turn into streaming video services like Hulu, Amazon, Netflix, etc. You’ll need more than 1 service to play the games you want. So regardless of the technical merits and convenience of streaming, the business model will taint the whole platform for consumers.
I'd play some gen 1 and gen 2 games. Surely not as much as I'd play current and next gen games but I'd still play them. Whether for nostalgia or just because they were great games, it's just great to have that option.
Yep, click-bait opinion piece written for the purpose of triggering some people. Don't waste your time.
I read the comment which stated "that can be profitable during its lifetime". I suppose that might mean taking a loss on hardware sales initially to keep the price point competitive on launch. Over time the hardware becomes cheaper to manufacture and using software and services to make up revenue which was lost with the initial hardware purchase. But that's just a guess on my part.
Lies, Damn Lies, and Statistics. Marketing people will contort any numbers to suit their needs.
PS has a huge advantage. Install base. Many will not switch platforms unless some major blunder occurs. For myself, I will own both consoles as I did this gen.
Doom 2016 was really fun to play. I have high expectations for a sequel. I hope it meets them.
It is great for consumers there are no Series X exclusives at launch. I don't have to consider a Series X purchase for a while. I'll buy the PS5 first.
Unless Sony really drops the ball then I think it is highly unlikely Sony is bested by MS's Xbox globally. However, I think Xbox can be really good in it's own right. MS needs to give their studios time and don't meddle too much in their creative process. Let creators create. I also expect we will see some increased 3rd party game cross platform play online.
I like the Xbox clubs feature. I've met and played with a bunch of people I otherwise would not have. But it could use improvements. I find it much easier to use on my tablet or on the XBox app in Windows 10. But I hope they would not drop the feature entirely unless it is replaced with something else.
As for typing, I use my phone to type on the console. I suspect the next gen consoles will have better voice to txt dictation capabilities which are more convenient to ac...
The Witcher 3 is a fantastic game. CDPR sold the game DRM free on GOG and offered multiple DLC content for free. Plus, CDPR's expansions for the game are excellent and were sold at a very reasonable cost. So for the quality of the game and the overall cost, yes CDPR is superior than most.
Kudos to the submitter and site for having specific links for US and EU. Always appreciated.
AMD said they use 'fake' cpu id's etc to avoid leaks. So I'd not get too over confident.
I think companies like MS and Sony think broader than just the cost of the unit. Attach rate, services, etc which usually accompany hardware purchase factor in to unit selling price. Companies often take a loss on hardware and try to make up the difference and then some with software and service offerings. I expect neither company will go over $499 and perhaps may try for lower. Over time of course the price point of the OG units will drop as mid gen models are released.
A great game for it's day. Today's PC game does have 3rd party (non official) multiplayer servers hosting modules not available in the base game. But kudos to Beamdog for porting the base game to console.
Wow BG3 this year? That'd be great. I have high hopes that Larian Studios will produce a great game
