Agreed. I have a Wii, but it is priced a bit high now at $250. Big N has probably turned a profit on each one sold since day one. But they've done just fine with a cheaper 360 on the market, and they still undercut the revamped PS3.

They COULD leave the price as-is (I kinda doubt they will, though), and probably be set up just fine for the next gen. They're finishing up another Zelda and another Galaxy for Wii; after that, they're probably going to start developing on next-ge...

Worthy score, IMO (although I'm admittedly biased; I love Metroid). The graphics can't help but look a bit dated, but Retro's art direction still awes.

But this one thing (and it's splitting hairs, I know) kills me:

"...the removal of gamepad support will no doubt be missed by many..."

Really? Who are these "many" people?

This same complaint came from Ars Technica. Have these reviewers actually played the original LATE...

Fully customizable controls + well done cel shading + great art style = win

Don't screw this up, Ubi.

Finally...a perfect score for this.

I'm way too biased at this point to be objective about the trilogy, but it's not a stretch to call all three games AAA titles. And getting them with upgraded controls and visuals for the price of one game? That's an epic win, IMO. Deserving of the highest score.

(One comment I don't understand is about "hand cramping" with the controls. I haven't had any more pain in my hands playing with the remote/nunchuck as with a...

I think it could have plenty of potential. Same with Sony's wand.

EA said they had to tone down the fidelity of Motion Plus just to work with Tiger Woods 10, so there's room for more precision with existing tech (which was darn close to 1:1), and Microsoft and Sony could potentially do more with their controllers.

I'm in the "why not?" camp. I can't go back to dual analog for a FPS now. Or a golf sim. Motion controls have their place. It's just not rig...

They left one out IGN lists in its review:

http://wii.ign.com/articles...

Specifically, bloom lighting throughout the original...which I imagine is going to look incredible, as it still stands up graphically to this day.

"It's no blockbuster release."

What the heck is the author smoking? It's three AAA titles for the price of one. It's two of the Gamecube's premier titles given a VASTLY superior control overhaul, plus Corruption.

There's texture improvements throughout, and the original now has bloom lighting throughout the whole thing...and these are for games that, to this day, still look amazing (because Retro has arguably the greatest art direction of any dev out ther...

Y'know...after reading this...I kinda wish there was a way for Retro to release Hunters on Wii, too.

That's when you know you're being greedy -- three AAA titles for $50, and I'm asking for more.

NexGen -- You'll need access to the buttons on the remote.

There is an auto-lock on the advanced setting, but it's more of a screen/camera lock. It's not an auto aim. Your view gets fixed to an enemy, but you still have to aim the Wiimote to where you want to shoot. And, of course, you could just leave that be and free aim the whole time, if you really wanted to.

Yeah, I'm not sure why people would be nostalgic for the Cube controls. Gamesradar posted a comparison video:

http://www.gamesradar.com/w...

If that doesn't cure you of nostalgia for the old control scheme, nothing will.

lol

An Okami sequel would only be good on the PS3 or 360? Are you guys kidding? The one thing that makes the original timeless is the graphics, and they aren't about super realism or the number of polys onscreen. It's art direction, art style and cel shading. Obviously, you can already do this style on Wii. And there's room to do it better, to be honest, since the console is just NOW starting to get pushed by third parties.

Plus, the celestial brush works a hec...

PS3is4D -- To be fair, the closest thing to rank this compilation with is Orange Box, and IGN gave that a 9.5, too:

http://xbox360.ign.com/arti...

Heck, SMG "only" got a 9.7 (and was 2K7 GOTY), so a 9.5 seems reasonable to me.

That said, there's a lot of reviewers who probably wish they could take back perfect scores. It's easy to give one of those when a huge, hyped ...

Just throwing all the games together and implementing Corruption's control scheme would've been more than worth it.

But they put full bloom lighting throughout the whole original. They balanced some of the difficulty spikes in Echoes. The loads in Corruption are quicker. And the blurriest textures got sharpened up in all three.

This is full of epic, epic win.

And I bashed on IGN a little earlier...so I have to commend them on this review. None of the...

I was a lapsed Zelda player before TP, so I'm biased. I played the whole way through the original, LttP and OoT, then TP when it dropped. I went back for WW (and MM), which I enjoyed...but not as much as TP.

It's not popular to say...but up to this point, TP is the "best" game, IMO. It's huge. The graphics are great (people trash on it for no reason; look at the water effects!). Next to Majora's Mask, it has the best story (and Midna is hands down the best sidekick...

Umm...you can already play Prime 1 and 2 with the old controller on Wii.

"Why remove the option?"

Because the point of the boxed trilogy is to give the other two games the control scheme out of Corruption. Duh.

Otherwise, you'd be paying $50 to put the OLD control scheme on Prime 3.

"How can the next Zelda game dethrone Ocarina of Time?"

It can't. End of story.

OoT put Zelda in 3D for the first time, and that experience will not be duplicated (just like GTA3; yes, IV was fun, but it was not and could not be the revolution that III was...you can only make the 3D leap once).

Yeah...which makes the author's assumption of "well it won't sell without local splitscreen" laughable. They even mention W@W's sales, but for some reason they think people won't buy COD4 because W@W and Conduit are out? Huh? That makes zero sense. The point is that MW is a good game, with a nice single player (though just as short as Conduit's) and great online. It's not like MW didn't sell on the HD consoles without competition.

Which leaves this gem:

GI is just too easy a target, I guess. ; )

Now if you want to read some real Wii bashing, check this out:
http://xbox360.ign.com/arti...

That's a roundtable with editors from each console division, and I've gotta say...IGN is usually fairly immune to fanboyism, but it positively reeks in that article.

Mahr -- They're absolutely right about the final fight with Dark Samus. I don't want to be able to beat the final boss on the first try, y'know? That said, there will be more than enough difficulty in the trilogy by including Echoes alone.

Product -- I agree with you. I don't think either summation of the respective companies is terribly accurate.

Winter47th -- Well, Sony DID jump into "casual" gaming with a little thing called the "Eye Toy," after all.
