Ordered a copy yesterday. Extremely rare I pre-order any games but between how good this game looks and an expiring store discount I figured better get it. I've been keeping away from any story spoilers.
I would not be surprised the game sells better on PS4. Many of the players on xbox will use gamepass to play it on console or pc. So for outright sales, that leaves PS4 owners as they'd need to buy or rent it to play. Makes no difference to me where ppl play it. Obsidian hopefully has done a nice job on this game.
That's what I am doing currently, finishing the campaign. Enjoying it so far.

Perhaps the PS5 controller will be different and lack touch controls like DS4 does? I think a large majority of games from PS4 will be supported.

The Java version and mod scene on PC is excellent. Can't say as much for the non Java version.
That's a good question. Nothing is full proof. Perhaps go by the reputation of the publisher in previously released games. Games don't need to be purchased day 1. Publishers market games to maximize hype as part of their marketing strategy. We all know this. For example, I was initially looking forward to Anthem. Sure glad I held off from ever purchasing it.
Both good reasons to not pre-order games and wait for opinions of people you trust after full game release. I tend to avoid review sites and prefer to talk to friends or watch some streams. At this point, it would appear this is yet another game I just avoid purchasing.
The quality of gwg has suffered since the introduction of gamepass.
To be fair a review score is not a school grade. I think their comment is based on that which a publication defines for each number in their scale. For example, one sites defines their 3 out fo 5 as "Competitive. It isn’t the best choice, but good qualities outweigh the bad ones". So that would seemingly correlate to a 6 out of 10. I would not base a purchasing decision solely upon Gamespot. Watch some streams and videos and you may discover it is a game of your liking.

I will trust CDPR's design choices. I have no reason at this point to think the game, in first-person, is not the right choice. They have earned the benefit of the doubt from me.
My Switch is very comfortable in handheld if I use my Satisfye grip. Highly recommend this for adult sized hands.
I can just imagine that many reviewers will play the very easy mode to get through the game as quick as possible so they can write their review. Thus their analysis won't be a review based on the game difficulty many people will play but rather a story critique and some extrapolation of how difficult the game must be based on their very easy mode experience. Extending a game is one thing. I agree that is good. But I think the business practice also leads to companies pairing back a game's scope on initial release in order to further monetize a title by adding that content back in later. It leaves a bad taste in one's mouth when you feel like an easy mark.
