i didn't play much of it, but i really liked it. i've been meaning to pick it up so i can actually sit down with it.

i loved the art style and the music, and the battle system was pretty good also.

i think it's an underappreciated JRPG.

people love to be dramatic about the JRPG genre this generation, but there are some quality JRPGs out there if you actually take the time to look.

most console gamers aren't fatigued by more Western RPGs, bec...

but i'd like to note the variety of genre represented in the PlayStation list in comparison to the 360 list.

9 out of the 10 games on the 360 list are shooters, or have shooter elements. i'm sure if Turn 10 could have logically found a way to put guns in Forza, they would have. lol.

on the flip side, the PS3 list is a lot broader, catering to more than just one demographic. 4 out of the 10 games listed feature a shooter element, with only ONE being a true shooter, Ki...

some of it has been around for a while; ie, most gaming publications highlight the titles/franchises that don't necessarily need to be pimped to high heaven; the Final Fantasies, Halos, Metal Gears, etc, while ignoring, denying coverage of games that could actually USE the exposure; the Beyond Good and Evils, Zack and Wikis, and Demon's Souls; as an aside, Demon's Souls didn't get ANY real coverage/praise until it was released.

while a lot of it is really new to this generation: ...

all you have to do is ask this question:

Does Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo own the rights to the "exclusive" released on their platform?

if the answer is "No," then more than likely, the franchise will move to multi-plat.

Ubisoft owns Splinter Cell.
EA owns Mass Effect.
Epic owns Gears of War.

ANY ONE of those franchises could hit the PS3.

on the flip side,

MS owns Halo.

the PS2 has one of the best gaming libraries of all time. couple that with it's backwards compatibility with the PS1, and you have one of the best gaming consoles of all time.

i got a PS3 and 360 because i like to see the evolution of the gaming industry. i like to see it grow and evolve.

games like Uncharted 2 are more than just graphics.

video games are a visual medium as well. you don't NEED great graphics to make an enjoyable game, but some of the be...

when you have fanboys wanting games to look as good as PS3 exclusives.

it really does seem like only yesterday when people were comparing EVERY game to Gears of War.

now you have everyone comparing every game to Uncharted 2, or Killzone 2, or God of War 3, or Heavy Rain. ALL PlayStation 3 exclusives.

as for Alan Wake, i've said numerous times before that it looks amazing, easily the best-looking 360 game i think i've seen (based on videos only; i'll rese...

i didn't realize they'd do that if you took too long. lol.

the battle system is definitely in my list of favorite RPG battle systems (along with Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Grandia 3, and White Knight Chronicles, Xenosaga had a really good one too.)

but i got to wrapped up in my epic rant. lol.

i usually do a mix of both auto-battle and manual entry of my skills.

hell, while battling a certain boss in Chapter 10, i had no choice but to really go back and forth between auto and manual.

overall, i think the battle system is so well implemented, and more importantly, it's BRISK.

as much as i love older FFs, i NEVER enjoyed them because of the battle system. it was all about the story. i ab...

about this particular top 20 showing is that it really highlights the particular demographics of the consoles really well.

the PlayStation is known to have a strong following in the Action/Adventure and RPG genres, and the top sellers for the PS3 were God of War 3 with 1.10 million units, and Final Fantasy XIII, with 828,000 units.

on the flip side the PS3 only sold 451,000 units of Battlefield Bad Company 2, an FPS.

the Xbox 360, however, which is known...

how the story is paced.

so many JRPGs you can accurately pinpoint the "whos, whats, wheres, hows, and whys," but FFXIII is very much like a mystery, in that you are dropped en medias res, and have no frigging idea what is going on, who the characters are, or what their motivations are.

the use of flashbacks, and character revelations are extremely well done.

i love that me and my wife just couldn't piece everything together from minute one.

720p native visuals, and 1080p native cutscenes.
One Blu Ray disc, as opposed to 3.
The game was developed on the PlayStation 3 as lead platform.
I own and can play Final Fantasy I, II, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, and XII on my Playstation 3, and wanted to "keep it in the family."

it'd be like buying Gears of War 1 and 2 on the Xbox, and then Gears 3 hits the Playstation 3, and you get the PS3 version. it just seems weird to me.

enjoyable God of War 3 is.

i'm glad that SSM's masterpiece of a game is being played by lots of people, but all that mattered to me was getting it home and experiencing it myself.

some of you guys concern yourselves too much with things that have NOTHING to do with your enjoyment of video games.

one of my favorite games of all time (Ico), sold TERRIBLY. embarrassingly bad.

Beyond Good and Evil, another favorite of mine, also sold terribly. ...

Sony and their claims of PS3 shortages, but like i said in the NPD post, i went to 4 different stores here in Los Angeles; Fry's Electronics, Target, Best Buy, and Wal Mart, and every single last one was sold out of Playstation 3s.

i wanted to buy one for my wife for our anniversary (as well as an HDTV).

and also, as i said in the other story, 360's and Wii's weren't bountiful either. i think the story may have had 2 or so of them in stock.

it just seems...

Fry's Electronics, Best Buy, Target, and Wal Mart, and all 3 were sold out of Playstation 3's.

i was trying to get a Slim for my wife for her anniversary, and i didn't really want to buy one online.

i'm not making excuses, since i don't give a rats ass about sales numbers, but i don't think Sony was lying when they said PS3 stock would be tight.

i live in Los Angeles CA, one of the largest cities in the US, and yet finding a PS3 in store is EXTREMELY dif...

it would simply take more thinking out of the box, and re-evaluating what "sandbox" really means.

also, i think sandbox is almost a misnomer. most games that are "sandbox" are really "open-world," because most of the time you don't have ANY type of real interaction with the world to warrant it being a sandbox. look at the Spider-Man games. not sandbox. open-world. all you do is swing around. you aren't really "playing the game any way you want,&...

gaming experiences of this generation, and generations before were franchises.

Castlevania
Super Mario Bros
Metal Gear
Final Fantasy
Halo
Metroid
The Legend of Zelda
Mega Man
Resident Evil
Devil May Cry
etc, etc.

there are genuinely GOOD franchises, like the ones i mentioned above, and there are poor franchises (ie, just about anything from Activision these days), and THOSE are the ones killing the industry,...

and it BRICKS the living sh*t out of all of the PS3's of people stupid enough to install it.

Geohotz is one of the reasons why we get insane DRM. Geohotz is one of the reasons why platforms like the PSP suffer and struggle, despite having FANTASTIC game libraries (if the PSP library was so sh*t, why the hell would people be pirating the games?).

i'm really looking forward to seeing Geohotz get his comeuppance, because he will, and all of his supporters are going to b...

so i'm looking forward to this one as well.

don't know when we'll get the English version, since the JP version is hitting this year.

as for the visuals, it looks pretty much the same.

i imagine it's because the overall style of WKC is very anime to begin with. a lot of other JRPGs are trying to go the "Advent Children" route, and make things look realistic, while Level 5 is doing what they've always done well; present more "cartoony"...
