Microsoft may have just gotten a taste of what it was like to be Sony back in 2006-2008, when the PS3 was unveiled, and the gaming media completely SHIT ALL OVER IT.

so far this entire generation, the gaming press has been kissing Microsoft's ass. not this time.

i'm still reserving my own personal judgment of Kinect, but this early impression from the gaming press that couldn't keep the hyperbole out of their coverage of the 360 for 5 years now is...

it's all a big PR tactic, but it WORKS.

they are coming off as very human in this new ad campaign, and that's make consumers more willing to get in your corner.

the product speaks for itself, so consumers don't always need the corporate posturing and boasting that goes on most of the time.

Kevin Butler was the best thing to happen to Sony PR this entire generation.

their pride got in the way early on, but the &quo...

people are so surprised that the Pre-Alpha of Killzone 3 is looking so good.

the engine is already firmly in place.

Guerrilla Games did all the hard work in the 4 years it took them to develop Killzone 2, which, if i recall, is STILL one of the best looking console games of the entire generation thus far.

Killzone 3 is simply a further refinement of the Killzone 2 engine, so of COURSE it's going to look fantastic.

what...

this has already been the most exciting lead up to E3 i've ever encountered.

i'm interested to see what MS and Nintendo have cooked up, but Sony hasn't disappointed me.

even if they don't announce another thing (HIGHLY UNLIKELY, as Sony ALWAYS announces at least 2 or 3 new IPs at their press conferences, along with sequels to established games, but they got the sequels out of the way early), i'd be content.

SOCOM 4, Little...

game.

it certainly isn't perfect, but the pacing, settings, and even story are rather well done. there's a surprising amount of variety compared to Killzone 2. if they remade Killzone 1 with the Killzone 2 engine, and changed nothing but the visuals, i think people would be really surprised at how good it actually is. the technical issues marred Killzone 1. the game design was solid.

i played the game on my PS3 a few years back, and interestingly enou...

like Uncharted and Uncharted 2, because Heavenly Sword, to this day, still boasts some of the best character animations (in game and in cutscenes; especially the cutscenes) in the industry.

the fact that i could mute my TV and READ Nariko and Kai's LIPS during cutscenes is a testament to Ninja Theory's motion capture and animations studio.

on a GRAPHICAL level, however, Uncharted 2 leaves Enslaved in the dust. the texture work alone is better than any...

could have more than just marketing connotations for the motion controller/3D.

the PS3 has been the whipping boy of the industry for a long time.

this ramp up to E3, Sony has been firing on all cylinders.

it started with the price drop last year, buoyed by strong software (Uncharted 2, Demon's Souls, Ratchet and Clank, God of War 3, etc), and now Motion Controls and 3D gaming.

this could be the E3/Year that REALLY changes...

it has great features, and great exclusive titles, as well as great multi-platform titles.

if you already own a Wii or 360, no reason NOT to pick up a PS3.

if you had to choose just ONE platform out of the 3, the PS3 is the better value for your dollar, and you wouldn't be missing much.

i only own an Xbox 360 and PS3, and between those two, i'm pretty set. i don't have many games on my 360 (i stick with the exclusives, as i prefer...

all working on PS3 titles. we've only seen 6 of those titles. also, many studios are working on more than one IP (Santa Monica Studios have admitted that they are working on two titles. Insomniac is working on THREE, with only ONE being multi-platform, the other two are PS3 exclusive).

Sony certainly are spoiling their fanbase though. SO MANY awesome games to look forward to.

i don't NEED the announcements to be made at E3, as long as the announcement...

because the gaming media blew a gasket on the PS3 back in 2006, it shamed Sony and Ken Kutaragi so much that the platform was seemingly going under, that Sony "promoted" Ken out of the PlayStation division.

now, 4 years later, that same gaming media is licking the ballsack of the PS3 brand and Sony, and hailing Ken as a genius and innovator, when they were having such a ball calling him "Krazy Ken," and "The man who killed PlayStation."

big risks on unproven technology and somehow finding a way to make it successful.

they get a lot of flack for it at the beginning (like DVD in the PS2, and Blu Ray in the PS3), but in the end it pays off, and the very same people that shat on the idea when Sony first presented it can't wait to lap it up and kiss ass.

i remember when DVD was going to be the "death" of the PS2. and that DVD didn't actually do anything to improve gaming, and th...

being offered, but not first party.

as far as i've seen, there's yet to be a first and second party PS3 title that is less than 15gigs (not counting games already offered for DD like Warhawk, Siren, GT5: Prologue, and SOCOM: Confrontation).

third party titles, however, may be fair game, and a good idea to boot.

there are a few games i most certainly wouldn't mind having on my HDD for easy boot up.

but instead of the Giant Enemy Crab entry (which was still funny), i'd have put the Killzone 2 real time demo.

after all the shit-talking and mud-flinging the gaming press lobbed at Sony, the PS3, and Guerrilla Games about how Killzone 2 "could NEVER POSSIBLY REACH" the target render, not this generation, not ever, Guerrilla Games embarrassed the industry by confidently walking on stage and playing Killzone 2 for 15 minutes during Sony's E3 Press Conference,...

because the Sly Cooper games were awesome, and inFAMOUS 1 was awesome.

if they had just copy-pasted inFAMOUS 1 and slapped a 2 on the end, it would still be awesome.

judging from the Game Informer article, however, they've improved SO MUCH from the original that it seems nearly impossible for them to make it any WORSE.

it's more than possible that it could have sold more. ZING!

in all seriousness, i doubt it.

the survival horror genre is, sadly, painfully underepresented this generation.

there have been only a handful of TRUE survival horror games released so far: Siren: Blood Curse, and Dead Space.

Resident Evil and Dead Rising were more action games that straight up horror, and Silent Hill: Homecoming was an embarrassment to the serie...

but because of the way the narrative was set up, we barely know ANYTHING about Cole McGrath as a character. we know more about Zeke and Trish than we do Cole.

here is Cole in a nutshell, as portrayed in inFAMOUS 1:

1) He was a bike messenger.
2) He had a relationship with Trish (we are left to assume it was good, but we don't know that, as we only see them interact when Trish is chewing him out the ENTIRE GAME)
3) His best friends name is ...

the images are low resolution, but that first up close image of Cole, the second scan, i think, looks like it doesn't have any jaggies. apparently, the jaggies seemed to be this insurmountable issue for some gamers (especially on Neogaf), and it made them want to vomit a million times whenever they looked at the game.

inFAMOUS is still one of my favorite games of last year (next to Ratchet: ACIT, Uncharted 2, and Demon's Souls). so i'm fricking STOKED for inFAMOUS...

but i DO love Ape Escape.

i'd get the MOVE for Ape Escape. it's the platforms "killer app" for me. lol.

i've never been huge into SOCOM, although i'm sure SOCOM 4 is going to kick ass (it's already looking great, and the series IS quality; i'm just not big into super realistic, tactical shooters).

there's just something about whacking those pesky monkeys over the head with your club that's so damn enj...
