Not a very long slip. Either Sega thinks it'll launch stronger in March, or HVS found something in their debug.

That's a darn good list. I don't think anyone can find fault with that top three (although HR at 4 is a stretch, IMO).

Big ups on the Metroid love. No, the cinematics and plot delivery won't please everyone. But the actual GAME? The gameplay template? There is absolutely nothing else like it.

Wow. I'm usually not one for JRPGs...but between this and Xenoblade, I'll have to make exceptions.

...assuming these come stateside, of course. They better give us release dates at the January conference.

This quote from the article says it all:

"Pritchard went on to concede that Sega's flurry of hardcore Wii releases was a 'huge risk' for the company."

Really? I mean...c'mon. HVS already had a game engine and art assets for Conduit; they were just finishing it up by the time Sega agreed to publish it. It's not like Sega funded that game's development. They bought some commerical spots on Spike and Comedy Central.

Two great games that are great for different reasons.

GE has the better singleplayer campaign (I'd honestly say it's the best singleplayer mode of any online/multiplayer-centric FPS released this gen). The online is fun, but a bit unbalanced (silenced sniper rifles have RUINED playing Outpost), and slightly shallow (ranking up just takes too long; there's no reason to put 15 hours into the game and STILL not have all the online modes unlocked). The graphics are ...

Good review. Pretty much agree with the score, too. COD:BO is positively stuffed with content (outside of MH:Tri, there aren't many Wii games that'll give you this much of a time sink). Its visuals hold it back from the other versions, but it's still hella fun.

Even better though is the utterly bonkers mix of first- and third-person action alongside traditional side-scrolling exploration. It shouldn't work but it somehow does, making for an experience that feels at once familiar and utterly, refreshingly unique."

Yeah...certainly not like there's a bunch of 14 year olds talking smack and being repulsively homophobic on Live, too...

"Has Activision suddenly sunk so low, they only care about money?"
============================= ==============

They're a business. Of course they only care about money. They're going to do whatever they can to stay out of the red. And as long as people keep buying COD, they'll keep putting them out like this.

Will it saturate the market? I would've thought it already had with the deluge of shooters this gen, but lo and b...

Needs about 100% more gameplay. ;)

Has some Velveeta, but I still want to see more. C'mon, HVS. Deliver.

"This lower 200,000-range figure is an absolute no-no for Wii at this time of year."
------------------------

Not really. The system's halcyon days of outselling everything are over. It caught lightning in a bottle, and the sales will never be the same. It'll pick up during the holidays, most likely die back down, go up with a price drop, etc. Y'know, the typical cycle of a console nearing the end of its run.

Just bought it. Couldn't get online at first, then added a space before my profile name and got in. Had a few issues getting into matches, but it didn't take too long.

But MWR never had these problems. Hopefully Treyarch gets this patch out soon...

I'd honestly list COD4/Reflex over Conduit, just because of the online bugs. I give HVS credit for pioneering a fully-customizable Wii control scheme (that everyone has copied since), but the spawning glitch and hackers ruined that game. I think they'll do right with Conduit 2, though. It looks like they've learned a lot.

Can't argue with the rest of the list. It boggles my mind how the Prime Trilogy isn't considered up there with Orange Box.

Well, for Wii FPS. They'll still give high marks to Mario or apparently DKC:R, too. But dedicated, online-centric or aiming-intensive shooters? They just can't aim the Wii remote. They can't figure out how to make their jitters go away*.

*Hint: don't hold out your arm and point, GI. Put the controller where you normally do, an arm rest or you lap. Aim from there by pivoting from the wrist. Problem solved. The rest of us figured this out long ago.

"The first thing that struck me about the game was the controls. Using the Wiimote and Nunchuck felt really clunky and I immediately felt the game was a run of the mill Wii FPS. I opted to use the classic controller instead and the game immediately felt better."

The presets in GE for the remote/nunchuck aren't that good, IMO. You really have to tweak them to get the most out of the pointer controls. But...

This is the best review I've read on this game. And no, it's not because of the score. It's because they hit everything.

The good: how all control types work well, the stealth vs. action sections, the extras in the higher single player difficulties, and the faster/frantic/arcade-y online.
The bad: the Wii remote IS more precise but it takes a LOT of tweaking to find your Goldilocks setting, and the frame drops (online and off).

Well done...

Black Ops seems to be a little smoother with a bit more detail. The colors are also bolder, but I think that has more to do with the locations; COD4/Reflex takes place in some run down areas, whereas you get jungles and the 50/60's inspired Nuketown in Black Ops.

Good stuff. Thanks for posting. Reflex actually holds up alright for a "it's not supposed to be running on Wii" port done in 6-9 months.

Good list of games. I can't think of any way to argue with the top 3 at all (although I would've put Other M much higher).

But c'mon...Rock Band at #14? You're leaving off both No More Heroes games for Rock Band, IGN? Pfft.

5544d ago 2 agree0 disagreeView comment

Yep, I couldn't resist. I traded in 3 games and got GE. Most reviewers probably played the single player on the lowest difficulty...and even that is no pushover, tbh.

The stealth aspect is the best part of the game. It's what stops things from feeling like "Call of GoldenEye."

One of the guys I regularly talk to at IGN said he thought the online was usually chugging around 24 fps. That's not bad; it's certainly playable. But I t...
