As good and Dishonored and Prey are, I doubt we will see anymore of them. They didn’t make any money. That’s why Arcane is working on Deathloop.
Also, I notice that no one wants to put the Rage series on this list. I guess we are okay with forgetting that one.
Exactly. I think it’s a good purchase, but it would be really stupid to buy a series x console just because you think this partnership will yield good results.
Wait for Microsoft to deliver an awesome game and then reward them by purchasing their console. If we all did this kind of thing more often, games would be better.
Yeah, soon Microsoft will be bathing in all those Fallout 76 and Elder Scrolls Blades dollars.
I see your point, but gaming is already in a sad state. If we lived in a perfect world console wars wouldn't even be necessary. However, the market for triple AAA gaming has gotten so bad that the only hope we seem to have for viable competition comes from the console manufacturers rather than the big third party publishers.
Think about it, Activision and EA crank out the same game year after year and it just gets worse and worse. Ubisoft reskins FarCry over and over a...
It would be really cool if Sony responded by purchasing Square Enix. Both companies could go back to their roots and focus making quality games without all the stupid monetization. Here's hoping MS does the right thing and lets Howard and his team work with out constraint.
Unlike the Obsidian acquisition, I see this as a good thing for Todd Howard’s team. Zenimax was really scummy and I suspect it put a lot of pressure on BGS to monetize everything in recent years.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m still very much a Sony fan boy at this point. I will want to see proof that Microsoft actually wants to make high quality single player RPGs before I proclaim it a new era of console gaming.
However, I do feel like this decision more tha...
People are assuming a lot just based on this one trailer.
Even if the goal is to avoid steampunk and favor a high fantasy setting, I’m sure it will still have airships and other little retro futuristic nods.
Sorry you are getting downvoted. I would love to see them pull off a hit, but modern Square Enix is really shady.
They obviously can do well (VII remake and XV), but they are also equally capable of disappointing.
I just don’t trust their decisions as a publisher. FFXV never had a chance after they cut the story up into anime spinoffs and dlc. Why would they do anything different this time? People bought XV in record numbers anyway.
So, I guess we just wait for Geoff Keleigh to tell us when that's going to happen?
I don’t think Microsoft has to worry too much. Scalpers are usually business savvy individuals. They know not to waste their time and money on something isn’t going to get close to selling out.
I have to go 2019 simply because Control was miles better than anything I've played this summer. LOU2 was fine but not as good as everyone made it out to be. Ghost was just a little too much like the standard cookie cutter open world game, despite being gorgeous. Both summers were better than I expected though, to be quite honest.
Obviously, Microsoft will give away digital copies of all those original XBOX titles for free if you can prove you have a copy of the disc.
I’m sure if you don’t have a Game Pass account they will be more than happy to do that for you.
It could sell 200 million if the next generation lasts longer. Tech improvements are slower than they were a few years ago and more importantly we are running into a wall with development. You can’t expect games to get much bigger than they are now because doing so would cost too much money and take too much time.
Let’s say we don’t the PS6 and the XBOX Series X One (or whatever confusing nonsense they come up with) for another 10 years. That’s a long time for Sony to run c...
That’s what I would be afraid of. Just another Destiny clone like everything else. Square Enix is basically just Japanese EA at this point. They cut major story beats out of XV and sold them as DLC. They are chopping VII into tiny pieces to sell until the end of time. I can’t see this being any different.
Maybe this DMC combat designer can teach the guys at Square that people like to press the button instead of just holding it down and watching the game play itself.
I suspect that we will see titles that have next gen only design features relatively soon. It's just harder to show those features because we aren't necessarily talking about a better looking game. A next-gen title by Sony will simply be able to put more assets on the screen faster. Imagine a Skyrim-like sandbox but with Last of Us quality graphics and (if we are lucky) truly destructible environments.
I think Ratchet and Clank has done the best job of showing off w...
Hair didn't do that before the invention aerosol hair spray. Also, human beings couldn't summon elemental monsters to do their bidding. It's not realistic or medieval. It's a Tolkien-esque fantasy probably meant to capitalize on the popularity of the darker themes of The Witcher and Game of Thrones that have been popular lately.
Final Fantasy used to do this all the time, so this is not all that new for them. They just haven't done anything without an ...
"Engagement equals Currency." Translation: "Please buy our garbage console and subscription so that you can spend as much money on micro transactions as possible."
I really hate the fact that these guys bought both Obsidian and InXile. Prepare for a lot disappointing Destiny Clones like Anthem this gen.
Boy of War
It gives the fanboys something to get excited about. This isn’t a win as much as a desperate effort to be competitive.
The timing was excellent since many gamers are going to instinctively preorder Microsoft now just because they don’t want to miss out on the next Skyrim. But spending 7.5 billion dollars on a market stunt hardly signals “we’re winning” to me.
I will happily buy an Xbox to go along with my PlayStation if they manage to fix Bethesda, but c...
