maybe Santa Monica Studios and Naughty Dog (both based in Santa Monica, CA), will give them a hand with tech, meaning better PS3 titles (Dark Cloud 3 benefiting from God of War 3's MLAA and Uncharted's texture work and streaming tech would be AMAZING).
i dropped $650 on my PS3 back in early 2007, so i didn't have a problem with dropping the extra $8.99 it cost me to get an HDMI cable from newegg.
places like Best Buy prey on the naivety of the average consumer who thinks that $80 is a reasonable price for HDMI cables, or that, because the cable COSTS $80, that makes it a quality cable.
my $9 cable has done everything it's needed to do, and i still have it connected to my PS3 now. i even have a secon...
in both software AND hardware.
i remember that Ape Escape on the PS1 was one of the first games to REQUIRE the dual analog controller. of course, Sega also had their analog controller requirement with Nights, but Ape Escape utilized the controller in creative ways (using the analog sticks to row boats, control RC cars while also controlling your character, using items/weapons with the right stick instead of face buttons as usual).
they also take a LOT of risk...
but i HATE Activision.
i will never buy an Activision game new again.
i already devoted over 5 years of my live working for the bastards, and i used to buy their games at full price, day one. but not anymore.
i simply can't devote my money to a company that views it's employees as nothing but cattle, and their customers as walking wallets.
the gaming industry is most certainly a business designed to make money, but th...
and me and my wife are both disappointed in the ending. i mean, if it was a movie, that ending would have been BRILLIANT. but as an ending to an open world game, in which you continue playing well after the story is complete, it felt a little strange. such a brilliant game anyway though. the best GTA game i've played since San Andreas.
i'm still going for 100% completion, but i really don't feel too compelled to do so now.
i really hope that was v...
and having actually GROWN UP with the Zelda's of old, I can say that 3D Dot Game Heroes does the homage justice.
The game is so full of references and nods to an era that I won't be able to relive that I can't help but fall in love with it.
It's charming, endearing, and genuinely fun to play.
It takes the tried and true Zelda formula from the 80's and updates it in more than just visuals (some of the tweaks to the formula,...
He said that that was like, David Jaffe's original concept.
It's a cool concept, but I really like what they did with Kratos in the story.
I think I'd prefer it if they tackled each mythology in it's own world and setting. After a while, the Kratos taking down various myths would have felt gimmicky.
I think going the Final Fantasy route with the GoW franchise would be better: that is, different story, world, and characters wit...
i have a BC PS3, and the game simply wasn't made for HD upscaling. it's a pixelated mess on the PS3. a lot of those "year one" PS2 games, that simply weren't designed for HD televisions have that issue. it was before progressive tv sets picked up steam back then.
Shadow of the Colossus being upscaled via my PS3, however, looks fantastic.
a real HD upgrade to both would be wonderful, though.
but that article title is quite the spoiler for those that have yet to play GoW3 for whatever reason.
i think that the Kratos story line was wrapped up awesomely, and i'd like the God of War franchise to move on with a new protagonist, in a different mythology (my top picks are Japanese Mythology, Chinese Mythology, Egyptian Mythology, and maybe Norse Mythology).
the franchise has a lot of potential beyond Kratos, and this will give Santa Monica Studios t...
this type of love BEFORE going multi-platform.
despite them constantly receiving "best developer to work for" awards for nearly 3 years straight, most of the gaming media was content in hating on their games for no reason.
Insomniac is a talented, driven bunch of individuals that understand that even though gaming is a business designed to make money, the work place doesn't have to be a slave camp (Activision has yet to get the memo on this, how...
double dipping for the God of War Collection, but i'm glad i did.
i didn't think there'd be much reason to play them in HD, but the crisper presentation and smoother framerate just makes it so much so worth it.
to have Ico and Shadow of the Colossus presented in HD, with anti-aliasing and a smoother framerate (especially SOTC) would be heaven.
i regularly replay those games on my PS3 (yeah, i have a BC PS3, but i'd much rather...
God of War 3
Heavy Rain
Red Dead Redemption
i haven't played Alan Wake yet, and Mass Effect 2 was a big disappointment for me. i still think it's a solid title, but the story, and some of the game play mechanics were far under ME1 (the whole planet scanning "mini-game," which is required for some end game stuff unless you want some surprises later on, was simply NOT FUN. it was tedious and boring).
there have been some impres...
i was on the multi-player team on Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and i was surprised that it was as enjoyable as it was, but Luxo had a lot of plans for the game that had to be scrapped.
they also knew that they could have made the game LOOK so much better had they been given the time from Activision, but NOOOO, it had to release before the movie.
Activision doesn't give two shits about game quality. they know name alone will sell their swill, so th...
Sony certainly has no shortage of developers.
i find it so funny to look back at the gaming press hopping on the "PS3 has no gamezzzz!" bandwagon, and completely ignoring the trend that previous PlayStation consoles have started.
year 1 is ALWAYS full of whiny developers complaining about how difficult the platform is to develop on. the quality of games is usually weak. the gaming media questions if Sony knows what they want the PlayStation to be an...
this corporate greed is really starting to affect the quality of gaming. in particular from multi-platform developers.
it's fortunate, however, that companies like Naughty Dog, Bioware, Insomniac, Sucker Punch, etc, are given the freedom to follow their ideas, instead of cookie-cuttering some established and successful formula like FPS.
i can't tell you how much i've enjoyed the latest resurgence of action/adventure games like Heavenly Sword, Dark...
the E3 press conference to cover new IP announcements.
so far, the only things "leaked" before E3 have been sequel announcements (SOCOM 4, LBP2, Killzone 3, inFAMOUS 2).
anyone thinking Sony is blowing their load early is forgetting that they have 21 1st party studios, and 9 second party studios all developing titles exclusively for the PS3.
also, it's very possible that they are going to spend a lot of their press conference ta...
children better?
as far as the way children have been represented in gaming, Heavy Rain is, at LEAST, one of the best.
the children in Fable 2 aren't too bad either.
very few video games even BOTHER to implement children (i always wonder how these societies flourish when there are NEVER any children around?), and Heavy Rain did a great job of creating children that, even though their voice acting was weak (in the American version; i haven...
that is all.
i worked at Obsidian back on Neverwinter Nights 2, when Alpha Protocol was still in the prototyping stages, and they were trying to sell it to Sega.
they had made this cool little video montage of spy/espionage movies that they presented to Sega to show them the type of feel they wanted for the game.
i remember the early concept art and screenshots of the game, and it is VERY DIFFERENT from what the final product turned out to be. if i remember correctly, the...
Enslaved = Unreal Engine 3
Uncharted 2 = Best looking video game ever created.
Heavenly Sword looks better than Enslaved.
It's no coincidence that both Uncharted and Heavenly Sword use their own proprietary engines, optimized to run on the PS3.
Even to this day, Heavenly Sword is a beautiful game.
Funny how everyone wants to lavish praise on Ninja Theory NOW that they're multi-platform, but hand nothi...
