They could reboot the series, whether they're willing to do that is another thing. It doesn't have to be a perfect replica of the best games in the series, base it on the first two games and build upon that.
You can get most of it's games on PS4 anyway, if you have enough money left after getting a Switch, then I would invest in a decent gaming PC, that way you would pretty much get all the best games with only a very small number of exclusives left out (I'm assuming we're not including handhelds in the discussion).
I don't know about bold choices, but the series has been in decline for a long time and hasn't improved. They can produced some good games, but the series overall is a shell of it's former self. At this point, I think we can say the series is too big to fail and can just survive on brand name alone even though the quality isn't there anymore.
I really want a street racing game with lots of customization but nothing really fills that niche.
Sorry I clicked, but after reading the article, yeah, it's clickbait. Shutting down minor features on games does not "severely cripple" them. I didn't even use most of those online features on Gravity Rush 2.
I just get the impression that Square has alot of internal strife, the majority of their most talented staff have left the company.
If I remember correctly people made fun of the original Xbox until it got Halo and then it got popular (Xbox still did bring other good features like a proper online network, hard drives, ect...). My memory could be hazy though cause I was in my mid to late teens at the time. In that gen, the PS2 was still the best, the 360/ps3/Wii gen was a mixture of good stuff and fails though.
@HowBoutDat,
The PS4 went in a different direction compared to the PS3, I'm not surprised they charged for online play (to be fair, it's not a terrible price and you do get free games, the last few months have been good for free games) and dropped the Linux option. They could add the other features you mentioned, but it seems like they have no intention for whatever reason.
Hasn't the game already been heavily discounted as it is, they can't really go much lower without giving it away for free (not that I would complain since I wasn't going to buy it to begin with).
Can't you check in-game? Most games will give you a summary of playtime (sometimes it's on the save file screen), inconvenient but it works.
I would really like PS1/2/3 emulation but it's not easy to do and Sony already said no because they don't see many people using it.
Why does someone say we missed out on "essential features" every time there is a major update? Personally I think we got almost everything we wanted, there's not much more I could ask for at this point.
@Teflon02,
Oh god this, I waited for the PC version to get fixed, but it looks like Square-Enix still hasn't corrected most of the issues, so I caved and bought the PS4 version. It's becoming a trend for the PC to get sub par ports, but at least this looks nice.
If Frozen Wild is anywhere near as good as the original game without DLC, than I really hope they do another expansion sometime down the road.
@-foxtrot,
I'll predict probably not, since most kick-starters fail,but we'll see.
I expect the Xone to look better, but I'm unsure how much better it'll look. You'd have to sit the consoles side by side with the same games for a good comparison
I think it was more of a cost thing that birthed the ps4 and Xone, that and the cell was difficult to develop for, hence they didn't go that route with the ps4. Personally I find resolution more important as the screen size gets bigger, 1080p on a big screen is awful. I don't know want a new gen until the costings are cheap enough to to give us a decent leap over the ps4/Xone.
Checkeckerboarding is a form of upscaling, so it's like a trick to make the game look like that resolution if the hardware isn't strong enough to push those extra pixels (it's not that the developers can't do it). Your question does get more complicated, especially when we talk about textures and optimisation, but that's the long and short of it. Neither console can consistently output native 4k, it depends heavily on how how demanding the game is. E.g Horizon Dawn is more...
@beepbeepnmyjeep, clearly your technical knowledge is less than mine, but then again, I have a diploma in IT and did build/repair pcs for a living at one stage (try not to be a dick about it). A 1080ti only just manages 4k at 60fps depending on the game, don't forget it's four times the pixels that GPU has to push, personally I'd prefer more fps.
@chisadamson, that tells us little apart from what we already know, we can only have a educated guess at what perform...
I disagree, the xbox hardware is fine, however I think they over spent/developed the OneX, but lol, opinions. It's software that's really killing them, they need some exclusive titles to make it stand out from a PS4 or a PC or even a Switch.
I found VR technology to be nothing but a disappointment so far, no reason for Microsoft to dive into that failure of a trend at this point (unless they somehow come up with a killer app that makes VR a must have).
