"The single player campaign will last about 6-8 hours. Not really that long, but sufficient for a Wii game."
============================= =======

Huh? 6-8 hours is par for the course for any modern online-centric FPS now. And most of 'em don't give you the choice of stealth, either.

I'm playing through it now. The singleplayer is fantastic. I'd go as far as to say that for shooters with an online focus, this is the best ...

Not sure how you got so many disagrees...

Other M was great. If you loved 2D Metroid, this was the game you were waiting for since 1994, IMO. The most vocal critics didn't seem to really review the gameplaly; they reviewed the cut scenes.

Metroid just has never been a huge seller. And this game is a very curious beast. I think it's probably the most ambitious experiment in game design this gen. Name another third-person action game that goes from "normal" behind-the-back 3D, to sidescrolling, to arena-style battles with melee, a FPS perspective, and lighter Prime-ish scanning. And that's in like one minute and thirty seconds of gameplay. It's constantly shifting.

Super Metroid was ne...

The opening level looks really rough on Wii...but it gets better from there on out. Nice job, Treyarch.

"Simply put, there wasn't a single moment where I felt like the game was trying to do something new, mechanically or narratively. In spite of the aliens and the laser weapons, I couldn't help but watch, unentertained, as enemies continued to spawn out of the conduits. I don't doubt that these are solidly-constructed set pieces -- but it all lacked a certain je ne sais quoi that make other shoot-at-aliens FPS games look and feel more compelling."

Nice. IGN's review made some sense in that it docked the Wii version because of some missing content, but this review actually mentions "oh yeah, look at all of the stuff Black Ops does that no other Wii shooter has even come close to doing: streamlined friend codes, voice chat, online zombie co-op, plus contracts and wagers."

Still can't decide between this and GoldenEye...

Yeah...not to be too harsh (he seems like a good dude), but Bozon's Reflex review was a joke. He complained about MWR's cursor having problems...then you watch the video review, and see that he has the sensitivity turned the WHOLE WAY UP. Of course it felt jittery. He treated the control customization as if it were exactly like Conduit's, but it wasn't. COD's sensitivity settings seem to have a higher ceiling than HVS's (for better or worse; I'm not sure which ...

This review is kinda weird. The author, Nate Ahearn, also wrote the 360 review, and just added in some Wii-specific points.
http://xbox360.ign.com/arti...
(I think there's a few errors, too: isn't the player limit 10 on Wii, not 12? With no clan tags on the weapons?)

Fair points on the missing Easter eggs and zombie maps. But no mention of voice chat or the streamlined...

The comments I've read on Wii's Black Ops is that the first level is a quasi-graphical train wreck, but it gets better from there on out. Check this out, and skip to the 3:40 mark:

I'm honestly pretty impressed. Which isn't saying much, as I'm easily impressed and distracted by shiny objects, ...

Yep. Hell, I think Treyarch showed how lazy most third-party Wii devs are when they got COD4 up and running on Wii.

Now they've got another big FPS, PLUS online co-op and voice chat. From the vids I've seen, it doesn't look as nice as GE, but holy eff is there a lot of content.

I'm torn between COD:BO and GE.

Darn, too late to edit my last message.

But here's the difference, via a forumite at IGN:
http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Treyarch has done an admirable job, especially with the online maps, but the differences are pronounced. But it's freakin' amazing that the game is even running on Wii looking anywhere as close to as good as it does, WITH online co-op and voice ch...

I'm not sure if I'd go that far...but this is definitely impressive. Overall, the vids I've seen of GE still look cleaner with sharper textures, but Black Ops has more going onscreen at once, has more maps, and some of those maps are frickin' gargantuan. And it's steady.

Big ups, Treyarch. Big, big ups.

Us Wii owners have wanted top-shelf FPS for a long time. Now we get two of them released one week apart.

Right on cue, first direct-feed vid.

(If that's the first level, the guy at GAF said it only gets better from there on out.)

Eurocom, under the radar, has become one of the best (if not THE best) third-party Wii devlopers. They were given a turd sandwich in the form of Extraction ("here, make another light gun game"), and managed to make one of the best games in the genre this gen.

And now they've made a darn good FPS.

If Nintendo is made of money right now, I kinda wonder if they'd seriously think of buying the studio. They put out quality.

Yep. But it looks like this is for UK sales. I wonder what it has done here in the states?

I have no idea how you got disagrees on this. As you said, preference is one thing. Performance is another. Dual analog has been gimped from day one for FPS. It's not even disputable. "Auto aim," "sticky aiming," "bullet curving," "bullet magnetism," "snap aiming" and whatever other euphemisms we're using this week are the under-the-hood tinkering that's NECESSARY to make DA playable on a console.

It's a flashback to Reflex. Activision gave out NOTHING on it pre-release. And truth be told, COD:MWR didn't look THAT bad on Wii. It looked like what it is/was: a 360/PS3 game ported down and jammed into a system that wasn't supposed to even be able to play it.

Some of the vids on GAF show some nice explosions/smoke and the newer style of blood splatter, but otherwise, it's pretty much like MWR. Which ain't bad for what it is. Haters gonna hate...and...

First Extraction, then GoldenEye. Has Eurocom gone under everyones' noses and become the best third-party developer on Wii?

This is a detail I don't think I've read in any other review...and it's one that really makes me want to buy it. Super-strategic matches are fun, but once in awhile, you just want a fire fight. ...
